Beyond that, it's just Chrome for me.
You silly Ubuntard ;)
And proud of it! :D

Until Microsoft can sort out some of their painfully huge bugs, (I switched to Linux after Windows Explorer stopped functioning, the process completely vanished and wouldn't even appear after a restart. The BIOS said it was there, the rest of the time the computer thought otherwise. Try running windows without a core GUI manager, I dare you..) I will be using Linux.
Task Manager > New task > Explorer. Solved.

I really want to try Linux but I play a lot of games on my PC, I don't want to be faffing about with WINE. I'm looking to get a netbook to play with Linux soon though.

My background and FF theme are going to change very soon, I'm not happy with either at the moment.

Generally not a fan of these topics as they're not exactly encouraging discussion but damn I just fucking love this image.

I couldn't actually get that far because all of the windows running would flash, and the mouse wasn't registering the clicks in the same place as the cursor was shown. Keyboard controls were also out of the question, there was no way to tell what you had highlighted..

It was a fairly epic crash..

And I would recommend Linux were it not for the fact you like to game and, like you say, WINE can be a fuss to use. I don't do much of my gaming on the PC, so Linux wasn't so much of a big change.

Yes, I'm still using Vista. Yes, I've been meaning to upgrade...
I make OOTS avatars of video game characters. It started out with Richard from LFG, then the Borderlands gang, then Tf2. See them here:http://chromebookmark.deviantart.com/

PS: I use Vista too! But that may not be something to be proud of...

that's awesome, i love that picture. i love evangelion humour, the series was just a tad too po-faced for my liking.

my current desktop is...

the background is a mouse tracking from two and a half hours of dawn of war 2. i preferred the mass effect 2 one but i only just made this one.
how did you do that! it looks awsome!

Heehoo!

I forgot about my second screen when I captured it, I was loading up my profile image to make a spray for TF2 since for some reason that vanished.

Oh! If I may pester you about linux, I installed Ubuntu 9.10 and after it finished the installation it shut down my computer. Now whenever I try to select it in dual boot it just brings up a command prompt instead of launching the GUI interface... Any idea why this might be happening?

Making games work properly through WINE is a pain. The only PC game I actually play is Guild Wars (it's mostly a pretty chat client now though) and it's still not perfect after trying to tweak it for a year. The only flaws are some texture glitches, but I can live with that.

Other applications usually just require a simple installation to work through WINE. Stuff like Spotify and Ventrilo worked instantly.

EDIT: I just realised that we're drifting away from the topic... There should be a Linux thread around somewhere.

My desktop:

Firefox is the default look. The huge CPU use was due to my use of the PS2 emulator.

BTW, how do you do mouse tracking?

Seeing this thread made me realise that my awesome Rise Against persona had broken. After a little experimentation, I discovered that they all had, so for now, my answer is:

No persona, but you can haz my desktop.

I took that picture myself :D

Am I the only one who thinks there should be a pixel-thick line above the bottom persona-y bit?

Hmm, very odd. Is there anything in this command prompt or is it totally blank?

I had Ubuntu as a dual boot for a while but it would always take me to the GRUB launcher on startup..

I admit I'm fairly good at derailing things..Sadly there is a surprising shortage of Linux based threads around the Escapist..perhaps it's time to make one..

Also, I know WINE isn't too bad, it's just a little added fuss for a computer gamer to go through during installation.
