It's funny that even though he's trying to back away from his original comments, he still manages to compare Kotick to the biggest Villain of all time.

Wow, Schafer is really out of touch with the business aspect of the industry, isn't he? He really thinks that it matters what you say about other people? Look at Gabe and how he went from calling the PS3 a POS every chance he had to him being a centerpiece of Sony's E3 presentation. Even if Schafer kicked Kotick in the bollocks, Kotick would still publish his next game if he believed he could PROFIT from that. Mr. Schafer, you are a true artist, I grew up with your games, but you need to wake up.
I'm sorry, but I've just got to assume that Schafer knows a little bit more about how this industry works then some forum poster. Secondly, Gabe works for Valve, I'm pretty sure Sony has absolutely no problem letting bygones be bygones for freakin' Valve (I mean...it's freakin' Valve!). Schafer: critical darling but under achiever when it comes to sales is a slightly different story.

It seems to me that Bobby Kotick is to the gameing community what rape is to senators. It's something everyone can get behind hating...

Right, so you are saying that Kotick would turn down a potential profit of millions of dollars because "Moooooommy, Timmy said I don't like games :(((" I may not be a part of the gaming industry, but I am a part (slave) of something quite similar, and the only talk that matters is moneytalk.

Also, sales aren't everything. And before you point out that this contradicts my previous statement, let me clarify it. Critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase, regardless of numbers, are extremely valuable and are seriously considered by a publisher of anything, be it books, music or videogames. Acclaim does all sorts of good things to a publisher's reputation that have indirect financial implications, it works the same way as an advertising campaign, plus it has the potential to spring into something massive in the future. It's an investment. This is why Team Ico are still making games although they have sold less than MW2 did in the first 6 hours of its release. Still, do feel free to ditch all my comments at will, since I am "just some forum poster".

Except that after e3, Newell was right back to bashing the PS3. I guess they didn't offer him enough donuts to take it seriously. But I'm confused as to what compelled Tim Schafer to compare himself to Han Solo.
The fact that he's a huge nerd.

And to the people who think it doesn't matter what you say as long as you do good work... Well, you're welcome to come back to reality at any point I guess.

Tim's right to wish he didn't say what he did. You really think it's Activision who's on his case for that? I doubt EA appreciates unprofessional behavior from the people they represent.

It's too late for damage control, now, Tim. Instead of saying it was an accident, just man up and apologize if you really want to stop that bridge from burning down.
It was an accident. He accidentally forgot to say "This is off the record." He accidentally forgot how much this could hurt him in a small community where everyone knowns everyone and executives from major publishers talk to each other.

On a side note, major props for the avatar. Not only advocating for proper English, but also supporting the proper use of the letter "u".
He also forgot to turn the safety on, because he also accidentally shot himself in the foot. "Activision Continues to Not Publish Schafer, Does Not Give Millions to Development."

Also, thanks. And you do mean advocating the use of "you" rather than the txtspk "u," correct? If not, I've lost what you meant on that comment. D=

An accident? I didn't expect that, but still Schafer comments make more sense than Activision's counter-commented.

No, I mean the letter "u". As a fellow Canadian I fully support the Queen's English.

It may have been an accident, but it needed to be said. The truth hurts sometimes.

Schafer doesn't need to apologies for anything. He's just stated what we all think.

Han Solo piloted the Millinium Falcon, not an X-Wing, you poor excuse for a nerd.
The X-wing comment was Kotick's, not Schafer's.

I don't know why he would want to detract his statement. It's something any one of us would say after being told our game wasn't sequeltastic enough and to hit the road.
