Why do you think I mentioned bands like Iron Maiden... Clearly I am not "concluding that Black Metal, Death Metal, and all the shitty metal/death/whatever-core" I was stating that said genre's are terrible. I accept that there may be good metal bands out ther today but I don't care to find them as I grew out of metal and into different genre's.
The message I took away from your original post was "Metal was cool back in the early heydey and now all of it is crap", where "all of it" means enough that finding decent bands is the exception, rather than the rule (like how rap is now and will be for the forseeable future). The subtext to that subtext is the suggestion that most of those 'exceptions' would just be bands that have been around since 'metal was actually good' and therefore 'don't count'.

Which is flat out wrong - music like Maiden's never stopped being made [small](the music press snidely refers to Europe's Power Metal revival as if Europe had ever actually stopped making Power Metal)[/small] and remains popular throughout those parts of the world that are not America or Great Britain. The angry noise? You have to look significantly harder for that, because in what is already an underground genre, that's the underground.

It's highly ironic that Metal's least commercial sub-genres somehow became the 'face' of the genre as a whole, and now lead to the far more prevalent good bands getting dismissed as outliers in a sea of noisy crap. Most metal is good, but the parts we both think are terrible are what get all the attention (much easier to mock I suppose).
I agree with most of this post. The one thing I have against it is that(in my area at least)most people don't even know Black/Folk/Death/Power/Symphonic metal exists. They either hear a Slipknot,Metallica or Limp Bizkit song and assume that that's metal. So essentially Slipknot are in fact the face of metal (even though they shouldn't be.)

Which is understandable since these people (aka normal people) wouldn't look further into Metal, hence the lack of knowledge, hence the pointless hollow rants.

One of my mates used to try to tell me that Fallout Boy aren't emo. I had a good chuckle at that one.
They aren't actually emo. Not in the original sense of the word. Emo comes from Emotionally charged hardcore punk-rock, a genre that's now pretty much extinct save for a couple of bands like Jimmy Eat World [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf2S-KeRVJ4]. It's just that some clever journalist at one point saw a couple of parallels between the original emo and bands like Fallout Boy and dropped the term in a review. Since then the meaning of the word has been completely warped and twisted.

I personally don't mind using the word emo in the sense people use it nowadays, as it is certainly a stereotype a lot of youngsters try to live up to. That just doesn't change the fact that the word originally came from a completely different source. Which causes a lot of facepalms from my behalf at people who don't know this tidbit of information. I it is in a similar way to how some people call goths "gothics".

That the songs from Glee are original. Unfortunately i do know people who seem to know so little about music they didn't realise Jump from glee was a Van Halen cover... Oh it makes my blood boil. Glee? Absolute fucking dispair more like.
I can do you one better. My roommate last year thought Rock Lobster was from Family Guy.

The show that's, like, 99% referential humor.
Next they will be thinking that Surfing bird by the trashmen is from family guy too.... I'm just messin, but that is bad... Everyone had matching towels!

You think THAT'S bad? Somebody asked me who Black Sabbath were, and why they'd covered the Jonas Brothers' song, 'Paranoid'!
Oh. Dear. God. You have to be kidding, right? Please be kidding!
Thankfully, the person was an idiot (evident already, hm?); if the song by the anus brothers had actually been Sabbath's Paranoid, I would have cracked skulls. As it is, they only used the title, which is bad enough. Don't listen to it, though; it really is grade-a shit.

Always glad to do my part for shits and giggles; like the time I rickrolled an entire school student body and faculty, and then made them lose THE GAME less than a minute later.

The main one is that people seem to think that 'genre X is just noise' and that certain genres they hate are objectively bad. Music taste is very subjective; I hate Metal, but I'm not going to say that it isn't music, because I'm not stupid.

Perhaps. But they are far-enough apart that you can't really qualify Rap as Hip-Hop but Hip-hop as rap.

Like a square is a rectangle but a rectangle might not be a square.

Anyway, is there rap out there that is acually bareable to listen to? Because I have yet to find anything.

That death metal=noise. That is not true at all. It takes an insane amount of talent to play death metal. I sure as hell can't play most of Dark Tranquillity's stuff, or Morbid Angel, or Death, or Possessed. Every death metal band I listen to is made up of a group of talented musicians, and it definitely isn't noise.

When people think that music they don't like isn't music. It's music, it's just not your kind of music.

I hate when people put off all rap music as about guns and hookers and stuff. In fact, most of the rap I listen to is the exact opposite. Like [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVKl7n7uIe0&feature=fvw] this. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-j_l7SkYCc]

Well i have a few...

Rap is crap: No, rap is not crap. What is on the radio is not all the rap in the world, stop being so closed minded and go and listen to some of the other stuff, pay attention to the lyrics and then maybe you will understand why it is so loved.

Punk is Dead: Not dead, but it is dying. Most of the current 'punk' bands are moving away from the genre and are creating something else. While this isn't a bad thing it isn't exactly punk. Sure it still has influences from punk, but it is distinctly different. After all if all metal bands where the same as Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden think of all the wonderful stuff we would miss out on.

That Techno is used to describe all Electronic Music.

Techno is actually a genre of Electronic Music.

Of course no one cares and most don't consider it music at all. Even I say "If it sounds different it's probably a completely different genre" with how many sub-genres there are. And you know you've been listening to too much when you can tell who made the song just by listening to it.

Really, I listen exclusively to Electronic Music. Mostly Happy Hardcore, but Hardstyle, Gabber, Hardscape, and Schranz have some good tracks to them.

People that classify "Metal" as "Noise"

Every type of music takes at least some form of musical talent...

Heck, I'm very very picky with what I listen to, but to ignorantly say that it's not music just shows that you don't have the slightest clue in what goes on behind the scenes.

I myself don't like rap, but I know it takes some talent to produce. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not music. Opinions are not facts :)
No, rap takes no talent, I can sit down and write a poem about shooting people and getting drunk that is overly repetitive, add some generic rhythmic beats and Viola I god damn emenim. I also think that most metal music is stupid, just guttural howling about satan or whatever, honestly I can't even understand the fucks.
Mmmk, prove it. Let's hear your poetry.
