"...Beautiful day, hot as all hell but nice regardless."
"Good enough for some Beatles, Jim?"
"Damn fine enough for some Beatles, Tim. This is KYGB rock, keeping your city musical. All You Need Is Love."
A stream of golden light struggled to break through the blinds that barricaded the room from the outside world. The radio alarm-clock gently gave way to the soft seventies quartet, a calming melody that made Nathan turn his head the other way.
Everything felt wrong. Although he slept well into the morning or even afternoons, he always felt tired. The drinking probably didn't help. With a heavy sigh, he peeked over his pillow to the calendar on his wall.
It had been three days since the party. His life since had been one of isolation; one third sleeping, another drinking, and the rest sweating away the summer heat in the backyard. Summer was usually his favourite season, but no longer. The stifling hot muffled his mouth and tightened his collar, an irremovable infliction that cold showers just couldn't remedy. Even the growing outside pressures were beginning to envelop and suffocate his mind.
Grudgingly, he rose from the mess of white sheets on his bed, his athletic body bare but for a pair of boxers. Scratching at the grown brown hair that surrounded his mouth and jaw, he stumbled across the room toward a metal-and-glass desk. His Blackberry sat limply, with a screaming
26 MESSAGES to greet him. Though the device was on, he hadn't touched it in days. Funny- plenty of texts, but not a single person had come to his door. He stroked the clear screen hesitantly, but turned away instead.
Breakfast... And beer.
