I don't really like WoW or any other MMORPG, at least not that I've found, and I must say:

Do whatever it is that makes you happy. I suppose it's about why you want to quit. If you are quitting it to do more productive things, then get up and do those productive things. If you stopped playing because you felt like it was stupid, maybe people pressured you into it, whatever...if it's a reason like that, maybe you should just go back to what you enjoyed and not worry about what people thought or worry about your feeling wrong about it.

So there ya go: my answers are conditional, apply them as needed ^_^

i quit recently without giving it too much thought, i like being able to beat a game, and wow can never be beaten and every expansion makes your efforts of the previous one totally pointless

it is by definition a gear collecting game, the bosses comapred to vanilla and the quality of player has more or less declined to the point where the trade channel feels like being trapped in 4chan forever

I think you might aswell start playing again. You need something to do, and why not play wow then? My wow account has been inactive several times because I've stopped wanting to play it, and that's fine, I take a break, but wow is good for using up spare time. That's why I often return to it. It'll spare me a lot of boredom and time spent wondering what I should do.

NOOOOO! Fight it! Resist! Do something creative and productive, build a boat or paint a house.

DONT GIVE IN PLEASE!!!
One of my friends played WOW then stoped... but he started playing it again and i havent seen him for 5 WEEKS no joke... im starting to get worried he hasnt even been on the PS3 and he always plays that... maybe i should call the Police.... : (
Yeah I remember I had a friend like that. I say "had" because he started playing WoW and it got to the point where he was like "No dude, sorry, I can't come party with a bunch of drunk, horny college girls, I've got a raid in half an hour and i need to rearrange my macros!" Haven't talked to that guy since high school. He never gets on skype or xbox live anymore, so it's like, eh, whatever. I'm so glad I hate that game and so will never get addicted to it. So no, I wouldn't recommend starting WoW again. Get another hobby bro. ideally, one that gets ya laid.

Simple advice,start playing a FPS.
When i was playing COD4 (before i change my connection and not being ABLE TO PLAY ONLINE ANYMORE FFS) i was hopping online whenever i felt like it,shoot here, stab there and when i'd have enough i'd stop.
WOW and other similar games don't work this way, they keep you hooked. To play the missions,to lvl,if you have a clan to be around coz they say so.It becomes more like a chore rather a game.Either you stay online for long to become a high-lvler etc or you'll be a low one who's getting his butt handed to him.

I know that recomending a FPS will end up with ppl saying "it's about point of view" but really, pick a game where you can have fun the moment you press the start button.
I say go for it,start playing FPS,lots of fun no matter if you're a beginner or not.
