No bloodstain should look like a man holding a knife. That place was creepy.

Also the Revert-filled tunnel in Singularity (You could argue that it is a horror game but I've never heard of it described as such). It was the message on the wall that made it worse: knowing that you have to move slowly through that place.
What Bloodstain?

I'm curious now!

OP: For me it was X-18 or the Bloodsucker village from S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl.
Look at the walls, there's at least one that looks like a silhouette of a man holding a knife.
Are we talking the level in single player or the second zombies map?
I'm talking about the asylum in the single player level. I think it's called Ring of Steel.

The second zombies map is still pretty creepy.
Cheers, I'll check that out later then.

Just look at the walls when you're in the asylum, I'm fairly sure there's more than one.

Since its popular to say Ravenholm in these threads, I'll be different and say The Pit from Half Life 2 Episode 2.

That place was scary. Descending while being taunted by a Poison Zombie, a Fast Zombie throws your grenade back at you, getting tricked into a room full of Zombines and the lights go out, and then dealing with a horde of em all coming out of the toxic waste.

Also, the MSV Esteanico from Mass Effect 2 was very nerve wracking for only being a shipwreck.

Half Life 2: EP2

While things like poison headcrabs and zombies never scared me, the part when i had to run away from Antlion Guardian was very intense.

I found Ravenholm scary. The first time through. When I was thirteen years old.

Thank god some people on this forum at least are cultured enough to mention the haunted hotel from Bloodlines. Actually, there were quite a few creepy places in that game, but the hotel is easily the most famous and well made.

Also, someone mentioned Duskwood from World of Warcraft, and honestly, I have to agree. Say what you want about that game, but it's actually really atmospheric at places. At least if other players are absent for the most part.

I was going to say Vault 106.

Guess no one played Demon's Souls. Tower of Latria was CREEPY... Mindflayers were great sounding creepy monsters, but those crab looking things with human heads are the weirdest looking enemies... Skeeves me the hell out...

Ok, your turn.
uhg the whole part where you get the shotgun for the first time, wasn't too bad wasting the first two on the roof, then, *clack* "whats that sound? Better yet whys that drain pipe moving?" *looks over edge* "OMG THEY ARE COMING UP THE PIPE!!" *desperately attempts to waste zombies running up the pipe and reload the weapon before the next batch are upon you*

Big Boo's Haunt, anyone?
By comparison, it is the scariest part of the game.
Oh god jesus christ the piano :(

Why did you have to remind me?

THE BOOKS THE EYEBALLS OH GOD PLEASE MAKE IT STOP

Mario 64 totally deserves an 18+ rating.

Every Thief game always had one if not more horror levels, though it was never really a horror series. Most recently there's The Shalebridge Cradle from Thief: Deadly Shadows a few years back, which was probably one of the best horror levels I've ever played in a game. Brilliant.

Just listening to the 'soundtrack' gives me the creeps.

For the love of fuck, this. The only game I've played with anything scarier than that section was a Silent Hill title. The guards in that place still give me the chills.

The second level in Resident evil 5 (OH SNAP)

Seriously though, I found a lot of Bioshock to be scary as all hell.
Me to actually when I think about it, Bioshock had quite a large "jump scare" factor to it. Also how the rapture was abandoned for so long and knowing people were living down there... has a scary vibe to it.

People have already mentioned Ravenholm and The Cradle, I'd probably lean towards the latter, the start of that level really creeped me out.
