There's been a fair amount of speculation that she resigned because she's actually gearing up to run for president in 2012, here's to hoping that's nothing more than speculation.

It is a fairly stupid move is that is true given she could easily have seen out her term and then started gearing up. If this really is some sort of election ploy it seems as poorly thought out as McCain suspending his campaign to sort of the economy. However if she has decided she could make a lot more money as a commentator and realising book I would not be surprised or more it would make more sense. Otherwise she has just given a massive amount of ammunition to her opponents.
