The games shop in town has a disk buffer, £2 and it works 85-90% of the time. Its tempting toi use the bannana method on my copy of Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, but the fasct is that the disk isnt that badly scratched, I can still play terrorist hunt, but if u get the nanners involved then Im not sure it would work

Never had a scratched disc, and now I'm probably not going to get more games for my Xbox.

A banana? How wonderfully bizarre, I shall have to try that sometime. Incidentally, I absolutely terrified of moving my Xbox while it's running now. I've had four disks scratched to hell by slightly tilting it. Including my precious Oblivion.

The banana is a good trick. I'm surprised that I'm not the only one using this :D a good way to prevent these situations are storing your games in book shelves, hiding your console and stuff like that. But still. Banana's are awesome.

that's quite the interesting method. If I ever get a scratched disc, I will remember this thread.

Oh ffs. I should kill you all. Go to someplace that sells/rents video games like a used video game store and ask them to buff out the scratches for a small fee. They all have them (except for those soulless pricks at GameStop) and it's what keeps them in business.

A banana is a bad idea. So is rubbing alcohol, toothpaste, windex, rubbing it on the carpet, and buying a new one just to name a few others.

Meh I just take them to BlockBuster. $4 and 8 minutes it is like I just bought the disk.
$4?! My local CD Tradepost will do it for $0.29 per disk!

I just got a cloth and wiped them, i've never had any badly scratched discs, which is funny because I am one to forget to put my discs back in their case.

If the game was only four days old, and you had the receipt, you should have been able to return it to the store for a new one. Just say that when you opened it it had the gouge and wouldn't play properly. They would have replaced it for a new one. However, now that you have smeared it with who knows what materials, it may be a bit harder to convince the store clerk.

I use a disk cleaner. It cleans disks.

To keep the system from ruining the disks, have it in a position where it will not 'tip over'. Take out disks after you are done playing and return them to their case. If you are running the console for reasons other than game use, be sure that a game is not in it. And, lastly, do not move the xbox around when in use.

I've never tried anything like that, actually. If the disc is scratched to hell, usually It means I've been playing it too much anyway.

My friend told me to rub peanut butter on the disk and then wipe it off with a coffee filter, but all that succeeded in doing was make me feel kind of dumb.

I work in a video store and i have heard all of the quick fixes for discs. Rub peanut butter on it, Use windex on it, toothpaste etc. I would never use any of them however. Just bring it to any store that has a resurfacing machine. As long as the scratch isnt deep enough to affect the information on the disc a person who knows what they are doing would be able to fix it.

That's why I miss cartridges...You could fix those by just blowing on them. =)

Yeah, a lot of my discs end up being scratched because I play a lot of games at once, or else I just play them so much that the console starts OM NOM NOMing them. I often figure that the disc being scratched is the Universe's way of telling me I've been playing too much.

Xbox 360's have this annoying tendency of fucking eating your disks if they move an inch.

I still like catridges better than disks in terms of reliability. You can do anything you damn well want with them as long as the pins are clean and not broken, you're golden!

I'll file this as Reason #487 why I love stuff like Steam. No disc to break, and if my PC goes straight to hell I just download all the games onto the new PC.
