Shirtless men with no chest hair, what's up with that?

I'm a lady and I like a man with a bit of hair, otherwise he just looks like a child and that's pretty creepy...

I didn't realise that it was really an issue. I have very little hair on my upper body at all (apart from my head). What little there is on my chest is barely even visible anyway

In terms of people shaving, I'll agree with other posters that have said that it's just a cultural thing at the moment

Hair removal isn't a new thing. Julius Caesar used to have every hair plucked from his body, and that was 2000-odd years ago. Shaving suddenly sounds easier doesn't it? Speaking as a 29yo woman, I find that a waxed/clean shaven male chest just looks cleaner/more hygienic. Not that that's strictly true, but I reckon it's hooked into some evolutionary psychological thing. Sounds weird I know, but if you consider that it is body hair that traps the sweat that bacteria then feed on and create wicked BO, which is often associated with poor hygiene and is very off-putting.

Also, probably the more important consideration, my skin is pretty sensitive, so you can imagine that I'm none to fond of something that feels like a wire brush against my chest...

The Jacob/Edward thing makes me feel slightly nauseaus. Liking a lack of hair has nothing to do with liking boys. Eaagh!
Seeing this aversion to chest hair in some posts in this thread is surprising...

I have a hairy chest and a trail and i've never had a woman complain or recoil away from me because of it. I've never heard it called my best feature either mind you, but its never been an issue.

As for sensitive skin and wirey bushy chest hair... i don't know what kind if hairy men you've been with but Chest hair (or mine at least, can't speak for other men) has never left stubble rash or anything like that, as hair goes its quite soft. However it also may be a length thing as well, When i have a beard it needs at least 2 or 3 weeks growth before its comfortable enough for a girl to kiss.

Each to their own of course, if you don't like chest hair then you don't like chest hair. Nothing wrong with personal preferences.

True, my preference is none, but like I sorta said in a later post than the one quoted, I'm OK if guys are happy with their own chest hair. I just think the criticism of guys that don't have any is unnecessary and I don't like that it's OK for guys to complain about womens' body hair but not vice versa.

"Wire-brush" was a bit of an exaggeration on my part but I do get beard-rash very easily. Re chest hair, the friction of hair, even soft hair, against my hairless skin is a bit uncomfortable. Nothing unusual about the guys. Dated an almost completely hairless (natural) guy once. I preferred it. It felt nicer.

Btw, my preference may be no hair but my husband has a hairy chest and shoulders. He tends to ask me to wax or shave his shoulders regularly because he hates it, and even asked me to wax his chest a couple of times, but his chest hair kept growing back almost completely within a week so he gave up. Fair enough. I'm not going to let a hairy chest determine my relationships. Hell, I married him with it :)

I can only assume that both genders find nipples attractive on (predominantly) the other gender, body hair obscures the nipples, so it was decided against for audience purposes.

I don't find it so wierd when it supposed to be younger people ie 20s but when it is much older like 30s and 40s in movies I find it wierd if they don't. Although I probably have more hair on my chest than everyone in my year put together so I am kinda biased.

This may seem abit hypocritical of me, but I recently came to notice that in numerous videos and photos I see, most men I see shirtless have absolutely no hair on their torso, none.

What's up with that? I'm legally an adult in the US and I got a buttload of hair on my chest, I'm serious.

Well, some hairless-chested people I can understand if they have tattoos or something, but I don't know why I find it so suddenly wierd when I see this on people and another wierd thing, is that everytime I see a hairless shirtless male, I suddenly think Wallabee Beetles from Codename: Kids Next Door, probubly becuase of how in Deviantart how he has probubly enough fanart pics of him shirtless to shame Edward from Twilight (oooh, edgy!), and yet he's 10 years old (though some pics show him being older), makes me worry quite abit.

But anyway, what's up actors have no hair on their chests whenever they appear shirtless?
Maybe it's because the general manliness of the world populace has been on the decline. Back in the dorms (college made me stay there a year before I could move off-campus) I had three roommates, all of whom were fully developed adult males, none of whom could grow a beard.

I sport a full beard and a luxurious rug of chest hair. I have realized that I am in the minority less because of general style and more because males seem to be increasing incapable of growing decent facial and body hair. Therefore, actors would also become less hairy as does the general population. This lack of hairiness among celebrities further increases this problem as it encourage hairy men to shave and hairless men to procreate more frequently. This artificial selection has probably produced a surge in hairlessness among the general male populace further accentuating the problem.

Not that I have a problem with hairless gentlemen, just know that when the bombs fall and nuclear winter envelops the globe I'll be a bit warmer than the lot of you.

It's actually Jacob who appears topless in the Twilight films, not Edward. You've just been bamboozled. ...Or something.

Probably because it's not attractive. Plus most men that appear topless in films are either for the women to ogle or get greased up and have shiny torsos. ...Plus chest hair can look ugly. :p
no Edward is shirtless in the second movie.
<spoiler=Yes, I just had to google that. I hate you>http://www.profoundstupidity.net/uploaded_images/edward-shirtless-no-dots-734602.jpg
P.S Do girls find this guy attractive? I mean I always liked pale skin but dear god, that just looks dead.
Attention fans of twilight... WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR STANDARDS!?!?
I once actually talked to a twi-girl. I know, scary. But she said that when he took off his shirt the whole theater screamed in disgust. So apparently they do have some standards.

OT: I don't have chest hair and don't want any. I don't think it looks good.

I'm a 20 year old Russian guy. I have really hairy legs, fairly hairy arms, and very little hair on my chest. I'm not quite sure why it worked out that way.
Man, I'm the same way. I feel like a mutant or something with such hairy legs, and less hairy arms, but an empty chest.

I rely on the social order to not have body hair to make money!

if guys expect women to have their body hair removed then we can expect dudes to have to remove body hair. Guys are starting to take care of themselves more and body hair gives off the impression that I do not take care of myself.

up until the 1920's if you were pale, it showed how rich you were because you did not need to work out in the fields. coco chanel got a tan on holiday and then it was popular for people to get a tan.
also being really pale means you have less chance of getting melanoma.
so to be honest it is good that this belief that being tanned is good for everyone health.

Yeah, apparently hairy chests are ugly and therefore no models or actors will have them unless they play an 'ugly' role. It's just how things are really; like how fat used to be sexy and now it isn't.

I have no idea how some people can not grow hair on their chest. I've had hair growing there for years, and I'm only 20. Maybe I'm just more masculine than the rest of you (pff, yeah right).
