The change from Sci-Fi to SyFy is actually very practical, as much as I hate it. In order to market their channel they needed a new trademark they could slap on everything. In the end, the really dedicated fanbase will continue to watch and adapt and while they may lose some of their audience, they will make up for lost profits by being able to slap SyFy onto every single intellectual property that they own.

I really only want to know if they will continue the New Year's Eve Twilight Zone marathon. I can live with a different name watermark in the corner.
Thank God, someone who finally gets why they changed to syfy. I've watched this thread a bit and your the first one I saw that understood why they did it...

I did a google search for SyFy and found this instead of the scifi channel
Polish word: syfy is plural of syf : crap, filth, s***, junk or pimple."

Other than that flaw with the name, I believe it is good name change. I do not like their new motto, "Imagine Greater" which just has me wondering what it means. Why didn't they use "Greater Imagination" or "Dream Big" or "Wild Imagination" or "Pseudo-Science R' Us?"

Whatever, I have no reason to watch SciFi channel after Friday, when the best show in the last couple of years comes to an end. Yes, I'm talking about Battlestar Galactica, and if you didn't know that, you should watch the entire series because you will love it.
i know this off topic but I want to know why people still love this series? I watched up to but not including the newest season. I just didn't want to watch it anymore, the same thing happened for me with Heroes or Alias. ... they came a point where the story got or became too retarded to watch.

I found Heroes pretty horrible after the first season, but I don't think Battlestar Galactica has declined in quality. There's been a huge amount of progression, a bit of retconning, potential unresolved plot holes and a few lows here and there, but it's still managed to remain one incredible.

Why do I love Battlestar Galactica? I feel it's one of the most human and relatable shows on television, it's easily the most intense show on television, it's been pushing the boundaries of what you can do and say on TV for a while now (when people say frak, we definitely get the point), it's visually stunning, and I love the moral and political dilemmas that constantly arise throughout the series. The show is never preachy. It always remains ambiguous, and never gives you any answers... It just gives you balanced arguments and lets you make the decisions for themselves. No two people will take out of Battlestar Galactica the same things. No two people will agree on all the issues.

Week after week it's been the only show that fills me both with a sense of dread and a sense of hope. I love the dialogue, I actually care what happens to the characters, and it's the most mature thing I've seen on TV. It makes almost every other show on right now look like crap.

Name a show that has had equal parts drama, action, solid story-telling, and such strong philosophic undertones... I used to love Heroes, but you can't compare it to Battlestar Galactica.

What part of BSG do you find retarded? The first half of season 4 was a little weak, but overall, the series has really set a new standard for quality, I think.

And with this simple phonetic trick, the channel manages to look like a disease on paper.

Not that I care, since I live in the middle of nowhere, also known as Scandinavia.
