Should add context from particular source of question, it it helps, was an American white supremacist/fascist doing the rounds on UK RW reactionary (posh twat) podcasts recently where they don't ever say what they mean but repeat the same disingenuous line of rhetorical questioning, starting with their fave jumpoff question there positioned as a "how far modern society has fallen in comparison to our completely totally innocent and superior ancestors?" Forcing a weird 'parental disapproval' dynamic where none exists. It's that framing I reject wholly

True, such questions are usually an appeal to authority, and people who have been dead for centuries aren't really good authorities on modern society.

It falls in line with the current RW rationale in general. Since "make America great again" became their slogan, most reasonable people have been asking the most logical question in response: when was American ever "great?" Because save for the straight, white men, most others in America have endured or are still enduring very overt struggles and difficulties that are only recently seeing any acknowledgment and attempts at fixing with substantial pushback from the RW. "Again" can only mean a time when straight, white men exclusively ran the show: segregation, the only immigrants being those straight, white men allow, gay marriage disallowed, a lower class that knows it place, a middle class content doing the heavy lifting, etc. "Again" only strikes fear into the rational people who've lived during a time when "great" was far from reality.

The wake up call will come when the current RW's staunchest supporters (the ignorant and uneducated) realize that they themselves fall into a bucket that "great again" relegates to a resource to keep the straight, white men in power, but beyond that are as disposable and deplorable as all those "great again" cares the least about.

Not sure that will happen. I mean, it should, but they don't want to wake up and smell the disparity that doesn't work in their favour.

Yeah, it probably won't be so overt a realization. It most likely will be in the form of complaints from the ignorant and uneducated when the exiting Trump administration passes off a failing economy (read: a flourishing upper class with a stressed middle class and a neglected lower class) to the next administration who will be faulted for not immediately fixing things which ironically is exactly what Trump promised he'd do this go around. #Murica.

Communism is reverse tooth fairy myth. Now little more than vestiges of tradition echoed by billionaires to the lower classes all while they syphon as much value off hard labour right under their very noses. Or maybe Santa clause, seeing as is based off real alleged person, I dunno, what am I, mister sir metaphors??

20XX is too close.
If Data on 2024 is to reference the Bell Riots, then they should really be using Ben Sisko. And well, sure we didn't get hoverboards on 2015, and while we're in 2025 now and we do not have giant robots we also don't have kajiu invading to kill us so on balance I'm cool with missing out on that.

The Zombie/Zombi 2 main theme gives me this oddly relaxing, but foreboding feelings. It's pretty much a lullaby for me at this point.

The world is going to end December 31, 2099. There are no dates after that on the calendar on my computer.

Glasses now days always come with all sorts of expensive anti-glare coatings, but what I really want are a pair of glasses that will catch the light whenever I have something dramatic to say.

I wonder if any scientific advancements will turn out to be a net benefit for humanity in the long term. To individuals and on the short term science is great, but with every scientific advancement the precipice from which we might fall looms ever higher and more treacherous. Penicillin was a great discovery and has saved countless lives, but now 100 years later the global population has exploded, quadrupling in that short period causing overcrowding and compounding pretty much every other problem. The industrial revolution and industrial sciences have given us great access to material comforts and made our lives easier in innumerable ways, but the threat of climate change looms. The internet is an information revolution, the entirety of human knowledge at everyone's fingertips globally, but the constant connectivity is proving to be detrimental to human interaction and interaction on a global level to human psychology.

Pandemic, climate change, nuclear war, population collapse, the list goes on and each has become an existential threat to humanity globally due to scientific advances. Science is power, but power without the appropriate societal change to use it wisely can only lead to destruction.

Is there any character trait as suss as the absurdly pro-american Canadian? Like ok with any other country while I can disagree on poltics there are still clear differences that are understandably more appealing to some people. But Canada? That's just America with less bullshit and more healthcare, what you even on about? They got guns and more excuses to own them! When it comes down to racking my brain of noticeable enough differences all I got are mass shootings and the KKK. I'm telling you, those people are suss as fuck lol

also why does Russel brand continue to dress like a sex criminal? trying to put myself in the mind of a sex pest who has been outed and charged going through criminal courts, I'd've thought one would at least try to downplay the most stereotypical fashion sense of a sexual assaulter. but no there he is lurking about with his shirt buttons permanently undone as if he's earning commission on the number of unsolicited nipple harassments he can get away with every time people gotta share the same claustrophobic lift as him. it's just...not what a defense lawyer would recommend I suppose - reverse psychology ain't something commonly associated with sympathetic jury outcomes neither

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Douglas Adams once had a chapter that was, IIRC, a single sentence, in one of the later HHGTTG books.
Was it a normal length sentence or a multipage sentence that was lacking punctuation?
