I save regularly as it's usually my luck that the game will crash.
I've actually had to stop caring about the save count on Mass Effect because my xbox pisses about that often I save like every 10 minutes. I don't care if it makes me look like I suck, I'd rather be cautious than not want to pick a game up ever again because something shit happened and I hadn't saved prior to the event.

My F5 key is worn almost as thin as my WASD keys.

I learnt the power of saving from Baldur's Gate, Tomb Raider, Doom II and Half Life.

If you don't save often bad things can happen to your peripherals when you die.

I only save at the end of the day. This can sometimes end in tears if the game doesn't have an autosave function (which thankfully they all do).

ME1 was annoying in that the autosave was only at the start of the mission. I remember doing Benezia on Hardcore mode, walked in there, she blew my face off. When the autosave loaded up i was back at the garage at the spaceport. Cue launch of controller. Thankfully ME2 saves a hell of a lot more.

On my 4th ME1 playthrough atm and have saved 33 times.

I saved like crazy on the first Mass Effect to make sure I did everything right and leave no room for muck ups.
Given the whole suicide mission in Mass Effect 2, I can bet my arse I'm going to be saving like crazy back and forth until I get the ending where no one dies.
As for on average, well most RPG's I save frequently and in sandbox games like Saint's Row 2 and Prototype I save everytime I finish goofing off in the city.

I save frequently when everything is going right..
But when something goes wrong my previous save seems to be hours ago..
Shouldn't it be the other way around?

When I play on consoles, hardly ever, takes to long and I don't mine having to re walk a little bit, I rely on auto save a lot. On PC, I quick save every hour or so, just to be one the safe side.

I've more than once considered binding quick save to one of my mouse buttons, especially when playing a fast paced FPS on one of the harder difficulties.

I always, if I have the option, save before and after any challenging battles and (if it's a Bioware game) before walking through a locked door. There is always SOMETHING evil on the other side...

I'm saving fairly often in Mass Effect 2 at the moment, though the autosave is actually frequent enough to warrant a mention this time around.

I generally save when I think something bad is gonna happen (you can usually sense a boss battle when you're a kilometer away from it), whenever I think an important plot event is about to take place, after something bad happened and after an important plot event. Outside of such events, I just save every now and then to have a point to return to when something goes wrong and I didn't sense it in advance.

I really had to resist the urge to save in L4D2, that game gives you a constant feeling something bad is gonna happen, but even in single-player you cannot save considering it's essentially a co-op multiplayer game.

In ME2 and Dragon Age I saved before and after every single dialogue and battle.

In other games autosave does it for me.

Oblivion froze all the damn time before I got my 360 online and patched it.

I have like a 20,000+ save count in that.

Ever since playing Daggerfall, I have faithfully employed what my friends and I have dubbed the "Elder Scrolls Saving Method".

Which is immediately after coming to a new location, defeating an enemy, accessing the inventory, a dialog, or taking a few steps without saving.

i use the quick save button every couple seconds/minutes ... after fallout 3 and other glitchy and buggy titles i started quick saving after every minutes just so i wont lose too many minutes WHEN the game crashed the next time....

unfortunately this still exists in mass effect 2 pc version~.. the game crashes on me at 4 points in the game because for some reason the game cant render the "blue laser" effect when the character is too close to it and it crashes.

1)at the space station where the AI went Crazy the mirrors puzzle.
2)the collector drone thing that shoots that blue laser at you.
3)the 2nd drone at the trap on the collectors ship.
4)reaper derelict ship when you get to the room with the Core every time it activates it would crash the game but i found a little work around at that thing.

I try to save as least amount of times as possible. Especially when it comes to games like Silent Hill.

I only really save when I stop playing, barring autosaves. If I played RPG's I imagine I'd save more. Not as much as I'd tell myself to, but more.
