...That is fucking low. To steal from kids with cancer. That is just sick.

I really hope they get this guy and rip him a new one...

While I do think the crime is disgusting and that the man needs to be caught and punished I also think the faux angry mob is pointless and wrong. Your angry words and thoughts are appreciated I'm sure but donations to hospitals would do more good. Also as a kid who grew up in hospitals let me tell you that I highly valued what toys there were and this was before we got video games to play with. There was one toy room you had to drag yourself down to pulling your little rolling IV pole along behind you while a nurse or doctor propped you up when your legs went weak. I know what suffering while recovering is and I don't take it lightly.

I hate the man who has stolen these consoles regardless of his reasons, however I would still not want him punished beyond what the law demands. Punishment does not change anything, does not right the wrongs done and serves only as catharsis for the punisher not the actual victims. What is true justice is making the man apologize to each child he has deprived of solace, to making him see the actual people he has harmed. In that way and only that way are both parties given what is due.

Violence is often an instinctual reaction but very rarely the answer.

You think this is bad? I heard on the news the other day where this young 10-12 yr old girl who was deaf and had some kind of disease that was going to kill her, was abused by her own parents. Not only that but its suspected that her own mother allowed two men to rape the child. Afterwards her body was chopped up into peices and ditched elsewhere... People make me sick. :|

How big of an asshole do you have to be to steal from kids at all,let alone kids with cancer!

This guy has a special place in hell just for him.

People... people... don't be so harsh... no reason to kill the guy... I think we should do the humane thing and FORCE THE ASSHOLE TO SWIM IN TOXIC WASTE UNTIL HE HAS MORE TUMORS THAN SKIN CELLS...
Or turns into a Super Mutant, whichever comes first.
The good thing about that, is if he does become a "super mutant", he'll have the instinctual need to punish evil doers! So, he might break a broomstick up his own arse, then make himself swallow the other half, or he might turn a guy into a giant hamburger/french fry combo!

Alrighty "Steve"...if that is your real name. I already joined the angry mob in order to fit in. I'll get the torches if you get the pitch forks. The we can all go have a few drinks, get on our pedestals and talk about how morally awesome and genetically superior we are.
My word, you are an ignorant one aren't you? We are clearly the bottom-feeding scum-suckers at the deepest pit of the murkiest oceans, and you are the blond-haired, blue-eyed male of the hail-hitler Aryan race huh?

Besides the clear lack of any "genetic superior-ness" being claimed in this thread, its far past painfully obvious that ain't it. But hey, maybe YOU are the guy, just trying to defend yourself while you hide out in a library and surfing the internet while trying to think of a way to steal the computer without anyone noticing.

But hey, if your kid (god forbid your genes ever get passed on) gets sick with a potentially fatal, expensive, and painful-to-treat illness, I'll be sure to break into his room, steal his bed, pillows, hell I even take his bed-pan. Its not like he really needs all that anyways. While I'm at it, I'll steal the TV, and the food he was supposed to get. Morphine IV too if he's on it.

Better yet, imagine how you'd feel if your kid was one of the kids there who had cancer, how would you feel then? Or if you know what its like to have someone to die of cancer close to you and the family? But of course, you're clearly genetically better, so i bet you just shit rainbows and live long, prosperous lives free of illness.

1. I never said ANYTHING even close to that. Don't even know how you came to that conclusion.

2. That was sarcasm.

3. I'm sure my chance of passing on my genes are far greater than your sorry ass limp dicked pseudo intellectual ass. Can't imagine anyone imagine any woman with an IQ above 25 would want to go anywhere near you.

All I did was present the other side of the case. Unlike most people here who jumped straight to "kill the bastard". Don't attack my intelligence, dipshit. I clearly have a more rational mind than most people on this thread.
I hate to prolonge this, but in your first point you said you had not suggested that you were better than anyone else. That may have been true, however attempting to prove your humility fell slightly flat with "I clearly have a more rational mind than most people on this thread".

It seems to me that you have mistaken arrogence for intellegence: It's good to deliver the contrast perspective, but doing so with "might" or "could" arguements (there were many other places which would not have brought into question his morality to have stolen from)is flawed because in theory, he might have just perfected the cure for AIDS using the stolen hard drives, but he probably didn't, likewise, he "might" have stolen them to feed his starving familly, but he probably didn't because there are so many better places to get money and food. But thinking that your more intellegent because you haven't gone with the flow is what you've done, and instead of seeming actually clever, you've presented yourself to be arrogent and ignorant.

Oi. Shut it. Why did you think we wanted our days to be made even worse?

Now I'm going to erase that from my memory.

And my faith in humanity drops another notch.

Seriously man? Stealing from kids. With cancer. Get stoned. And by that I mean get rocks thrown at you, not the other one.

This sounds like something I would do for shits and giggles when playing a very evil character in Fallout 3. Can't believe someone would do this in RL, it still makes me laugh though it is very wrong.

Apparently it's not all bad.

Update: After seeing the story on Kotaku, EA has contacted the Carolinas Medical Center and will be replacing the consoles and supplying them with new games. From an EA spokesperson:

"This story really struck us at EA. We can't believe someone would do this right before Christmas and victimize kids recovering from cancer no less. We've made contact with the hospital and EA's going to step up to replace the Carolinas Medical Center's consoles before Christmas and hook them up with new games as well. Hopefully this will brighten up the kids' holidays. Thanks for bringing this story to the attention of the industry."

Update 2: The Halo Waypoint team at Microsoft dropped us a line to let us know that they also had a care package on the way.

This is excellent news. :) it's nice to see there are some non-Activision-like games corps out there. Also, it's nice to know they'll be receiving some damn good games (no matter what the haters say).

You know, so long as the kids get their stuff I find I don't care about this person.

......and then later that day they gave her a box of puppies that viciously attacked and ate one another....

I thought thieves mainly stole from the rich who didn't need all this stuff. God damn, how wrong was I.

This is why I'm starting to lose hope in humanity.
Thieves steal from those who can't fight back. Those who are weak or poor are less likely to pose a threat. If this guy is found he wont get the punishment most think he deserves. If he had ripped off a big rich corporation for the same value he would have been sued and mybae gone to jail on top of that. Justice is blind...

I don't have much money since I'm a student. I currently don't have a VISA card. I don't have a job or any solid source of income. I got a lot of stuff I need for my apartment. Still I am going to donate when I get my VISA card though I can't afford much.
The fact you're willing to give while having little says outstanding things about your character. Even so, be careful not to dig yourself into any financial trouble.
Financial trouble is what you make it to be. Can I afford to donate 10 maybe 20 bucks one day and rather pack lunches than buy them for one week? Settle for the cheapest cooking utensils and spit in another 10 or 20? More importantly: Can I go another month without buying Dead Rising 2, Donkey Kong Returns or any other game I might stumble across?
There's lots of ways I can make due by not buying something I can do without if I can make up for a small part of the bad things done. What I can afford wont save the world, but hopefully it can light up one face in the crowd.

...wow

I actually thought this story was fake before clicking the link because it just sounded so ridiculously cruel that it reminded me of those dark "I eat babies" type of jokes...

Huh...what is wrong with this world, again?
