Scratched my copy of Saint's Row 1. It's $20 to get a new copy versus 300 for a new box if these crazy methods fuck my box up.

I think I'll be sticking with the $20 option, thanks. It may be $20 wasted but it feels safer.

This sounds more like something my friend Adam would stumble upon while having breakfast. Either way, just a good thing to know:

scratched disk + banana = playable game.

Deodorant and hairspray have always worked for me.
You know. Unless they were deep friggin' trenches.
I'll try the banana thing next time.
Can you explain that in more detail, please?

I got my Assassins Creed 2 scratched today by moving the cabinet that holds my xbox and tv 200 degree, no idea a small movement like that could scratch my discs. My xbox was on while moving and the scratch is pretty deep, but the weirdest thing happened. The game itself is fine, however I can no longer hear rgw conversations. I could use one of these tricks but I don't think I want to risk damaging the game.

Bananas, freezing in the freezer and toothpaste are supposed to work great. But you can always get those disk cleaner sets.

Sure.

Hold the deodorant/hairspray about half a metre away from the disc, and spray just enough so that the base fogs up.
You do not want it to drip. If it drips, you have done too much.
Then, with a piece of tissue/any clean, soft material, wipe it until it is clear.
The scratch will still be there, but for some reason, it sometimes works after that.

So have any of you experienced the frustration of scratched discs? What did you do to solve it? Did it work? How do you prevent the xbox turning your precious games to drink coasters and frisbees?!
I haven't, but I know of a few people that have (ironically, always with their "HALO" 3 copies (GET IT?! GET IT?!) and they took it to the local Game store were they have this cool machine (that works on pretty much the same basis, adds layers), it definetly did work, and there is one INFALLIBLE and absolutely GREAT way of avoiding the problem from the start.

Oh. And keep parents away from your gaming devices.
... I am still bitter after my dad threw my Game boy out the window...

OH YES YOU GUESSED IT, DON'T PUT IT VERTICALLY!
Seriously, that should come in the xbox manual...

I haven't experienced this. I'm not stupid.
It really isn't difficult to not scratch disks. Put them in their cases, take them out of the console when you're finished and don't do anything daft when you're playing them.

Why was your mum balancing on a chair? Are you in a circus?
Getting to a high cupboard. I was practicing tightrope the other two times I knocked the xbox though, so, close.

Ok mister/miss high and mighty, as explained in the OP the 360 is highly prone to scratching discs, if you are lucky enough not to have done so congrats but surprisingly it can happen to us mere mortals.

Doesn't make you stupid that you get scratches on games. Especially if you're playing a 360. I dare you to look at every single one of your games and come back and say that. I guarantee there will be at least one scratch on a game. This stuff just happens. I take care of my stuff extremely well, as I'm really, really, REALLY OCD. And, yes, while I have never messed up a disc bad enough to prevent it from working, there have been small, almost minuscule scratches on my discs.
