Lyla's phone vibrated again, making her jump, again. She read Jenna's text, immediately answering it afterwards.

Code:
It's a small cafe in the northern part of town. It's called Mari's Cafe. I'll see you guys there.

Reading Lyla's reply, Jenna looked back to Micah and said, "Apparently Lyla and Josh are gonna be at Mari's Cafe, somewhere north of here." She tucked her phone back in her bag and ran a hand through her hair, waiting patiently for Micah to finish up.

Jenna wondered if Lyla wanted to talk about Josh, and the fact that they were dating. That might be it. She knew there were huge differences between the two couples; Jenna had practically thrown herself at Micah after the conversation with Nate, and she figured Lyla to be the kind of girl who was sensible about being in a relationship with someone. Also, Josh was a newcomer to the group, while Jenna and Micah had been friends since ninth grade.

"Alright, Jen." Micah said, closing his laptop. "I was waiting on you, anyway."

He got up and walked into the kitchenette and opened one of the cabinets, pulling out a small sack of pet food. He poured some food into Sable's bowl, and put the bag back. He grabbed his stuff from the table, and grabbed his keys as well.

"Alright, ready when you are, hun." He said to Jenna.

"All righty then," Jenna said cheerfully, linking her arm into Micah's. The two of them left the apartment, and Micah locked up behind him. An idea came to Jenna as they left: it could possibly be beneficial to their relationship. But then, there was always the possibility of it backfiring. Still, Jenna couldn't help but speak her mind.

"Um, Micah..." Jenna started, unsure how to put her question into words. "Would it be a problem for you... Oh, never mind." She could ask him later, once the double-date was over.

"Changed your mind?" Micah asked when Jenna retracted her question. "Come on then... You said Mari's Cafe, right? I've been there once... Their cheesecake is really good."

Micah and Jenna got down to his car, and he started it up and revved the engine.

"It's in north-side, right? Alright, let's get going. Buckle up, hun." Micah said, buckling himself in and adjusting his rear-view mirror before beginning the drive.

"Oh, it wasn't about the cafe," Jenna answered. She mentally berated herself for bringing it up. It was best discussed later. She tried her best to forget about it until later, instead absorbing herself in smaller details like the speed at which Micah drove, and occasionally adjusting the strap of her belt to fit comfortably across her body. Maybe Micah could teach her to drive a car sometime... which reminded her of the accident Michelle had been in earlier. A perfect distraction.

Jenna pulled her phone out again and sent a short message to her brother:

Have you been to check on Michelle yet? How's she doing?

Lyla and Josh drove towards the cafe, both still feeling a bit awkward after their last conversation.

I'm such an idiot.. I should have just kept my mouth shut and left it at that. But how was I supposed to know he was going to do that? Lyla took a deep breath in and sighed, looking forward to the private conversation she would have with Jenna later on.

Right, until then I should just enjoy myself.

Josh led Lyla into the cafe' where he ordered himself a small black coffee and waited for Lyla to order so he could pay. He was still feeling terrible about the situation that he had put Lyla in. He was just furious that something could be more important to her parents, then her. He didn't care about being snubbed by her parents, he'd had to have dealt with it before, but for a parent to snub her own daughter, that got his blood boiling. He put it aside though, today was about making sure they had a good time.

Micah pulled up to Mari's Cafe and parked his car, leaving his windows open a crack so that air could circulate. He and Jenna got out of the car and walked inside the cool air-conditioned building. Micah had been here a few times before, but during those times it was loaded with college students. Now that the summer had come, more than half of the students had gone back home.

"There they are." Micah said, pointing out Josh and Lyla, and walking over to them. "Hey guys."

Lyla ordered a glass of water and spotted Jenna and Micah as they walked over to the table. "Hi guys! How are you?"

The group had a small table near the entrance, in clear view of the passerbys out front.

"We're doing pretty good, Lyla." Micah said as they approached. He gave Lyla a hug, and put his sunglasses down on the table. "I'll be right back... I'm gonna get something delicious and bad for me... Do either of you girls want me to get you something?"

Jenna followed Micah to join up with the others at their table, and gave Lyla a brief hug as well. As she did so, she pondered Micah's words. "Pretty good" was one way of looking at it, considering the minor issue they had shared earlier. A look of distaste crossed Jenna's face for a split-second as she forced the memory out of her mind for the moment.

"Um... could you get me a chocolate thickshake, thanks?" she asked Micah in answer to his question.

Josh sipped his coffee and looked as Micah and Jenna joined them. He watched as they both hugged Lyla and Micah went to order their drinks. It was strange though, he could have sworn that he saw a look of quick distaste cross over Jenna's face before she sat down. It confused him and he made a note to watch her, maybe it was something he did. He moved over into Lyla's side of the table so that Jenna and Micah could be beside each other.

"Sure thing, Jen." Micah responded to Jenna's request. He walked up to the counter, and began eying the delicious desserts in the display case with an appetite. He looked up at the girl behind the counter, and made his order. "Hi, can I get a chocolate shake, a slice of the Oreo cheesecake, and... a medium coffee, with vanilla and caramel flavor shots, please."

As they people behind the counter gathered his order, Micah pulled out a few cash bills and paid the tab. He took his items from the cashier, and walked back over to the table where Josh was sitting next to Lyla, sipping a coffee.

"Here's your shake, Jen." Micah said, handing over her shake before sitting down next to her. "So, how're you guys getting along? You do anything fun last night?"

Fun Josh though, remembering what he had been like the previous night, "Fun is one way of putting it I suppose," he said trying to laugh it off.

"Well, that's good." Micah smiled as Josh laughed. "I'm glad you're adjusting to our little college town, Josh."

Micah took a bite out of his cheesecake, and sipped on his coffee slowly.

"So, do you guys know what movies you might want to see?" Micah asked his friends. "Despite this being the Summer, there are supposedly some alright ones out."

"I was wondering if maybe that new one with the Guy with the Seven evil Exes," Josh said with a smile, "It looks like a real riot."

He wrapped his arm around Lyla, "The Hell with seven Exes though, I'd go through a million for this girl."

Jenna giggled at Josh's statement, wondering how Lyla would take it. She took a fairly long drink from her shake, twitching slightly at the cold semi-frozen liquid hitting her teeth. "Here's hoping you don't have to, eh?" she said. "Girls like us are a rare commodity round here, am I right, Lyla?"

Lyla blushed furiously at Josh's comment, taking a sip of her water to try and cover up her reddened cheeks.

"Yes, you are", Lyla said to Jenna. She looked at Josh and Micah, a small smile on her lips. "So you guys had better treat us appropriately. So what movie should we see? The one that Josh was just talking about sounded pretty good."

"Don't worry, I know how to treat people." Micah responded to Lyla after a couple bites of the cheesecake. "Especially such lovely ladies as you two are. That movie sounds fine, I guess. I haven't seen too many trailers for it, though, so I'll stay skeptical."

Micah sipped from his coffee, almost scalding himself, but drinking it anyway. He saw Lyla blush at Josh's comment, and he smiled at his friend's embarressment.

"Hmm... Which movie theater is closest to here?" Micah asked the group.
