Wait....people expect a good plot from a Micheal Bay movie that features giant, fighting robots?

Hmm....I just go expecting cool fight scenes, explosions, some more explosions, and an explosion to top it all off.

did anyone here see the transformers animated movie?

speed and glam rock throughout the movie with Orson Welles doing the voice for Unicron, a bad ass 'bot that turns into the death star.

Gosh, such negativity from you guys. I really enjoyed the first movie and I hope the second one is just as good if not better.

I won't ask what you guys hated about it because I don't really feel like reading that wall of text and hearing about how they fucked up your childhood. My standards for movies must be really low because I enjoy almost every movie I watch. I don't think they're all masterpieces, but they leave me feeling quite content when I leave the theater.

I mean seriously it seems like every big movie that comes out EVERYBODY, and I mean, EVERYBODY hates it, then again it could just be that those who hate it feel they need to spread the bile so they run to the internet.

I set forth a challenge to all of you to do what I do when I go see a movie; Sit down in the theater with little to no expectations about what's coming and grasp the basic concept that movies are meant to be entertaining. Don't go in expecting it to be the thing of fan-fiction because its not. Try, just try to freaking enjoy a movie for once instead of looking for everything bad about it.

That's my two cents on the matter, I really don't care what you think about it.
This. I also really enjoyed the first Transformers movie, not really expecting much more that some explosions and big robots occassioanly smashing each other up. Thankfully, I got what I wanted. Even if the Transformers is the holy grail of ones childhood memories, I'm not going to thorugh a hissy fit if the film does live up to those standards. As we know, standards determined by childhood nostalgia are going to be set unfeasibly high.

In the same way, I also couldn't see what everyone's beef was with the 4th Indiana Jones film. The most common gripe I heard was that it wasn't anywhere near as good as the previous three. Well, it wouldn't be, would it? Remember you were probably around 10 when you watched those films and everything seems so much better when you were around that age. Then, when people were all going mad about the monkey scene and Indy surviving a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge, I just thought those scenes were rather funny and entertaining (granted, in the case of the monkey scene, just because it was so daft).

GIANT FUCKING ROBOTS.

Okay here is how you do a Transformer movie, you have ONE token human, he is there to be the team pet and then the robots beat on each other over a MacGuffin.

At some point robots combine and it will be awesome and *SPOILER* In the end the good guys win and Megatron swears vengence against Optimus Prime AGAIN and if were lucky Unicron can show up. but better save that for a third movie.
Nah Unicron will either be a massive unicycle or a giant cloud of nanobots.

Hell I'm not even a big transformers fan but even I get the point of it. GIANT ROBOTS. not Shia LeBoeuf trying to get some.

I called it before the strike :)
Same here, but the thread title lured me in here thinking it was another flamebait thread.
And isn't every M. Bay movie about special effects more than writing?

the thing about the Transformers movie is that they gave a big middle finger to all the fans, unlike Star Wars and Indiana Jones, they completely ignored the story they had already. in interviews Micheal Bay said "i have never seen the transformers nor will i, i just wanted to make a movie with big robots and explosions"

This man speeketh the truth. Hell I enjoyed the first one, it was fun to watch. Anyone expecting to go in and have them pull off some brilliant story is a fool. The whole point of transformers was giant fucking robots beating the shit out of each other on a regular basis...thats it. Hell given what they had to work with, the first movie had a pretty decent story.

How hard could it be? Just cut and paste from the current hit teen drama, and intersperse it with scenes of robots fighting. Seemed to work for the first one.

I don't see why people dislike the Transformers movies. I loved the first one and am very excited for the second...AND I GREW UP WITH THE TRANSFORMERS...

I go to movies for enjoyment and entertainment. If the second movie is anything like the first then i'll be very happy...

Nostalgia can be a great thing...or it can ruin everything

Well, no one watches these movies for the plot anyway.
Then what DO they watch it for? Do they get paid to see it?
explosions I guess.
And seamless CGI transformations. Besides, it'll probably still make a fair profit, because many people who aren't here on the Escapist, learning about T2's suckiness, will walk blindly into the theater and expect the same thing they saw last time and liked: big testosterone fueled cars and Megan Fox. And they'll eat it up.

The first film wasn't all that great, so I doubt the sequel will be any better. Blaming it on the writers strike is just bad form on their part. I mean, it ended Feb. 12, 2008, plenty of time to write a script.
