I wasn't being immature, I was just using ridiculous amounts of snarkiness with a slight hint of dickery. That's how I decided to point out my disagreements with your case. It didn't work.

What I meant to say is RE4 was just as scary, if not more scary, as the older games. RE5 managed to be tense for a good chuck. On the first playthrough. From my experience, the things you pointed out NOT being in the newer games WERE in them. (Except for zombies rabble rabble changing things) This argument probably boils down to "Do you think fast or slow things are scary?" for the most part. You are in Camp Romero. I'm in Camp Both.

Hmm really not sure if I like this idea of this. Not gonna judge it just yet though I guess.
I think people will still complain they're trying to move it away from what originally made the series great, like when people moaned about how linear FFXIII was too ^^

You can play as a ruthless UBCS member? Cool!!!

From the makers of SOCOM you say?

"Alpha Team: breach bang and clear!"

(Zombified Alpha team devours squad leader)

Am I seriously the first person to make any reference to Starcraft in this thread?

You guys have missed out on such a good UMS map.

Huh. Interesting. I'm probably more interested in the HD remakes then a multiplayer spin off though.

Cue all the angry people regarding the run and gun stuff though. Despite the fact that old school Resident Evils are nigh unplayable for this era. Know why they were called "survival horrors"? Cause it was damn near impossible to survive with such a terrible control scheme. The games wouldn't have been nearly as hard or scary if you weren't trying to stop your character running into walls or wasting bullets with the lack of aiming (other then "aim upish").

There are a number of ways they could definitely make a new RE game with an old school feel. Relying on terrible controls just can't be one of them nowadays.

Two words: hell yeah! I love Raccoon City because it's a city-wide infestation, so there's hundreds of stories that can be told, from survivors to well, not-survivors. I can't wait to see them mine some gems. And if they're not gems, then at least we get some more BOW blasting... and blasting as BOWs.

The game is going to be set during the events of Resident Evil 2
This is what I hate about Capcom; with the exception of the Breath Of Fire series they're terrified of progressing the stories of their major franchises. There's been so much 'fleshing out' and 'expanding' of what they've got established you'd think the devs were best buddies of Games Workshop.

Street Fighter: Story hasn't progressed since Third Strike released in what, 1998? Street Fighter 4 is a damn prequel, and yet in spite of this they make the 'main' characters stronger than the others. They even admitted to toning down Sean, Elena, and Alex for the sake of Ken, Chun-Li and Ryu, who were included because of popular demand.

Megaman: The series split after Megaman X 4 (or was it 5?) into the canonical Megaman Zero games and the non-canon X5(?), 6, 7, and finally 8 because they just couldn't stand making Zero the new protagonist and abandoning X as a playable character ,regardless of how important a role X still played... and then they made X only playable for the second half of Megaman X 7. It'd be like making two sets of Star Wars movies, one with Obi-Wan as the protagonist for every single one, and one with a new protagonist halfway through.

Resident Evil: Fuck. Racoon. City. Not even concluding Sherry Birkin's story (for better or worse) and making Akuma a playable character will make me want to play another Res game in Racoon Fucking City, and Akuma's both my Avatar, and childhood hero.

...you know what?

If they made an FPS game with RE's limited ammo, a basic inventory system (for ammo, weapons, and restoratives), and set the whole thing in the moodier, more atmospheric, somewhat slower paced game style the first few RE games had, I'd probably buy it. It sounds like Dead Space without the tension-stripping violins every time a monster pops up nearby.

That, and watching a corpse slowly bleed out until you're absolutely SURE that it's dead with modern gen graphics sounds like it could be a really tense experience.
This.

I was actually thinking something along those lines last night actually.
More a Resident Evil: Outbreak cross L4D, With the heavier emphasis on RE:O.

This seems to be a remake of Outbreak with more friendly controls.

I like the sound of this.

I loved the setting and the plot of the first Resident Evils but hated the control scheme. It's more than possible to make a GREAT survival horror game using the 4/5 layout, all they need to do is focus on the atmosphere instead of trying to make it into an action movie (sadly part of Capcom's focus to make more games "appeal to western audiences", in brackets because it doesn't do that at all). I for one was scared shitless during some scenes in Resi 4, specifically the ones within the castle or with those regenerators. So there's proof the game CAN be scary and hdcurrentgenblahdeblah.

Raccoon City? I'm sorry but Resident Evil or not that is just a terrible name for a horror game. Sounds like the next Animal Crossing!

I have mixed feelings.

Im sure it would be fun to play, with your buddies on a sofa, nice.
The argument that "this isnt a resident evil game" is invalid, mainly after resident evil 4 and 5.

But its developed by a mediocre developer, i bet it will be worse than resident evil 5, and thats really an achievement if you think about it.

sounds like an MMO setup

might as well go all run'n gun at this point. No one in this generation even considers Resident Evil a horror game any more XD

Sounds interesting. Maybe this will mean Raccoon City wil be a bit more open world? Bio weapon's either Nemesis or a Tyrant, only two that would make sense unless they invent something entirely unique.

Good or bad, as long as it has split-screen co op I'm getting it. Split screen games are few and far between these days.
