Shirtless men with no chest hair, what's up with that?

I have very little just because very little grows, nothing to do with shaving or waxing, it's a bit weird though, I have plenty on my legs and.. other.. areas... but I could probably count the hairs on my chest on 2 hands... Maybe I should shave for what little there is there... >.< But yeah, I digress... Not every gets a huge thick bush, I think its due to sexual selection, less and less people are getting more body hair, maybe and the ones that are shave or wax it. Not that I'm complaining, I certainly prefer it that way... To much hair isn't my thing really.

My body hair is just dumb. My facial hair is almost exactly like Joe Dirt, it just chooses where to grow and where not to. The hair on my legs is so fine it looks like there isn't any, and my arms are almost black.

And yet my chest is struggling to grow any hair. It's like I'm 12.

This is because women these days are attracted to boys, not men. They want boys who are rash and spontaneous, not men who are calm and collected. Boys don't have hair on their chest, and men do. That's how it works. Rewind thirty years, women thought the exact opposite; look at james bond then and now.

Let me put it this way; is a man that likes a woman to shave her genetalia a pedophile? No. It's an aesthetic thing. I'm a woman who prefers men who aren't very hairy. I find it more attractive, but that doesn't mean I'm looking for prepubescent men, as you are implying. I actually like guys that are on the burlier side. But to me, chest hair is a turn off. I'd rather run my hand along smooth skin than wiry hair. And if, as a woman, I'm expected to shave my legs and underarms, why can't I ask a man to shave his chest?

First off...holy shit, THAT is the giant statue from the auction house in Hellboy 2! Now that's out of my system.

One word: ew! I can't imagine ever finding anyone fat sexy. Like, at all. Shallow of me, perhaps. But flab is never an attractive feature on somebody.
Fat can be sexy, it's all about how the shape forms on someone.
For instance, I've seen some fat girls which... how should I say this... the fat went to the right places, for me to appreciate it.

Because when you're ripped, usually hair doesnt grow, and it looks disturbing if you have a shag rug just sitting on your chest. And some people just like to show off. I didnt know it was a requirement that you HAD to
A) Be ripped
B) Have chest hair
to walk around shirtless.

Personally, I dont have a lot of chest hair. the stuff I do have is mainly this really short fine hairon my upper chest (with some longer, darker hair around the nip), and then that felt like hair that goes down the belly and gives the swirl at the button. Its never bothered me (or anyone else that I know of) to go around without a shirt (except for the scar I have on my back).

its aesthetically pleasing to the eye, most shirtles actors shave or whatever because they want to show muscle, in most cases at least, also its a recent trend in movies,

(holly S%&T DO NOT google "hairy guys in movies" without safe search ON, PASS THE BRAIN BLEACH)

the "chest hair" is more common on older movies here is an example

Agreed, an example of someone not afraid to sport chest hair all the time. I can understand if you naturally don't grow any chest hair or so little that it looks silly to leave, but anyone who shaves off a good chest rug I can't help but judge. I've never felt uncomfortable or less attractive for having chest hair...maybe thats just me.

Generation of wusses?

All that matters is physical fitness and your personality. You can be bald (better shave that head, though) or rock the chest hair all you like (within reason...), and it'll all work out with the ladies (or men) in the end. You won't book a lot of ad space, but 99% of the guys boasting "naturally hairless, bro!" don't have the cheekbones for modeling anyways.

It is refreshing, in a twisted and vindictive way, to see men struggle with media-induced beauty standards.

Not that that's strictly true, but I reckon it's hooked into some evolutionary psychological thing. Sounds weird I know, but if you consider that it is body hair that traps the sweat that bacteria then feed on and create wicked BO, which is often associated with poor hygiene and is very off-putting.

Also, probably the more important consideration, my skin is pretty sensitive, so you can imagine that I'm none to fond of something that feels like a wire brush against my chest...
I doubt it's strongly (if at all) affected by Darwinian evolution. The hairless trend for men (and female genitalia) is pretty darn recent to the West, and is localized as a trend to Western culture. Many cultures have kept their body preferences. There's also the matter of time and influence. Body hair isn't a big deal for most people, it's like earlobes. People might have preferences for earlobe genetics (attached, please) but those who don't measure up are hardly going to be left without a mate for that reason alone.

It's much more likely to be a social fad, like tanning or non-religious male circumcision in the U.S. Hardly the strangest body fad and certainly not the last.

Possibly it's a manifestation of simplistic modernism being applied to human?

Or increasing media exposure of East Asian men in the West. [dies laughing from the hilarity of such a suggestion]

Anyone who thinks that men have become unilaterally "feminized" by media should check out how much more muscle is expected of men in commercial advertising.

This may seem abit hypocritical of me, but I recently came to notice that in numerous videos and photos I see, most men I see shirtless have absolutely no hair on their torso, none.

What's up with that? I'm legally an adult in the US and I got a buttload of hair on my chest, I'm serious.

Well, some hairless-chested people I can understand if they have tattoos or something, but I don't know why I find it so suddenly wierd when I see this on people and another wierd thing, is that everytime I see a hairless shirtless male, I suddenly think Wallabee Beetles from Codename: Kids Next Door, probubly becuase of how in Deviantart how he has probubly enough fanart pics of him shirtless to shame Edward from Twilight (oooh, edgy!), and yet he's 10 years old (though some pics show him being older), makes me worry quite abit.

But anyway, what's up actors have no hair on their chests whenever they appear shirtless?
This happens to them...

XD i was lmao at that

It's actually Jacob who appears topless in the Twilight films, not Edward. You've just been bamboozled. ...Or something.

Probably because it's not attractive. Plus most men that appear topless in films are either for the women to ogle or get greased up and have shiny torsos. ...Plus chest hair can look ugly. :p
no Edward is shirtless in the second movie.
<spoiler=Yes, I just had to google that. I hate you>http://www.profoundstupidity.net/uploaded_images/edward-shirtless-no-dots-734602.jpg
P.S Do girls find this guy attractive? I mean I always liked pale skin but dear god, that just looks dead.
Attention fans of twilight...
Well he is meant to be undead and all.... Just Sayin.
i dated a twilight fan once
and i have a very camp friend in the same party

apparantly he is made of diamond

i thoght that it was just petty
in fact my thoughts on the matter are summed up pretty nicely by the key of awesome

OT: its individual diffrences
doesn't help that the media pippetuate the idea that body hair is weird just like the idea that beards are evil

if you want another factor its porn
sounds rediculous but so does "lezbiens r so hawt"

im hairy enough to put most apes to shame
noone seems to mind aside annoying scene kids

personally i don't like even my own body hair
i get a very odd feeling about it
i don't think its wrong to have body hair
i just personally don't like it

Seems very rare to see anyone with hair on their chest here, actually. I knew a couple of guys who used to shave it off though, because they thought it was ugly and uncomfortable.

Girls shave all the time, it appears to be demanded of them, so why can't men be expected to groom themselves a bit too??

My current girlfriend hates the men portrayed in ads nowadays. She says they look like women, and I agree.

She then gets turned on by playing with my chest hair and beard. o.o
I second this completely. Those boys in the ads may be aimed at teengirls, but a man has some hair. On arms, legs, chest and face. (last part was quoting my gf, only that she added long hair on the head)

I never saw a girl shave her chest...but yes i guess it would be weird if it was all hairy.
Everything else is not part of the discussion here. Chest hair, as all body hair, can be trimmed and maintained in a clean and nice fashion.

I prefer less hair on guys. I'm not really gonna be bothered either way, but I definitely think it's more aesthetically pleasing.

But it's all down to personal taste. I guess advertisers are just trying to appeal to a wider market range.

Like girls with shaved pussies or whatever.

The man looks alright, but the girl looks pregnant o_O

anyway, I disagree with it being a fad, I see it as more a result of the loosening of traditional gender roles. Not long ago it used to be (and widely still is) that you weren't manly if you didn't have a hairy chest, real men were big burly motherfuckers covered in hair and only queers shaved their chest. Now to a degree it is socially tolerable for men to shave if they want. it's still not that widely accepted though as demonstrated by the op or someone from the front page (OMG hairless men look like wominnz!)
The man is rather "scrawny" by today's standards of male aesthetics (especially to other men). As I've stated before, the whole "real men = big" is also a rather new thing. I personally blame the Brawny Man.

I think you're failing to account for eurocentrism in your analysis. Your second statement should have a large "in the West" qualifier. The genes for male chest hair are absent or severely limited in some ethnic groups, and similarly absent in those groups' constructs of masculinity.

Even then, I wouldn't consider it as part of a loosening of gender roles. Changing yes, but not loosening. While men are allowed to be less hairy, they're expected to be more muscular. And as others have suggested, they're especially allowed to be less hairy the more muscular they are.

I'm a 20 year old Russian guy. I have really hairy legs, fairly hairy arms, and very little hair on my chest. I'm not quite sure why it worked out that way.
I'm a 16 year old Ukrainian guy. Pretty much the same situation here.
