Sci-Fi Channel Hits Head, Wakes Up As "Syfy" - UPDATED

I've been reading the comments for 20 minutes now, it's pretty entertaining. So far I haven't found a positive one yet.

I'm also pretty impressed by the sophistication of some answers, Sci-Fi watchers are sure ahead of the curve in America and the internet.

SyFy justy means they'll make poor shows for a channel with a name like an STD, rather than poor shows for a channel that sounds made for geeks like me .

however the name is stupid, the Canadian version of the SciFi channel went thru a name change from "The Space Channel" to "Space" which i thought was much better, just sux they got bought by ctv and chum/city is no longer the sole owner, such great memories of the various chum/city stations

Still, I don't watch this channel anymore, so it won't really bother me. At least not until the "aggressive marketing campaign" starts up, depending on how easy it is ignore.

Still reading comments, the overall negativity is almost getting ridiculous. I bet there were more positive comments when the PS3's price was announced.

Granted, this is kinda like when the "Nintendo Revolution" became "Wii," but the difference is that Nintendo has had a pretty good track record of bringing out good content, regardless of its name. Sci-fi has made blunder after blunder and this is just the cherry on top.

I love the original movies. They give me something to laugh at when I am really bored...mostly because they do indeed suck.

More on topic, SyFy reminds me of Syphilis. That's also kind of funny, in a sad way.

All of the reasons they gave for the name change all sounded like corporation speak for "Hell, everyone else is doing it, don't want to get left behind".

I liked the Sci-fi channel, it didnt hide behind fancy names, it was exactly what it said it was, a channel dedicated to science fiction. Shame they changed it.

You know that the last season was meant to have around an hour per episode, but SyFy had them cut it down to 45 at the last minuet? Christ I can't wait for the extended DVD version to watch it as it was meant to be, and without this travesty of a channels watermark.
