The Saints Row facebook page just posted some interesting info. Saints Row IV has just been announced, and even given a release date of August 20th 2013 in US, August 23 2013 everywhere else. Here's the "teaser trailer," which I sincerly hope was slapped together using SR3 and isn't footage of the new game.

Thoughts?

Looks almost identical to the one we have, and I see there will be no coming back from the persistent clown show.
It's too bad because that gets boring real fast.

It looks like a DLC for SRTT. I'm a huge fan but I have to say it fails to impress me so far.
Also, fighting aliens? Meaning no more gangs war?

Well, it was originally SR3 DLC. Not surprising.
*Sorry if this appears more than once, since it gave me an error the first time*

Okay the last one was at least fun and cartoony while still somewhat grounded in its setting and characters(at least they were human instead of talking cats)But this is just going pants on the head retarded.

Why even bother calling this Saints Row ? This doesn't even look like it has anything to do with what the series was. They would likely fair much better if they just called it something else.

SR3, even if it seems to have been more mixed when it comes to reception, still sold a ton. Dropping the brand just won't be beneficial.

If the description here is correct I think it is going to be awesome. I like that the games don't take themselves to seriously and this time we might get super powers which will be pretty cool.

Not too long ago, Volition announced that their DLC "Enter the Dominatrix" was going to be the foundation of the next game since it was too expansive to just be another DLC package... or whatever... so it makes sense that they used the same assets from the Third and went from there.

As for the content itself, I could go either way. I enjoyed the Third for the fact that it realized it was a game and pretty much just told the player "go have fun." Some will lament the fact that it's no longer just about taking over gangs (unless its now alien gangs and also, I would assume, politcal powers), and that it has gone too far off the original premise, so on. Fair enough, but at the same time, it's also interesting to see a series continuing to try to go to the next level of ludicrousness.

The Saints series is one of the few series that I can replay over and again. I'll be keeping tabs on this. Thanks for posting.

I dunno. I liked Saints Row 3. Much more than I would've thought. It ain't great art, it's just stupid fun. I can think of worse things than MOTS.

Saints row 2 was fun, Saints row 3 moved to being a parody of it's self, Will avoid like the plague

I really liked the second game in the series as well as The Third and I was hoping that Saints Row IV would aim to be a happy medium between the second and third games, featuring and expanding upon the elements that people enjoyed in those two titles. But instead, we're getting a glorified DLC project that's taking a swandive down the backside of wacky mountain into a bubbling pool of energy drink, space aliens and people in silly mascot costumes.

It hurts, because I really like this series and I don't think I'm going to be picking this game up on principle.

That actually sounds nicer than what I've heard of it.

I really dig this line here: "We are told that Saints Row 4 is not simply the Saints Row 3 "Enter the Dominatrix" standalone expansion in a different wrapper." Don't disappoint me, Volition!!

I disagree. Saints Row 2 wasn't just good because of being ridiculous, but it had smart writing, good missions, etc along with the ridiculous elements. Saints Row 3 is just...
Beating people with dildos and that's it.

More random gimmicky shit, just what Saints Row needs. I still haven't forgiven Volition for taking out Protect Tha Pimp and Blinged Out Ride from SR1, they were some fucking great gamemodes that I spent hundreds of hours on, just saving up my money to buy a pimp coat. SR2 implemented some awful clusterfuck of an online game mode in replacement and focused more on single player gimmicks, SR3 just fucked it off completely and went balls deep into retarded shit. LoL PRUPLE DLIDO SO FUNNEH XDDD:D:D SR3 GOTY. Only logical step at this point would be this, keep escalating this shit until no one buys it any more.

True, I liked SR2 much more as well. From SR3 I got the feeling like it tried too hard being all wacky and craaazy while offering less content (especially in customisation and side mission department) and less memorable characters (as in none at all) and SR4 will probably go down the same road. I still had a lot of fun with the third installment and will presumably do so with the forth as well but SR2 just offered a superior experience in nearly every way, at least for me.

This is very uninformative, unless it's a game about giant letters assaulting your screen. The game hides the fact that it started as an expansion for SR3 very poorly.

It doesn't look very good but it's too early to say.

I don't know. On one hand, I really liked the mixture of comedy and action that Saints Row 2 had (and better map design), while Saints Row 3 was... silly. As much as I'd like a return to form, it the game insists on drinking wacky juice out of a clown shoe, then they better go all out.

Only thing that blew my mind about the Saints Row saga was how much they used their success to totally fuck up.

Saints Row 2 was an amazing game, and the only thing holding it back from being the definite winner over GTA was that it was a smaller game.

Then Saints Row 3 totally missed the point and turned the game into a freak show of over-the-top stupidity without any of the greatness Saints Row 2 did. Saints Row 2 was effective because the over-the-top and serious moments both worked. Saints Row 3 totally omitted the serious moments and made all of the less serious moments more about in-your-face randomness than anything else, and it was possibly the most disappointment I've gotten out of a single game.

And this looks like it's following 3's footsteps. Yet another game that's already looking bad before it comes out.

And I hope from the bottom of my heart that "missing a letter" thing was not an attempt at humor. Even a cheap tactic to extend the trailer without needing to be creative is a better excuse.
