Dead Rising.

It was just a fun zombie game, but it wasn't the kind of "AHHH!" scary like Dead Space was (which I really didn't find too scary), it was the worst kind of scary. The kind where you don't think it's scaring you, but then after 4 hours of playing it alone at night after you turn it off you're freaking out, but you don't even realize the effect it has on you, not until you turn it off after a long solitary night session. It's like one of those spicy foods where the spicy feeling lingers.

I could never go anywhere without a companion, there was always that feeling of being underpowered and everything was going to kill you.
And it was true.

Half life. I've always had a phobia of head crabs. Don't know why.
Would it be inappropriate for me to point out that they, honest to God, look like... Well, ladyparts.
At least my friend thought so, and insisted that headcrabs are some form of twisted mysogeny.
Was your friend not thinking of the Facehuggers from the Alien movies?

The onoly game that ever came close to scaring me was Eternal Darkness and that was pretty much because I avoided spoilers and didn't know about certain elements. (If you haven't played it, get a Gamecube and play it immediately. It will either make you forgive them for Too Human or say "What the fuck happened to them?")
I completely agree, Eternal Darkness was a really good one, man when your sanity goes out the window, **** man it gets crazy!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R

Sweet crap I have never feared for my life in a game before that. Then I played Call of Cthulhu, but that's meant to be scary.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is MEANT to be horror game...

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I swear, I still see Blizetta's face ingrained in my TV sometimes...

Honestly any of the Oddworld games. When I was little they just freaked me the hell out, just the whole feel od it made me want to turn it off. I dont think I got past the first level in it.

F.E.A.R.

I excpected it to at least be a little creepy, what given the title, but I wasn't prepared for some of the stuff that game threw at you in the last act. That game gets seriously physcologically scary at times.

Shame the sequel sucked.
*Oh I'll just walk around this corner*...

BLARGHDEADGORYBITCHSCREAMER

Oh good work F.E.A.R 2. You've scared me. *Returns game*

I don't know if Fear 1 was like this. Cheap scares = boring, psychological scares = win.

There are several answers I could give. I'll default, however, to the king of attempting exactly this. I'll just spoiler it because even the fact that it SHOULD be scary is a spoiler.

Starts with Evers. Eight letters.

Eversion. My god, that game gave me nightmares. Figuratively, anyway.

Lucky you never got to the temples then. They were hideous.

Actually, playing L4D2 with the mutator "The last man on earth" was quite scary. It quite suprised me, because the franchise was always more about the action for me. Then all of a sudden I jump at the infected calls.

Do I dare ask how they were hideous?

There were two, the Paramite temple and the Scrab temple. Each section was a mad run for your life to get through each section with those things chasing you. All the time a thumping "chase" music playing.

The Ocean House Hotel in Vampire: The Masquerade- Bloodlines scared the living daylights out of me when I first played it.
I was actually about to post that same thing. The lights in my room went out at the exact instant the ones in the game went out. I was playing on a laptop so it stayed on. I just sat there and stared until I got up the nerve to wait outside for the lights to come on. If anyone played that part you would understand why it weirded me out. Also everytime they zoomed in on the coffin tension would build up because I was waiting for something to bust through it.

The character models were pretty creepy as well.

Oh, yeah, that would of done it. Considering I was already freaked out by just everything else already.

Half Life 2 - we don't go to Ravenholm!!!!!
Why did Ravenholm not scare me? Seriously? I'm a jumpy bastard who sleeps with the light on half the time, and I barely found Ravenholm remotely upsetting.
