There's something hilariously ironic about the juxtaposition of an E for Everyone rating and Serena Williams fine posterior.

Oh, wait, its the irony.

Why... why did I just watch a video of a shaved gorilla swing a glow in the dark dildo to a porn movie OST?
Holy shit, is that a Dresden Files reference?

I actually wanted the name "Gentleman Johnny Marcone" but it was way too long and I feared the name "The Gentleman" with the avatar would have gone unnoticed since the comic is not that well known. A little too subtle I am afraid.

Anyway this is like the 6-7th time someone on here has been surprised/happy to see a Dresden reference.
People act like its a big secret or something. Mr Butchers new books are quite often #1 on the NY best seller list so a lot of people should have been exposed to it... Oh wait. Not that many people read these days... Okay, I see the reason. XD

I was also rather disappointed that he was never portrayed in the TV Series but then, considering the quality of the casting decisions maybe it is for the best.
Would you recommend it? I've only ever read a couple of comics in my life time (Watchmen, a couple of Superman etc.), so where would I need to start? Is it one of those comics that has 30 year's worth of back story for me to catch up on?

While they succeeded at making me horny (which is not very difficult), I still think Tennis is stupid.
I think Serena is very hot, but I'm not that familiar with Tennis players to say if she's the sexiest. I guess it depends on whether you like athletic black women or not.

Will someone please explain to me why this site seems to always freak out when sexuality and games marketing are mentioned in the same sentence?
After the we dare debacle I hoped escapist wouldn't continue to fuel the flames by attacking anyone who dares combine the two.

Tennis to some is sexy. Physically fit women in skimpy skirts running back and forth doing all sorts of grunting. Is this really much worse than most Nike ads?

Look at that quote from 2k backpedaling and disassociating itself from the commercial. It sucks now that every developer needs to walk on eggshells in fear of creating something that might not live up to some old fart movie critics definition of art.

I thought the commercial was clever, painting this uber grrl-power quasi-dominatrix image of tennis, while highlighting the effort involved in actually playing the game. At the same time it showed shots of the actual game which was nothing like the wild scene unfolding in front of us, and the comment at the end only cemented the fact that the whole thing was ridiculous. It grabbed our attention, highlighted features of the game, and finished off by taking the piss out of itself.

There is nothing wrong with this commercial IMHO

Maria Sharapova scares me. She has a gorgeous face but she's taller than me and her shoulders, as that picture demonstrates, are beastly. I'm not exactly tiny and she could break me with absolutely zero effort.
And that's why she's the hottest :)

UPDATE: 2K Sports is putting some space between itself and the ad, claiming that it really had nothing at all to do with it. "As part of the process for creating marketing campaigns to support our titles, we pursue a variety of creative avenues," the company told Joystiq [http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/21/sexy-serena-williams-top-spin-4-ad]. "This video is not part of the title's final marketing campaign and its distribution was unauthorized."
I feel this has relevance

Did you even read through the comments? Half of them were complaining that Serena just isn't sexy, and suggesting their favorite tennis players who could've played a better role. Preferably in skimpy skirts.

It was simply badly done, and will be subject to criticism.

Well, to you perhaps, but the rest us saw...

Let The Ad Go!!

C'mon, people, it's silly, and so what? There are tons of things that put back videogames ten years (*cough* HEAVY RAIN *cough*), and this stupid ad isn't one of them. Is it worse than, say, playing any Dead or Alive game, or choosing any of the chicks from Soul Calibur and pitting them against each other, or fucking and then killing a hooker in any modern GTA game?

Is it okay to see and do crazy, heinous shit in gameform [sic] but not have it advertised, even if it is somewhat out of context with the game (yes, somewhat, haven't you guys ever focused on the players instead of the game in tennis)?

Self importance in the gaming community is way more toxic and damaging than any stupid ad any agency could churn out.

...it's bland uninteresting false sex appeal used to try and garner interest in a product that has nothing to do with sex, like the thousands of other products marketing departments try to spruce up by having a scantily clad woman display it.
Well there was at least a moment in time when women's tennis was higher rated on tv then men's (it might still be). I wonder if that had anything to do with the great bodies, short skirts, and long matches out in the hot sun... if that gets your core product more viewers -- then why not market a game based on tennis the same way? Personally I would have tried to get Ana Ivanovic or Kornikova, Sharipova, Paszek, or Kirilenko. I have no problem with Serena actually, and I assume the choice was made to market to the US.

A SFW photo of Ivanovic is here: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ZF6VMRwEzRA/TD612nODmwI/AAAAAAAAA7g/ho8pkayUJ5o/s1600/ana_ivanovic06.jpg

Google away I find her stunning.

I always see Serena Williams as the epitome of manliness is tennis, so this....frightens me.
Yeah, seriously the williams twins look like gorillas[footnote]It shouldn't need stating, but this isn't because they are black..darker skin tone can look amazing (and very distinctly female), I mean the facial and body structure makes them look like gorillas.[/footnote]...They have a jawline that makes mine look effeminate and have more muscle mass than the average professional wrestler has mass. Who decided she's even remotely sexy :S

Is it just me or did that ad have a certain "Michael Bay" vibe to it?

But yeah, in what poll was she voted the sexiest tennis player?

Also to 2k, you cant claim ignorance on this one. Before an ad is shown, it has to be proofed by the people paying for it, i.e, you. No company in the world would release without the contractor's approval, they have this thing called lawsuits that ad companies just hate.

I don't see what's wrong with this ad. You save Serena Williams, the number 1 ratings grabber in tennis, sexing it up to sell a tennis game. It knows what it's doing and doesn't shy away from it. At least it's a sexy ad that succeeds in being sexy unlike funny game ads that fail at being funny. Bite the bullet and see what happens.

Yeah, the stick-in-the-mud nerds won't like it, you have a big scary black women doing things in a videogame ad. Hell no.

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAAAAhahahaahaaahaaaaa....

I just can't get angry about something that funny.

Not sure what everyone in here has against Serena Williams though. I guess you're all just scared of physically fit black women who could probably bench press you.

I'd only go after a lady like Serena if I were as fit as she was, cos a lady like that will require some serious stamina to keep up with. I would not fear such a challenge, I'd relish it.

And I'm not seeing the shaved gorilla thing, must just be me.

OT: it is a pretty shameless advert though, and would probably have been better served by involving more tennis stars playing the game in a lounge setting. So, good idea, but very poorly executed.

To me, no, Serena Williams probably wouldn't be the FIRST choice in any poll, but she looks just fine to me. As for the racism thing, no, of course you can comment on her looks without being racist, however... taking the 'gorilla' angle, after monkey references have been used in racism for decades, probably isn't the best route to take.

Seems we're picking apart the company for being sexist, and the ad is bloody awful, crowbarring sexuality in where it just is't meant to fit. Then we're queueing up to take a pop at the looks of a successful, skilled woman who's a role model to kids. Part of that of course I put down to the fact that if you're in any famous, you can't dare leave the house without the services of a hairstylist and makeup artist or you're in the papers looking 'dishevelled' or 'rushed' or some other euphenism for 'having more important things in your life than your own reflection'. Hell, maybe she took the part for a chance to look glamourous and exciting for a change.

Just seems we rarely have a pop at the looks of guys so much. Tiger Woods looks like an average geek to me, and what's more, he's obsessed with golf! Think we all know the reason he was getting so much action offered to him. :) Of course, it's easier on the male side of things because women are generally attracted to a larger, stronger, athletic body, rather than with women, where being athletic or toned can hit a point where it's too much for most.

Kinda a tangent to the main article, but 'ugly' and 'shaved ape' seem harsh when I don't think she'd look outta place on an MTV video now, but then it is the internet, and it's a breeding ground for negativity.
