Elaborate, yes. Agreeable, no.
I guess that's what I get for trying to discuss anything with a WoW fanboy.
Maybe you should read a book once in a while. It might lead you to the conclusion that World of Warcraft and anime isn't the pinnacle of narrative genius.

I don't remember stating they were. Care to point it out for my poor, deluded, fanboy mind?

I'm so glad they've thrown away the do-it-all script. A lot of game or comic movies suffer when a director decides to have the whole world with all it's heroes in one movie. There's just not enough time to develop so many characters. At the end you feel detached from the personalities and don't really care for the support crew. And it feels even irritating when they are included only for completeness without adding anything to the main story.

What I would like to see in the Warcraft movie is one story. How hard it is to make one band of heroes with one quest. Make the villains of the opposing faction if you like, but keep their personalities in the shadow. Preferably no cameos from important lore figures (like that's gonna happen). Just make involving story, action and cut.

Let's take a moment to look at the expectations for this film:
a) Game films are rarely (read: almost never) good. Possibly the only game film that could stand on its own as a solid production was Resident Evil (the first one). Now I want to be clear: When I say it's a good game film, I don't mean true to the story; not necessarily. What I want to say is that you can enjoy it as a film whether you're a fan of the game or not. Max Payne was a game that looked like a film to begin with and they managed to turn it into... that!
b) Raimi is a douche. Seriously. Look at his work.

Oh yeah and another thing. Why does everyone keep calling this the WoW movie. Warcraft as a franchise and the latest game in that franchise are two different things. This is a film based on the former, the franchise, NOT THE MMO. I expect this kind of thing from the lame news sites that deal mostly with celebrity gossip, but I never expected this from the escapist.

In Whitta's opinion, his script was accessible to newcomers to the franchise, while remaining true to the spirit of the game.

It always sucks when the 'little guy' gets supplanted by the big player, especially over what could have been an incredible opportunity for them.
Gary Whitta was apparently a consultant on Duke Nukem Forever. Sam probably thought he might want to get the damn film finished before 2020...

Just wondering....How the heck do you make a movie out of an mmorgp???
You hit your thirteenth birthday, and realise that World of Warcraft is part of the utterly spectacular Warcraft universe.

Sam Raimi's a good director, I heard a rumour somewhere thet they were getting the guy who wrote the script for Saving Private Ryan, which was a good film. Warcraft has a lot of great backstory and is designed around being a cinematic experience. I can't wait, and it's going to be awesome.

(also, all I got from this other guy was "I filled my script with blatant fanservice for the entire thing! There's one bit where Arthas teams up with Malfurion and Tyrande to fight Gul'dan and Illidan! In Icecrown! And everything's on fire! Look at how many references I can fit into one scene!")
Yeah....okay. It would seem to me that the experience in an mmo is built around a personal and social experience that is tailored by the player to better represent how they want to experience the game world. You can't do that in a movie because the director and writers have a vision of their own and specific things they want to explore.

Now if you're talking about a story set in the world of warcraft world using the canon, I guess that makes sense, but I still don't think it's going to be making anyone's day.

To be fair, I know nothing about that stuff you talked about at the end of your post having not played any world of warcraft except for one RTS (3 I think). FWI, I'm 20 and in college, very much past my "thirteenth birthday"...

Anyone who thinks this film is going to be based around the subculture generated by WoW must be kidding... maybe which ever director feels a 'parody movie' of it is nessicary...

But nah, the movie will definately be based around Warcraft and it's story/lore. Not WoW. (Not that they're actually exclusive of each other, it's just if you're a bit retarded and anti-WoW this needs clarification)
I'll give you money if there isn't an oblique reference to Leeroy Jenkins in the final product.
Okay, but I bet equal amounts theres a referance to the existance of murlocs before it, if not promenently featured.

If someone is attacked by a gang of murlocs I also win the internet.

Okay back to reality...
