...Why? It sounds funny, but why is it a funny term?Zeetchmen said:Pro-Gamers is a funny term in and of itself
But darts is a sport... I can understand your point.. I was just saying that noone considered darts to be ATHLETIC.Vanguard_Ex said:That's exactly my point. No one says it's athletic so you don't need to prove that.ScruffyTheJanitor said:Noone says darts is athletic either :/ It's a sport (that granted, requires very little movement, but it's amazing what you can call sport nowadays).Vanguard_Ex said:So...who actually has claimed that pro gamers are the same as athletes? It seems pretty fucking obvious to me...pro darts players aren't the same as athletes either.
The word itself does. Its actually a Greek word we nicked at some point, means "contestant."dalek sec said:Oh well thank god they're doing this as to trying to find a new fuel source, curing cancer or anything like that....
Who ever said that pro gamers are athletes anyways?
Or maybe these kids just sit on their fat asses and smoke dope all day....Jamash said:If not bullshit, then there must be mitigating circumstances which aren't being reported, perhaps chronic childhood asthma which caused this person to stay in and play video games (thus becoming a pro gamer) instead of being an active, sporty child.Deofuta said:Although, the lung quality of a 60 year old heavy smoker just screams bullshit to me. You dont get like that from just sitting around.
Strange, I heard the exact opposite in an interview with a Dutch pro-gamer. He said that next to gaming practice he had to go to the gym on a regular basis to train his endurance.Andy Chalk said:One "leading gamer" in his 20s who took part in the study was described as appearing "slim and healthy, with a physique similar to an endurance athlete." But things were a little less sunny under the hood: Testing revealed that he had the lung function and aerobic fitness of "a heavy smoker in his 60s," which Micklewright said was probably a consequence of being parked in front of a screen for ten hours a day. He also warned that the pro gamer lifestyle could have serious long-term effects.

Yeah that was a mistake, I corrected it. But okay, THANKS FOR THAT, even though my point hasn't changed at all.ScruffyTheJanitor said:But darts is a sport... I can understand your point.. Two different things here, and gaming can be a sport. If you are playing competitively then you are playing for sport, so at a professional level of playing competitive games it is a sport. However there is nothing athletic about it, hence they are not athletes.Rokar333 said:I have seen someone really claim with real conviction that gaming can be a sport along with such things as football and basketball. Maybe if I show him the link that will get him to shut the fuck up.
