Voted and spoiled my ballot for a race that will be GOP by at least 10 points.
Voted to get recreational cannabis. Hoping that passes. For clarity, I've never used it myself, medically or recreationally. I just hope it passes because I disagree with it being illegal.

Remember, a vote for federally legalized weed is a vote for Monsanto Roundup Ready™ GMO Cannabis, and Phillip Morris-owned marijuana cigarette brands laced with extra addictive chemicals and carcinogenic preservatives. And dare we forget, the punitive FDA regulations levied against marijuana growers and dispensaries only major corporations will have the funding and connections to evade. Not to mention the invariable lawsuits those major corporations will file against home/small-scale growers as well as "artisanal" dispensaries, as anti-competitive business strategies which the government will happily enable.

And we'll be right back to pretending crack and heroin are the "black" problems to justify Jim Crow 2.0 and mass incarceration.

God, how I freaking love pointing out to libertarians, potheads, and hippies alike their precious counter-cultural bullshit will get Walmart'ed right the fuck out of existence practically the nanosecond the federal prohibition on weed ends.

This is a huge win for democracy, his opponent Doug was the poster child for this year's Trump candidates. I am so God damn relieved.

Anyway we still have to see if Fetterman can beat Dr Oz but his chances are looking decent.

Still early, but it's looking like it is in fact a red wave overall, but may come down to wires that result in an overall push. So far at least, the two biggest takeaways is that Trump candidates have been underperforming and that ballot initiatives (direct democracy, of course) are showing just how out of step both parties are with the people, but especially republicans. Republicans will probably see tonight as a mandate, but it really won't be. Tonight is an indictment of democrats and just how useless they are.

Of course everything could change and I can just be plain wrong, it's still early :V

Yeah that 2 girls 1 cup joke I made up-thread isn't so much "joke" as "predestination" now is it.

Montana only had two statewide ballot initiatives:
A) Constitutional amendment to require cops to get search warrants for electronic communications and information (kind of a shoe-in, legally already required but nice to get in the constitution just in case our State Supreme Court elections go wonky)
B) Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, aka, "it doesn't matter if your aborted fetus or mortally fucked up child is in horrific pain, the hospital has to keep it alive as long as possible at great personal expense or else" (Solution in search of a problem, infanticide is already illegal)

Went straight Dem in state races, though it was fun watching the libertarian going after Zinke for corruption and overspending. The State Supreme Court is *technically* nonpartisan, but both of them boiled down to "long term, highly respected incumbent candidates with solidly constitutional voting records" vs "new candidate getting explicitly partisan endorsements and tons of out of state money" so...

Anytime I see something like this I gotta ask: what, precisely, is the acceptable alternative?

You know how it goes, GOP will block everything, then claim democrat don't do anything for people and that they should vote GOP so things get done. GOP get in hard, proceed to pass massive tax cut then do nothing at all. Except now they'll also be able to block any sort of congressional investigation, which means they'll probably go even more hardcore on any sort of vote blocking measure. This might literally be the last somewhat fair election.

Yo, I didn't realize Colorado is trying to legalize shrooms.
For some reason youtube on my phone thinks I live in Colorado, and the fact that therapeutic shrooms were on the ballot is super cool. I've heard good things, research wise

Another note, several red states have a ballot initiative to allow state legislatures to call a special session instead of it only being able to be called by the governor.

So far here in California: Gavin Newsom has a very comfortable lead over Brian Dahle, so looks like he's sticking around for a while longer. As for ballot measures, these are the ones currently passing:

Protecting abortion and contraceptive rights: 68% yes
Required Funding for Arts Education: 63% yes
Flavored Tobacco Ban Referendum: 65% uphold ban

And currently not passing
Legalized sports betting in Native American casinos and licensed racetracks: 70% against
Legalized online and mobile sports betting for ages 21 and up: 84% against
Strengthen Dialysis Clinic Requirements: 70% against
Electric Vehicle Incentive Tax: 57% against

Of those that aren't passing, the only one I want to pass is the Incentive Tax. It's meant to tax people earning over $2 million a year an extra 1.75%, with that money going towards supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles.

So it looks like if Nevada and Arizona stay on track then the Republicans lose their shot at Senate control. If Georgia goes Democrat then the Senate is majority Democrat.

Red wave my ass, at least when it comes to the Senate. The problem is two Democrats in the Senate have been very stubborn with pushing reform bills and even with a victory in Georgia they would still have to convince one of them to go along with it.

I'm not so sure where the house is going to go. Although for the small margin favoring the Republicans it's more believable some Republicans would approve of Democrat bills, I've looked at Republican house results and it's never 100% against the Democrat bill.

Maloney is just the worst. Centrists just don't know how to win, they're unelectable.

The more progressive side of the democratic party is doing exceptionally well this election. There's already been a shift in the Democrat party but it seems like this election is going to push it even more.
Well of course, it's been that way every election cycle for the past several. It's mounting evidence that centrists exist to warm seats and need to shut up about policy or running the party.
