the mario games are sexist, they always have the princess getting captured and not being able to do anything about it until mario has to save her

Except in 'Super Princess Peach' in which the princess is the main character and has to save Mario from Bowser

The worst thing is when they make 'Girl Gamer' magazines that market stupid, badly designed games to the female population because they think we don't want to play a good FPS or RPG, we'd rather play something to do with dancing or cooking, right?
No. Just no.
This is the most sexist thing that is out there in gaming. I would add more too it (and I'm sorry I slaughtered your post) but you covered it beautifully. Separating out female gamers from male gamers is inherently sexist. Anybody remember how that whole "separate but equal" thing worked out?

What is offensively sexist these days really? Most gamers seem to think that breasts make a game offensive but are most women really offended by breasts? That would make certain practicalities in their lives sort of hard to manage.
As a female, I can say that breasts don't offend me. It's just human anatomy to me...
Sexist is like going back 5 centuries and making women worthless except to produce children.

basically what id put it down to is say atleast 90% of gamers are male, the games are going to be targeted more towards men hence they'll have the buff good looking hero guy for you and a spunky, dangerous yet sensual female to accompany you, it just makes more sense marketing wise
The sex of gamers is not 90% male, 10% female. It is actually a much closer divide.
"Lisa Sikora, of Microsoft's Casual Games division, says women make up 70 percent of their players -- up from 20 percent in 1996." That was written in 2006.
The numbers are much closer than before, being something like 54% male and 46% female. I can't find a solid number, but there are more and more females stepping up and grabbing a controller or a keyboard.

Do not say that males should get games directed at only them. Your not the only sex playing those games.

Being female I feel that I should be outraged by every sexist thing in gaming.

...I'm not.

Okay, why do we female always end up as the sidekick? The majority of games have a female sidekick, where's the male sidekick to the female lead?
Honestly, it doesn't really bother me.

Women are NOT an item gaming wise, i.e. games where you marry, etc. Or at least, they shouldn't be.
But hey, men what do you think of us as? Other than pleasure objects? ;)
(note my sarcasm)
Sarcasm noted. Also note the "paperboy" under your name. THE ESCAPIST IS SEXIST. No, really, it is.

Saints Row 2 had the ability to put stripper poles in your cribs. This plays up the 'gangsta' lifestyle stereotype in general, which is historically very sexist towards women. Can't I be rich and successful without half naked sluts roaming around my apartment in nothing but a thong?
Interesting fact. Those stripper poles were optional. You didn't need to put them in, therefore, you clearly put them there because you wanted them there. Just sayin'. I put them there 'cos I wanted my homies to be respectin' me, aight?

Hmm, sexism in games... Uhhh... In Sonic, the guys were all the colours of the rainbow, but all the girls were pink?
That's just amy, rouge has white fur, blaze is purple, cream is... well cream.

Let's see... where have games been sexist... okay... almost every game to ever have a female character is sexist in some way. A better question would be what game has a female character of importance and is still not sexist?

This, pretty much.

What really ticks me off though, is that games marketed for girls generally involve socializing them towards "proper" female roles. Think about it, Imagine: Make-up Artist, Imagine: Cook, Imagine: Babysitter, Imagine: Designer.

Where's my Imagine: Paleontologist, or Imagine: Molecular Biologist?

Making games for girls, and games for "everyone else" is inherently sexist.

That's more an argument of the industry rather than a game itself, and I can't think of any real examples of sexism in a game. However the fact that most female characters are characterized as damsel in distress or raging ***** gets really, really old.

You're talking about casual gaming - we're not.

And actually it's 60/40, says this [http://www.marketingcharts.com/interactive/women-comprise-40-of-us-gamers-26-of-whom-are-over-age-50-5327/] survey.

My mom has played casual games. She gets headaches from anything close to mainstream.

The simple fact is, mainstream and hardcore gamers are predominantly male, and until this changes, the intelligent marketers will make games for their target market; hardcore games will generally be for males, casual games for females.

It's not sexism, it's economics.

If you have a problem with it, make a hardcore game for your target audience. That's how everyone else makes a difference in the gaming world.

does created sexism count? my story:

I remember playing sims 2 and just for shits, decided to connect the bedroom and kitchen together, all other doors going in and out were male bathroom doors (so only dudes can walk through) my wife did 5 things: clean, make dinner, fuck, piss on the floor, and sleep... it was glorious.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't look for partners inside the gaming world at all. I just find it pretty funny when guys go, "Oh, I know, let's play -insert well known game here-. I'll go easy on you!" And then get their ass handed to them. Call it cruel, but I've never once warned someone when they've asked me to play a game assuming I'm going to be bad because I'm female.
That's something I still don't really understand, why male gamers would still do that in this day and age. I reckon that gamers in general are usually a bit more progressive than average people, yet male gamers still look at girl gamers like that. I'd never go easy on a girl, if anything I enjoy playing competitively with a girl, [small]and a part of me finds it even more fun to gets his ass handed to me by a girl...[/small]

Don't forget all the guys (except Eggman) wear gloves, shoes, and nothing else, and all the girls have to be fully clothed (except Shade), also Amy, the sole female hedgehog, is the only one not allowed to go Super (Sonic, Shadow and even Silver get too, but not Amy.). Also none of their strong leads are female, they're extras at best, Amy is a ditzy fangirl, Rouge is an amoral spy, and Cream is pretty much a minor character.

So yeah, Sonic Team can be considered sexist in that extent.

I really don't pay much attention to this. Whether it's the gamer demographic or gameplay elements, reading sexual bigotry into entertainment things is probably one of the greatest exaggerations of all. If a female lead is weaker than a male, the whole script was probably bad anyway. If a female character is rediculously sexy, pretty or busty, it's for no purpose other than spectacle.
A lot of people point at Team Ninja as sexist for their overly sexified female characters. Okay sure, DoAX is an all-out sex-athon with the cheap excuse of "beach resort" for the females to walk around bikini-clad for the viewers' pleasure, and the six-axis breast jiggling thing is just silly. But hey, it's all for spectacle, nothing more. If they really were sexist, Momiji from the Ninja Gaiden series wouldn't have a decent story arc. Sure, she wound up as a damsel in her first appearance, but she at least tried to do something about it, something a certain blonde bimbo we all know so well should try once in a while.

You know, most games. Yeah, females are pictured the way they are in most ads, in sexy poses with a lot of skin. I'm not complaining, just making an observation.

"Super Princess Peach?"

But they give Princess Peach very sexist powers. Mario uses jumping ability, fireballs, invincibility, classic game powers. Peach uses violent mood swings to progress, so bascially uses PMS power.
