Should we support black ops 2?

Unless you've had your internet cut for a few days, you'll know about the black ops 2 reveal. If not, here's the trailer, looks actually kind of promising.

Now, I've seen a fair few comments from COD fanboys that are slamming the game. "Treyarch ruined cod by making it halo!" "if I wanted to shoot sh**ty robots, I'd play terminator or tron" this sort of stuff. Now, that's put aside the point that people have been wanting change from COD for ages, and now it's being done, people are complaining, and try to, for a second, ignore the massive stupidity of such statements, and think about what this could mean for sales. If the fanboys are serious, black ops 2 could flop, proving in the eyes of developers that people don't want change. I don't think I need say why this would be incredibly bad. A smaller title failing because it dared to change things up a bit is bad, but if such a thing happens to COD, it would suggest that even the biggest franchises with the most fans can fail if they opt for change.

This brings me to an interesting point, because now, I'm thinking of buying it. As much as it looks interesting though, there's one major reason I'd do it, so that these morons don't mess things up BAD by abandoning cod in droves because it changed.

Over £40's a lot these days just to try and make a little change, but I'm seriously considering it, the consequences for the industry could be horrifying.

So, what do you think? Should us COD skeptics and burned COD4 fans rise up and support COD for doing what many of us have asked for? Or is it a massive waste? Could it even be just what activision wants?

Lol, CoD won't fail.

Like every other year, people will whinge, then promptly go out and buy it. Granted, BO2 looks like it's going to be doing a lot differently, but the fans won't change, and neither will the sales.

Remember how everyone complained that Modern Warfare 3 was more of the same and that they weren't going to buy it? Well so few people actually bought Modern Warfare 3 that it only went on to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time across any medium. Black Ops 2 will do fine[footnote]Although I don't think the next Modern Warfare will do quite as well as the others[/footnote], and if you want to buy a copy then buy a copy.

:p I think it's funny that apparently the most highly anticipated feature (according to the comments from the escapists' official article on the trailer) is "OMG YOU GET TO RIDE A HORSE!"

OP: operating on the assumption that pro-innovation types have enough market clout to have any effect on Blops2 sales either way, (unlikely) imagine what would happen if they spent their innovation monies on a game that doesn't suck and actually innovates in non-trivial ways.

Why should we support it? I see nothing new.

It's going to sell like hot cakes regardless.

The title isn't going to stray too far from it's tried and tested formula, because that would threaten Activision's supply of monies.

And they can't have that now, can they.

I'm not really up on my CoD history, but was there an outcry when they went from WWII to the modern era?

In any case I doubt it'll deviate far enough from the formula to damage its success.

But at lest they are trying. I mean sure BO2 isn't going to win any awards for innovation or originality . But they are taking steps in that direction. Baby steps sure , but steps nontheless . I for one prefer black ops to modern warfare , thus i will only by CoD every 2 years . That also keeps it from getting stale too quickly .

Baby steps?

Then we might get an original CoD title in, oh, about 20 years.

Do you like shooting dudes and think you'd like to shoot the dudes that you would shoot in the game? Buy it. If not, don't.

If you want to take some stance for some deeper reason than that, that's fine, but in general that first bit should apply.

CoD fanboys may think the concept of it being near-future, technology advancing too fast is an original idea by Treyarch, that's what I'm worried about. Also the Quadrotor is basically the new RC-XD but flies and has a gun.

do you like call of duty black ops?
if yes then buy Blops 2 because you will enjoy it
if no then dont buy (complaining loudly on the internet about it is optional)

im still not deciding whether to buy it or not, but either way i will actually be keeping an eye on this one, it looks at least interesting

my main problem with CoD however is the gunplay itself, the guns just feel too accurate, extremely high rate of fire and really high damage. and this has been the main thing putting me off. i hope they tone it down to be mor like CoD 4 in that regard

Im not going to buy it. They are just not my type of games. Yeah, there's a bit of innovation that has been brought to the table but i think that this "innovation" was forced on Treyarch by Activision.

Let me explain, they are going to release a COD game for the 4th year in a row now. So, i think what happened was somebody from Activision told the commitee who is developping the COD game to add something different (but it will probably feel like the same anyway). It will probably LOOK different but it probably will be more of the same. Treyarch probably told to themselves: "Ok, we have to try and make something new with this...we could just release the same game but our most loyal fans will probably realise it so we have to put something that feels different, then put that innovation in the next 3 games and then change the formula again".

What im trying to say is that if they could get away by releasing the same fucking game they would...but unfortunately people are getting more and more aware of their game making methods. So, if you like the new things that they put in Black Ops 2 my guess is that they will put those things in the next 3 or 4 games and then search for new stuff.

It's like in The Simpsons when they release the same barbie doll but with a hat.

Way I see it, either it sells well, sending the message that big franchises can afford to stray away from formula and take interesting risks; or it'll flop so hard that CoD takes a step back from the limelight and a more diverse range of games from the tier below might start getting more attention.

No lose situation.

Did you like other recent CoD games? Does that trailer look good? If you answered yes to both then buy the game, if not then either don't or wait for it to come out and read some reviews to decide.

...That's it really.

Let's just say her graphics look crazy, or at least that's what she's famous for (aside from being famous).
