You sir, have an image for every occasion. Now excuse me while I attempt to remove both the memory of former glory and depths of current stupidity from my head with the keyboard.

Like what happened to Tech-TV. Used to be a good source for tech news and little bits of gaming and culture when the inter webs was still in a weird stage. It then went to G4-TTV which was pretty cool added alot more gaming shows and still kept the old good ones. When X-Play was cool. Now its just a bunch of COPS re-runs and shizzy shows like Cheaters and the new X-Play (gurggle). Although i do like their movies that dont suck selection.

I say, with no irony whatsoever, that is just dumb.
I have nothing more to say.
Oh yeah, it's not hip, it's douchey.

Do any Science fiction fans even watch the Sci-fi channel. I mean occasionally they will have something good on (Gurren comes on tonight at 8:00) but usually they have the god awful movies that you watch just to laugh at. I mean come on, any channel that broadcasts Uwe Boll movies is already in the dirt. I say who cares! Although it is quite funny.

Reading those quotes from the channel president gave me no end of delight. I guess when you reach a certain level of administrative responsibility - and are exceedingly stupid - you literally lose the ability to communicate in anything but obtuse corporate speak. I don't think Dilbert ever faced such a pile of "paradigmatic synergy" in his entire career. It is truly fascinating.

(Oh, and it's going to be hilarious when the corporate drones finally realize the world isn't interested in adopting their new "lifestyle brand" when they're still just pumping out cheap geek-focused pap not even geeks are bored enough to watch anymore. Delightful.)

I remember when MTV actually ran music videos. No, really, once upon a time...

Then again, I've never been too impressed with the management at Sci-Fi/SyFy; too penny-pinching, too openly contemptuous of their core audience, too uninformed about the genre they're peddling. Besides, I sorta know a couple of people that they've stiffed. Don't ever do freelance work on something for these guys without getting the cheque when you turn the work over to 'em... or they'll drag their feet on paying in the hopes that you'll just give up and walk away.

It's just a sad excuse for a network, no matter how "hip" the name is.

-- Steve

PS: I saw someone mention the "Poochy" character from The Simpsons's "Itchy and Scratchy Show" in reference to this debacle. I'd have laughed harder if I didn't think they were exactly right...

The change from Sci-Fi to SyFy is actually very practical, as much as I hate it. In order to market their channel they needed a new trademark they could slap on everything. In the end, the really dedicated fanbase will continue to watch and adapt and while they may lose some of their audience, they will make up for lost profits by being able to slap SyFy onto every single intellectual property that they own.

I really only want to know if they will continue the New Year's Eve Twilight Zone marathon. I can live with a different name watermark in the corner.

Ughhh all that advertising language makes me want to chew my own fist's

"It also positions the brand for future growth by creating an ownable trademark that can travel easily with consumers across new media and nonlinear digital platforms, new international channels and extend into new business ventures."

Wha???

"Syfy allows us to build on our 16-year heritage of success with a new brand built on the power that fuels our genre: the imagination. Syfy ushers in a new era of unlimited imagination, exceptional experiences and greater entertainment that paves the way for us to truly become a global lifestyle brand."

Seriously the guy who wrote that must be a complete cock!

I used to watch Sci-Fi for Farscape and Stargate, then Stargate and Battlestar, then just Battlestar, and in one more week... nothing? I can't even watch the older shows that I enjoy, like The X-files, Highlander, Andromeda, and Babylon 5, because they're never on. Guess I'll quit watching Skiffy after this week.

Well I'm never watching TV on TV again. I'm just going to stick with some combination of discs, direct downloads, and Netflix.

Hmm... I honestly have no reaction to this.

But I hope Syfy channel original movies are as awesomely bad as Sci-Fi channel original movies.

Still reading comments, the overall negativity is almost getting ridiculous. I bet there were more positive comments when the PS3's price was announced.
Granted, this is kinda like when the "Nintendo Revolution" became "Wii," but the difference is that Nintendo has had a pretty good track record of bringing out good content, regardless of its name. Sci-fi has made blunder after blunder and this is just the cherry on top.
Yeah, add me to the growing K2 sized list of people who think is just a weak attempt at looking cool.

Well...I had a feeling that the channel would go downhill after the series finale of Battlestar Galactica...
Oh yeah... haven't heard this much babble since the last time we saw a hybrid on the show.

They're going the direction of the Wii. I get it. Good one. OK, is the joke over?
