I'm not really up on my CoD history, but was there an outcry when they went from WWII to the modern era?

In any case I doubt it'll deviate far enough from the formula to damage its success.
I don't remember there being one. CoD was popular, but nowhere near the giant it became with the switch to modern warfare.

And as much as I agree with the comments that these people will still buy the game despite their whinging, even a fraction less sales than black ops could prompt a knee jerk reaction from activision and indeed, other publishers of less than honourable practices.

Yes, yes they have. I feel like I should make a farnsworth reference, maybe post that axe picture from american psycho, say something about letting loose the nukes and bringing it all to an end, but no, I have no words to describe how such people make me feel.

Unless you've had your internet cut for a few days, you'll know about the black ops 2 reveal. If not, here's the trailer, looks actually kind of promising.

Now, I've seen a fair few comments from COD fanboys that are slamming the game. "Treyarch ruined cod by making it halo!" "if I wanted to shoot sh**ty robots, I'd play terminator or tron" this sort of stuff. Now, that's put aside the point that people have been wanting change from COD for ages, and now it's being done, people are complaining, and try to, for a second, ignore the massive stupidity of such statements, and think about what this could mean for sales. If the fanboys are serious, black ops 2 could flop, proving in the eyes of developers that people don't want change. I don't think I need say why this would be incredibly bad. A smaller title failing because it dared to change things up a bit is bad, but if such a thing happens to COD, it would suggest that even the biggest franchises with the most fans can fail if they opt for change.

This brings me to an interesting point, because now, I'm thinking of buying it. As much as it looks interesting though, there's one major reason I'd do it, so that these morons don't mess things up BAD by abandoning cod in droves because it changed.

Over £40's a lot these days just to try and make a little change, but I'm seriously considering it, the consequences for the industry could be horrifying.

So, what do you think? Should us COD skeptics and burned COD4 fans rise up and support COD for doing what many of us have asked for? Or is it a massive waste? Could it even be just what activision wants?
I have no idea what your getting at and I don't want to treed on anybodies feet here, but Treyarch don't need your support! And especially Activision don't need your support.
It doesn't matter either way cause the game is gonna come out, I'll pay $70 NZ, say its shit and no one will care.(And when I mean 'I', I mean everyone who has a 360, PS3 or PC.) Just like how the devs and producers don't care about whether they have your back.

Why are they complaining? I doubt any of then even touch the single player campaign. The multiplayer won't change, they already have all this remote control shit in it anyway. This isn't CHANGE this isn't INNOVATION. Setting a game 10 years in the shiny future doesn't make the game good, or bad for that matter.

All this video has shown is that you will be able to remotely control some shiny mechs. ************ YOU ALREADY DO THAT! WHAT DIFFERENCE IS IT TO YOU IF THE REMOTE CONTROL THING YOU ARE CONTROLLING HAS A PRETEND PERSON IN IT OR NOT? You know what? If this fails (and it won't) but it by some fucking miracle this fails, it will show, not that the community rejects change or innovation but that we fucking WANT change and innovation.

Also for all those morons saying "but but it looks like halo I hate halo" go look at all the shit they've said they're going to add in for Halo 4, you'll see the line between COD and Halo is getting so fucking blurry it's not funny.

But like Halo? Halo's gameplay is based heavily on the careful selection of certain weapons against certain enemies, nothing like Call of Duty, which consists of shooting the same enemy with the same gun OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
I don't think Halo has been like that for a while my friend. From what we've seen/heard of Halo 4 it certainly exhibits none of those features.

Yeah, it looks more like the Metal Gear universe than the Halo one.

I'm not interested in game because I do not play FPS in general, but I have to admit the universe is interesting.

That being said, if they are going to boycott this game, they should do it 100 percent. They should take a principled stand and not play the game period. They should not cave in and state that, "but I want to play with my friends" after a week or two.

There's this awesome picture... There was a COD MW2 ban, and about 95% of all participants played the game the week it was out. People can stick to their word, it won't work. I don't plan on buying the game as it's not my genre and I'm planning to spend my money on other games.

I'm a bit more interested in this setting than the other CoD games to be honest.

Also, the developers have been saying things.

I will obviously wait and see, I am not willing to get my hopes up for this though.

If you like how it looks, you should buy it. If you do not, than you should not.

It's worrisome how people don't get this.

Not expecting much and I gave up on the series before it was cool but this one actually mildly intrigues me.

Probably gonna be the same old shit we've seen from the franchise in the last few years but I'm willing to keep an ear open on this one. (Soft spot for futuristic shooters, I suppose)

How about you ignore every idiot who has to say something about the game that hasn't come out yet and wait it out?

Does it look interesting to you?

Yes? Go out and buy it.

No? Than go out and buy it so you can come back and complain about it.

I'm going to do something crazy and wait until I see how strong the single-player is. If it's longer than 20 hours of play (on the hardest setting) I'll probably buy it. If it isn't, I likely won't.

Do "we" need to support it? I think you're assuming I'm of a like mind with you, or even worse, are assuming that your opinion and mine can be represented on the same page in the same book in the same library.

Yeah, either way, lose-lose. CoD will do fine though.
It's Activision, not EA. An understandable mistake, since EA does the same thing with every single one of their sports franchises as well as Battlefield.

Also...

You haven't actually been following CoD very much, have you? Here:
2005 - Call of Duty 2
2006 - Call of Duty 3
2007 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
2008 - Call of Duty: World at War
2009 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
2010 - Call of Duty: Black Ops
2011 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Probably 2012 - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Treyarch has no affiliation with the Modern Warfare name other than it being in the Call of Duty franchise (and I think a part in the Wii port of 3, but who cares about that).

OT: Eh. I've not bought a Call of Duty title ever, and I can't really see that this will be the first one, unless they really decide to shake up the formula.

One can only hope these are just people trolling, and not actually serious (Which would simply proove they've played one of the other. Or neither.). And in the end, it doesn't matter. I see retarded comments on youtube videos, get momentarily annoyed, then go about living real life.

Lol...wut? I think it's going to come out NZ (Assuming you mean New Zealand) at about a hundred and thirty. At least. That's how much the standard game was for console (110 for PC if I remember rightly) and MW3 came out 150 for everything. Either way....wooo! Another Kiwi!

Erm, EA makes Battlefield and Medal of Honor, Activision rereleases Call of Duty.
My bad, replace EA with Activision then. But EA is just as big an offender with EA sports.
Except no one expects innovation from a sports game. They expect it to play like it has before, with tweaks to team rosters and maybe a new feature or two in the menu. That's it.

It's a damn Activision thread and people like you still manage to find some way to trash EA in the process. What's next, EA is the cause of obesity in america? Seriously, you try way too hard to dog them. It actually devalues any legitimate criticism you have of their games.
Wow, you must be really insightful to know so much about me when all you really know of me is that I accidentally confused them and Activision as the publisher for CoD, and then said I didn't like how they release the same sports game every year. Are you a wizard? And wow, obesity in America... yup, I'm definitely going to make that argument, all my points about them so far have been that ridiculous and far-fetched.

I support Black Ops 2 in the sense that I know it is the next installment in a popular franchise. I know people are going to buy it, and I both respect and support their right to do so. I also support it in the sense that I don't really have any complaints or wish it any sort of horrible crushing failure.

However, if you mean in any sort of financial sense...No. I'm not supporting it because I have no plans to buy it.

You know what, how about we all just stop bitching at each other from whatever side of the damn fence we stand on and WAIT for once until we have more to go on than a couple articles and a minute and a half reveal trailer before we go using one of these

I'm so tired of the back and forth bullshit every time a game is just ANNOUNCED, much less any concrete footage is seen.
I can see the responses already coming to me "But Savage, nothing ever changes with CoD and I can predict the future based off of circumstantial evidence saying that nothing ever will."
You know what....no, you can't, so why don't you remove your head from your fourth point of contact, play the games you like to play, and leave everyone else to do the same. The industry, and the community, will thank you.

2012...

Long-time fans are hating the new game. However, long-time haters are highly-anticipating it.

How weird is this? Well, let's see, it's in the year 2025, it also has "Cold War Flashbacks", possibly something like Assassins Creed: Revelations, it's a lot more open, your choices affect the story and events along with weather you complete an objective or not, the story looks very intriguing so far, and you get to ride ponies. Err... I mean, "horses", but, there's no doubt people are gonna start modding my little ponies into this thing.

This just might be awesome. We shall see.

How about you don't buy into the fucking hype and wait for the game to come out?

If it's good. Chances are you can buy it on sale later and have just as good an experience as the early adopters.

Chances are that if its bad, you just saved yourself time and money.

You know...it'll probably end up being fun, just like the other games in the series have been fun, in their stupid, mindless, never-ending repetitive die-and-shoot-someone-else-way. It's still a way to piss away a couple of hours.
