They did have one game where you're not out to save the entire universe from impending doom. It was called Dragon Age 2, and everyone was just so grateful for the change of pace there weren't they?
Actually, they did have that in the third act. The lack of a world threatening evil wasn't the issue. It was the lack of direction and sloppy story telling. Simply having a change of pace doesn't make a good story. You still have to present it well; DA2 didn't. Which is a shame really, because it likely will make them think people don't want that kind of story. They do; they just want it to be well told.

Oh, and to everyone complaining about the co-op:

Remember, BALDUR'S GATE HAD CO-OP!

I thought this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZhTbhUpixY] kind of meant we would get a sequel for certain.

It's pretty sad that they made such a potentially interesting world in DA:O and then reduced it to petty, cliché conflicts like mages vs normals and now demons vs the world. Especially since we already had our horde of mooks.

Didn't they hint that another archdemon had been found at the end of Awakening? What about that? And why would anyone be looking for the Warden/Hawke when clearly this is not a situation best suited for either? And you can bet we won't have answers for it.

I miss games that made sense.

The concept of sending out spys to gather information sounds way to complex for a EA age bioware game.

Just like the Mass effect 3 amassing of forces to fight the reapers sounded awesome on paper but came down to gathering "points" that in the end felt as if they didnt really had any impact on the outcome of the game whatsofreaking ever. Nor did the origin of the points really mattered that much aslong as you had "points"

Soyeah.. if this survey talks truth then we can all look ahead to "sending spies" out to spy for us.. wich in the end will just mean getting points on a point metre that you need to abritrarily fill before you can trigger the end battle.

There will be absolutely no depth to that system.. it will not give you any advantages in the plot and is just another hurdle you have to take before triggering the ending.

That atleast is my prediction based on biowares sloppy work lately.

Badly written Pedo dreams passed off as PTSD.
What the merry hell are you talking about?
Uhm you know.

Where Shepard is chasing a little kid around, in slow motion, to stupid music.
Come on did no one else catch all the pedo undertones?

Inquisition eh?

My only question is Ordo Xenos, Malleus or Hereticus.

OT: I'm actually rather excited although this seems quite different from the previous two games although, 10 companions and five men parties sounds enticing.

By "crucial decisions" do they mean that if I choose option A over option B I will get two different lines of dialogue followed by everybody ignoring the decision for the remainder of the game?

Eh, after Dragon Age 2 (which I did like, but it was obviously rushed and very unpolished for it) and Mass Effect 3 (which I found to be disappointing in more ways than just the ending, easily making it the weakest installment in the trilogy, and like DA2, it too had signs of being rushed) I'm wary of DA3's fate.

If EA gives Bioware the time they need to finish the game, and don't rush them, I still believe that they're capable of making excellent games.
I'm not so sure I see that happening though. It'll take a lot to get me really hyped up to get DA3, regardless of how much I enjoyed the first two.

You know, journalism is supposed to be about bringing the news to the people. As in, factual news, not wild speculation that someone just happened to overhear while walking down the street. (Figuratively.) This article here at the Escapist is about as bad as the speculation over Fallout: Boston being covered on most gaming sites, even though that information is only coming from a single new user over Reddit. Please do your jobs, journalists, instead of resorting to magical tales of grandeur, just to make your job easier and not have to look for any real stories.

And then things get really bad.

"A portal between the worlds unleashes hordes of demons in the land, civil wars rip apart nations and the corruption is limitless. Someone is behind the shadows, drawing the threads which destroy the world. Time has come for the Inquisition,"
Already heard about this but just to make it official, I call Flemeth!
She's behind it all!

If DA3 is closer to DA:O than it is to DA2, it will be enough to make me very happy.

Bioware, if you are reading this, by the love of the maker, do it.

I have a dream.
I dream of a world, where "Bioware writing" and Dark Souls gameplay can be united as one, in one RPG to rule them all. With interesting characters, with challenging fights, with several approaches for every challenge.
But I fear, that it will never be more of a dream.
Let a man dream....

Why does co-op equal a horde mode? It could be that you know that a friend might control one of your party members in the story and ironically enough that for all those bitching that Bioware has moved away from traditional RPGs that this is actually returning to what RPGs were ( and still are for many people) played with a group of friends each playing a character albeit with dice.
That would indeed be a great action RPG, but not a great Dragon Age game. Not every game has to test player twitch reflexes. Dragon Age 1 was great because the player selected the team, built it, armed it and then told them broadly what actions to perform in combat. The player did NOT swing any swords in real time, or block any blows. The characters did that. which made DA:O a great breath of fresh air from the rest of the 99.99% action games out on the shelves.

I might have believed it until I got to the part where it said 10 complex companions. Unless BW is doing an about face on their stance towards less team members for more personal/deeper relationships they touted for ME3 I don't see it as being real.
I just learned Bioware still exists as a company after EA decided that half a billion dollars is a good investment on the Titanic 2 (SW:ToR), when James Cameron (MMO community) has also comissioned an accurate replica of the Iceberg.
