Tactical shooter, huh? So all hope is lost that next Resident Evil will be a survival horror game. Resident Evil made it's name as a survival horror game. That's why people liked it. I guess it's all about the money today. More people play shooters so let's make it a shooter. Well fuck you very much Capcom.
They're coming out with like thirty games at once and you honestly believe they aren't going to market one to the "herp durr the old way was better!" audience? Believing that you'll never see another survival horror RE game is naive.

But, they will probably get rid of the horrible camera and controls, so if that's what you actually liked about the game, then sorry.

It's like Capcom forgot about Outbreak when a feasible option for online multiplayer came out, and decided to make a co-op zombie TPS instead.

Also, where the fuck has Carlos been since RE 3, anyways? Not to mention Billy, who also seemed to disappear after 0. And Claire, Rebecca, and Barry. Not including Mercenaries. And give Tofu some love too, Capcom, he was better than Chris as a roid monkey. And Darkside Chronicles doesn't count, that took spanned most of the games anyways.

This looks like it's going to be an interesting take on the 'zombie survival' genre of games. Although, I really hope that there's a good story to go along with what looks to be awesome gameplay. I didn't think RE5 was all that good so I have my doubts here, but i'm willing to give it a chance.

Is anybody else getting a Left 4 Dead vibe?

Not that I'm complaining: Left 4 Dead has taken over as the de facto zombie shooter after the lukewarm mess that was RE5. Co-Op or at least Tac-shooter is the new trend, and Capcom's wise to adapt. Who else wanted to see a Raccoon City map in L4D?

Capcom had the right idea with the Co-Op focus and Gears of War 3rd person style action but failed in their execution of integrating the co-op into the campaign. This should be a multilayer focused game, a la RE4 The Mercenaries mode where you rack up crazy amounts of points.

ARGH, RAGE.
STOP RUINING IT YOU ASSHOLES

Seriously, ever since RE4 i've been waiting for a return to SURVIVAL HORROR, anyone here remember that term? It's this really, really old and almost forgotten concept where you have to save ammo and health and explore your environment while trying to stay alive against increasingly difficult odds.
I know it sounds really crazy and stupid and outdated, i mean, who could ever imagine guns ever running out of bullets?
Resident Evil is of course about muscled, immortal action heros with unlimited ammunition who plow through waves of wacky monsters while spouting clever quips.
Resident Evil 4 and 5 were brilliant, they even got rid of the whole "Zombies" thing that had been holding the series back!
Now excuse me while i go play this ancient game called Resident Evil 2, it's pretty dumb, you have this overhead view which is really outdated and the zombies don't even run!

This had better be co-op via split screen or same screen. I have friends that actually come to my house, ya' know. And none of them own current gen consoles.

I'm not sure I see your point here. I'll say it again, were the older game really scary enough to be considered horror? Was there that big an emphasis on ammo conservation? I played it on the hard difficulties, and I never remember having any trouble. You're right, the zombies didn't run. That kinda ruined it. You didn't have to fight them, you could just stroll casually around them. Hell, the opening of RE4, in the town square, is a MILLION times more intense than all of the games before that put together. That game actually put me on edge. I actually feared for Leon at some points. That never happened in the others. I think that's one of the benefits of the over-the-shoulder angle. It's much more personal.

I guess this is a rant to say that people need to stop holding the original RE's up as being good survival horror games. They were mediocre at best. Silent Hill is infinitely better, up to the third installment, at least.

Soo... Left 4 Resident Evil?

This could be fun, but hey, I have always been one for mindlessy killing zombies.
I can't wait for Resident Evil: Revelations though, but this might be good too. Hoping for a PC port, but Capcom has a history of screwing up PC ports...

NOPE

Did you ever play RE, RE2, RE3, Code Veronica, Outbreak etc?
It's not about running and screaming monsters, the fear you feel in the older games is an IMPENDING fear, it's like modern horror films and 80s horror, shit jumping out at you isn't scary, it's shocking. What is scary is being lost and alone with unmentionable horrors creeping in the shadows.
Having a guy run at me with an axe shouting is not scary, being backed up against a wall with 20 zombies ambling towards me, arms outstretched, as i realise i just used my last bullet is VERY scary.
What are you talking about? The older games were VERY hard, and ammo was very difficult to find on many occasions, you had to be strategic in what guns you used on what enemies and what injuries needed to be treated.
Do i use the 5 magnum rounds on this Licker blocking the hall or do i try to run past him?
Do i use my last green herb on this wound or do i wait and try and combine it?
Should i carry the weapon that does more damage, or the weapon with more ammo?

There is none of that in the TPS RE games, ammo is everywhere, you can freikin' BUY ammo, you get weapons more fitting to Bad Company than Resident Evil, it's an action, not survival horror.

...you know what?

If they made an FPS game with RE's limited ammo, a basic inventory system (for ammo, weapons, and restoratives), and set the whole thing in the moodier, more atmospheric, somewhat slower paced game style the first few RE games had, I'd probably buy it. It sounds like Dead Space without the tension-stripping violins every time a monster pops up nearby.

That, and watching a corpse slowly bleed out until you're absolutely SURE that it's dead with modern gen graphics sounds like it could be a really tense experience.

BAAAAAAW THEY ARE CHANGING THINGS. BAAAAaaaaaaAAAAAAWWWW.

Sorry to be a dick but I'm seeing a lot of that in this thread. The only remotely scary resident evil game has been RE4. That game was scary through the whole thing and had an intense atmosphere. The ones before it had their moments and 5 was . . . not AS horrible as everyone makes it out to be. I mean it wasn't ever really that scary but it wasn't too horrible to play through the first couple times.

Back to the point, I think sometimes we have to give games a little goddamn room to evolve. I mean, how do you get "ITS N0T EVN GONNA B SCAREY! TEHY R RUENING TEH SERES! BOYCOTIN RESIDENT EVUL 4EVAR!" when barely any details have been released?

Wow, what persuasive skills you have! You have swayed me with your well versed argument, Sir!
But seriously, go back to 4chan if you're going to behave like that.
