The Poison Headcrab Zombie from Half-Life 2. I HATE those things.

The very first time I ever fought a Big Daddy from Bioshock. The whole time I'm just like "Shit, he does a lot of damage. Dammit! My shotgun doesn't do anything to him. Ahh! I'm out of Med-Kits! Crap, crap, crap!"

Also from Bioshock, the Splicers that you think are dead people until you walk up to them to see what loot they have, and then BAM! Gotcha, *****! Always shot the dead bodies from then on, just in case they were actually fakers.

And those damned invisible insect monsters in the sewers during the castle part of Resident Evil 4. NEVER have enough shotgun ammo.

Redead from Zelda, Ocarina of Time.

It always looks like they're humping link rather than biting him, so I always feel violated. That, coupled with their paralyzing scream makes them the scariest pedophile zombies ever!

The blood suckers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R, I nearly started crying the first time one of those invisible bastards snuck up behind me.

regenerators were bloody evil, the first one i found (i had heard about them but thought i could pwn it) i blew its leg off and thought i was dead then it jumped up and got me and i didnt get the thermal scope the first time around so i killed all of them by spamming flame grenades and then ran and shot their legs.

And i didnt like the dogs ether, the first time i saw one in that rainy bit outside the church it walked in, i froze, it froze and then i ran for the narrow bit to fight it and it chewed my face off when i turned around.

The last boss in Shadow of the collossus, especially if you did what i did and ran straight at him from the word go, which leads to a face full of giant hand laser and plummeting off of a gigantic tower.

also anything that can wear a tower as a dress deserves the fear it generates.

Everything in Project Zero 2. EVERYTHING.

Also, the facehuggers in the original unpatched Aliens Versus Predator were truly terrifying. Since you had no quicksave in that game, if one of those fuckers got you then you were back to the start of the level, usually about half an hour back. Walking into a room when all the lights go out and all you can hear are three eggs opening... Now that's scary.

The Cacodemon from Doom.

Yes, it was basically a very angry beachball, but fuck did it make a scary noise when it spotted you.

Project Zero 1 is much scarier. Especially because combat in it is much more difficult (Enemies are tougher and do loads more damage).

Awhile back they made a PC FPS of the Wheel of Time series of fantasy books. One of the levels was this place called The Ways - it's like an extradimensional space with these stone walkways just suspended in a void between all these portals. It was dark, and you could only see a little ways around you. There's this monster that lives in there called Machin Shin, and it would come after you after a certain amount of time you spent in there. You could hear it before you saw it, this horrible windy moaning sound... then you'd turn around and see it, this big wall of ghostly, tormented faces as far across as you can see, coming toward you. And then you ran like hell for the exit.

Don't laugh at me for this one but Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII. I think what scared me the most was that she had 4 different forms and if one of your characters died they were "absorbed into time and space" (in other words you lost the character and all of their abilities) and the fact that you couldn't use your strongest attacks (your GF's), not to mention that when you got to the second form, he/she started to drain all of your magic away and inflict just about every kind of status abnormality possible. Keeping in mind, for those who have actually played the game, you need your magic for the junctioning system (sets your health, strength, ext.) what really worried me was in her final form she had an attack that took you down to 1 hp.

Really? I always thought that the environments in Project Zero 2 were far, far creepier than the original. Especially the house with all the dolls... *shudders*

Aw man, the mannequins in Condemned fo sho. I turned around and they were right behind me, and I was already pissing myself every 10 while I played this game so that didnt help. And Alma and the ghosts that keep appearing out at you in FEAR, I still havent finished that game. And the Shibuto in Siren. Now that is BY FAR the scarest game I have ever played. Even though it sucked. But I love the horror games and the adrenilene that shoots through you everytime that something jumps out at you.

Splicers in Bioshock. I'm not really a fan of horror games.

Oh yeah, and Whosits Benirus from Oblivion (Where the Spirits Have Lease). Friggin scary.
Most Locust from Gears of War.

Salazar's right hand from RE4. Fast and has LOTS of health, definatly the scariest boss in the game. I didn't care about getting the crown from him, I just wanted to GTFO.

Also, when I was younger, the Loch Ness-looking monster in Hazy Maze Cave from Super Mario 64 scared the shit out of me. I thought it would eat Mario alive at the time, gave me nightmares.

EDIT: Thanks and yes, the avatar is Bob Dylan, Blonde On Blonde, one of my favorite albums.

^^ love your avatar, Bob Dylan, right?

Alma and Fettel from F.E.A.R, and just the overall environment of F.E.A.R. It scared me so much, Even when I wasn't in a nightmare or firefight, even when I was just sitting there looking at a desk, I was still scared (or at least spooked). That's why I love F.E.A.R; even though the combat was boring except for the beginning or when you get the Type-7 Particle gun (deadly accurate beam that makes enemies bloody skeletons), the overall environment sucks you in until you don't care.

Headcrab zombies. Yeah, they still creep me out, guess it's the uncanny valley (the closer a machine gets to human-lifelike, the more empathetic we are toward it, until it's almost human, where we're revulsed, only to be empathetic again when it gets more human)
