wow I really hate these studies... okay yes, video games do have some after effects like if you get really into it and are rich and don't need to do anything else other than eat and play, sure that can cause obesity. If you're a kid who plays blood fests like Ninja Gaiden 2 and already have mental issues like coming from a broken home then yes chances are the game will cause some violent tendencies... But come on, "they're not enjoying the game instead imitating real life playing"? hmm, I don't really think one can call gears of war or madworld real life situations. Call me crazy but I'm not much of a reader, I kinda refer to my games as my books, for example someone sits down with a Tom Clancy book for 3 hours and they're intelligent, same person sits with a Tom Clancy game for 3 hours and they're now all of a sudden a destined obese depro?

Studies like this give gamers a bad name. People (especially parents) need to accept that this is a technological age. Most parents constantly find new excuses to try get their kids to stop playing video games, excuse the conspiracy theory but I got a feeling thats why "studies" like these are done. I mean I played games most of my childhood and now im at uni living a normal life, same story for all my buds. So I dunno who the subjects of this test were, but chances are they were depro long before the games got to them... ok that's the end of my rant, I just really don't like these apparent "studies"
Sorry I couldn't help but spell check this. I just hate it when people say u or ur or that stuff

....I'm not a grammar nazi it just bothers me!

Fair enough if the majority of gamers are Fat and Depressed(I don't know how being depressed is Loserish) but what a pointless study it's like conducting a study into how Heroin addicts are thin and have low sex drives.

I'm not thank god Fallout 3 actually expanded My interest in Old music and Half Life 2 is still an example of a emotional game.

i mean the stuff they say is true if you are completly sucked into a game like WoW like i was and only bad things were happening but the thing the study misses is that there are different types and levels of gamers and shoving them all into the same pot is just wrong, and saying people who play are depressed is so wrong gaming is what makes me happyer i would probally be depressed without them
So true indeed.

Well depression does seem to nip at my heels constantly but i guess science knows best so il assume my relative career success and good physical shape are just figments of my imagination.

Oh yeah? Well Scientists are all ugly-as-sin twats who had to pay to get their wicks waxed and have no friends due to their cynical and tunnel-visioned idealism based on small numbers representing large quantities.

Scientist- Hey look, these 4 out of 5 guys we brought in are gay, therefore, we conclude that 80% of the male population is gay. HUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

[sub]And we all die in the end anyway. Oh wait... Im starting to sound depressed too![/sub]

But of course, they will argue to the death like many have before this post.

I'm underweight, no longer go into bouts of depression thanks to finding meaning purpose and direction in life in my senior year of high school, and my friends and I communicate primarily through the internet, so I will stick two bony middle fingers up at those researchers, and say "come and get them"(because apparently researchers are English soldiers and I am a French soldier)

Fat people might prefer games which they can play with a controller, rather than rough, violent, energy-intensive physical sports?

IMAGINE THAT.

Hmm let me check, nope not fat, nope perfectly happy. I guess i'm not a gamer then.
That's almost word for word what I was about to type.

On topic, I think non-athletic or depressed people are sometimes drawn to games. Obviously, if you have an extremely fast-calculating tactical mind but can't play sports for shit, video games are something you'd excel at. And if life sucks at the moment, gaming is an escape from the sucky real world.

It's true, I'm overweight(actually in better shape than I was a few years ago tho), I'm depressed and whether I'm a loser or not is debatable based on your definition. But I'm glad games are there, without them life would be bleak and meaningless to me.

Thanks science, now how about you tell me what the thump-thump is that's coming from my chest?

Oh wait, i remember it's my heart rate rising due to the fact that scientists are becoming utterly retarded.

really? so even though I played five years of football (not as a lineman) I'm fat and socially awkward just because I like me some fallout 3? stereotypes are annoying. people are either suprosed I love football or surprised I play videogames. why can't I do both?

I'm feeling bias in this "scientific report" here, gotta say.
They never thought to ask if the depressed and fat people were playing video games because they were already depressed and fat?

I mean, I was depressed and fat when I started playing video games, now... I'm just fat!

I'd find a much more interesting study whether fat and/or depressed people (Which I will call fressed people for the remainder of this post) became fressed by playing games, or turned to games because they was already fressed.

If it's a cause of fressification then that deserves looking into.

If on the other hand it's a way of copying as a fressified person then that deserves some credit too.

Exactly. People tend to neglect or discredit DDR.

I have a friend of mine who was a bit overweight, UNTIL he started playing DDR at a local arcade. Ever since then he's gotten a job, friends, and a new pair of Puma sneakers to help aide him on his quest to losing weight.
