Let me just say I hate the Star Wars Prequels. But as much as I hate them (Ja Ja Binks. Really George?) I cannot take all the bitching any more. So try and say something you liked about them. No matter how small. Personaly I loved the music. In fact it was the only thing I liked. John Williams doing what he does best. The saber fights in the Prequels were all flash and no substance but his music made them at least tolerable (except for when Yoda pulled out his kiddiy sized lightsaber. Damn you George Lucas).

Anyway what did you like if anything?

Good music, cool lightsaber fights, some excellent visual design and FAR more variation in locals than the OT. Also the CGI was (and in some places, still is) excellent.

Plus, Liam Neeson and Ewan MacGregor as Jedi. Say what you will about the rest of the characters or casting, but those were some great choices.

The ships etc look pretty...

It also seemed like The Phantom Menace at least was made for kids, and as such had more physical comedy (which was bad).

If this thread was about the worst things from the prequels you'd already have pages and pages of replies.

Well the battles were awesome and the lighsabers fight were bloody awesome! (Seriously the Lightsabers battle in 4-6 are old men compared to 1-3).

I really liked episode 1 when I was younger, and it brought us star wars podracer.

The films had more Obi wan too, which is always a good thing. And this time he didn't decide to let himself die for absolutely no reason.

The fights in the originals had more to do with the characters and the story than the lightsabers themselves, where as the fights in 1-3 were all about showing off. I will take the saber fight in A New Hope over Revenge of the Sith any day.

But Darth Maul was cool. I will give you that.

The music is great, for the most part, and Darth Maul was really cool looking and memorable despite, as far as I know, having practically no lines in the movie and possibly not even being referred to by name in the film. Palpatine is also entertaining as hell to watch; his over the top hamminess is awesome.

Ewan McGregor was a great choice for a Jedi, and some of the visuals were really cool

Getting to see Yoda fighting in his prime. Bring the flame all you want, but Yoda was a legendary Jedi, and it was nice to see how he managed to earn such a reputation for himself.
I get why you liked the stuff that you listed and belive me when I say that while I disagree with most of it,this bit in perticuler I know how you feel about all the bitching about the movies hence the thred but I love Yoda to much not to say why I think you are wrong. Obviusly you are intitled to your opinion but the whole point of Yoda was that he was so wise and powerfull and had so much knoleage of the Force that he was beyond lightsabers. The same gos for the Emporer. He should have spent episode 2 and 3 just using crazy Force poweres that nobody else could even begin to understand until his fight with the Emporer where they both have a gient force power battle.

Mostly the CGI. In my opinion that's just what Star Wars needed.

And I like a lot of other things that I won't mention, because the list of things I do not like is so much shorter.

Darth Maul had the coolest character design in all of star wars. Also it was nice to see some variety in the fights with his bo-staff style lightsaber.

If you subtract Jar Jar, I thought that Episode One was fun. And the Darth Maul fight at the end was all kinds of epic.

Never did see Episode Three, but Episode Two sucked ass. But that's off topic.

I came to post pretty much this. Aside from of Luke's Theme, there isn't really any music in the 1st 3 films that I enjoy (don't even like the main theme much compared to John Williams other works) and the prequals music is a lot better.

The lightsaber battles were cool and the music was great. Plus they got James Earl Jones to voice Darth Vader.

Liam Neesom.

I repeat: Liam Neesom.

And in ep's 2 & 3 Euan McGregor as well when he loosened up a bit.

1) Good fight scenes,

2) Actually introduced a plot into (lets be honest) a redone "save the princess" fairytale (albeit one I love),

3) Better cinematics,

4) Characters with more depth (with some notable exceptions!) - Remember this is relative to the prequels not some abstracted perfection. (this is a switch people forget when moving from judging the first ones to the second ones - the first ones had nothing to compare with)

5) A much larger scale - moving beyond the main characters to a whole universe,

6) An impressive level of ambition even when it didn't pay off,

7) It maintained a feel of jedi-ness in the story which is attractive at a base level,

8) Lightsabres.

I think the main reason people prefer the older ones, is that they were younger when they came out (and lets remember the original intended audience is older kids), and the critical mass of haters. Also, as much as i dislike the JaJa binks character, it was obviously an attempt to replicate the ewoks for kids. No wonder 39 year old dudes find it doesn't speak to them!

The nerdrage it caused justifies my hate. That is all.

[small]Wow, I'm starting to sound like Darkseid when I discuss this stuff.[/small]

Pretty much everything, since I actually liked the prequels for some reason. Oh well.
