Seriously? I've never heard anyone complain about the D-Pad.
Wow, you must be avoiding talking to people about the 360 controller.
Actually, the only time I ever talked to anyone about any controller was when a buddy of mine who's somewhat of a PS3 fetishist was over at my place and complained about the whole controller being unhandy.

I just generally don't talk about controllers much I guess?

[massive text about me not spending time on the internet or something]
I'm just as much on the internet as anyone else I suppose, but up to this point I've never seen a thread, or even a post about anything even remotely related to the 360's D-Pad on any forum anywhere. Maybe I'm just blind.

Actually, that being said: "It's easily the number one complaint about the 360 controller" really doesn't hold much weight to me either, because when I think about it, I've never seen anyone (besides my aforementioned friend or the generic PS3 fanboy) complain about the 360 controller.

...come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a controller being subject of a thread at all.

EDIT: Basically all I'm saying is, apparently I lived under a rock and I apologise for not being aware of this obviously immense problem.

So that swivel on the d pad, what happens to it during intense use, does it move or go up or down?

Total fail. (& Major Nelson fails at showing off the new design. Where'd he learn to use a webcam anyway?)

MS finally acknowledges there's a problem with the d-pad, but instead of discontinuing the faulty controller, it only makes a special, separately sold controller while CONTINUING to make the bad controller & packing it in with the 360! Not only that, but they force the sale of another Play 'N Charge Kit with the new controller. If gamers want to replace a crumby controller with the new one, why do they need another battery & charger???

My d-pad is so bad that even navigating the friggin' menu can be annoying! I'll push it down, feel it hit bottom, but it doesn't always respond. Sometimes it has to hit bottom, & then I need to give it an extra hard push for it to register. Kudos to MS for at least trying to fix it, but they sure are doing everything wrong. Just make it work. We don't need a fancy transforming d-pad. We need a functional d-pad.

I hope they introduce a console to match that sweet silver (that's not branded with a game's logo).

Wow, looks awesome. Just makes the Xbox360's Controller even more supreme. Although I don't know why Dev's would place the Direction (is it? I haven't played Fighting Games) for that place. Direction is usually the Analog Stick.

A few things to say.

1. Yay. Street Fighter IV will be even more fun.
2. Boo. I just bought a wireless controller + charger.
3. ... The D-pad is still in the wrong spot.

I don't understand why they would add the extra complication of a twist to raise d-pad. Everyone agrees that the existing recessed dpad is a problem. Why not just save yourself the expense of a mechanism and make a raised dpad instead of some twist to use nonsense.

Anyway I'm sure fighting game fans everywhere will be dropping their custom joysticks in favor of this control pad.

I wasn't aware the D-Pad had any shoulder buttons on it.
My bad, I misread "copy the D-Pad" as "copy their controller"

But I like the diagonals between the cardinal directions in some games anyway, so I still vote no. I also like the proposed ability to switch the d-pad between the two modes.
