If oil comes from dead dinosaurs, then are plastic dinosaurs kinda also real dinosaurs?
Not sure which is more impressive, that someone took a long enough shower to arrive at this thought, or that others put in the leg work to scientifically qualify it. Can we just cure cancer already? Just asking for a friend, well, +8 billion friends, if I'm being honest.

Whatever helps prevent the existential dread from setting in.

As I understand it (and I'm not an expert) one of the problems is that there are many different things that are lumped together as "cancer", so curing cancer is really a whole stack of different cures. OTOH, we can successful prevent certain kinds of cancer, vaccinate against certain causes, ensure diets that don't lead to others and so on.

Have there been any famous serial killers in recent times? I don't keep up with the news at all, but all the ones I can think of off the top of my head are from +50 years ago like Ted Bundy, Ed Gein, and The Zodiac Killer.

Not recently, recently. I think spree killing is more fashionable these days. That's the trouble with the youth of today, no patience, it's all got to be now, now, now, on demand. I blame the internet.

Again, not an expert, but I've read the theory that (maybe due to shorter attention spans), it's become popular to do one off big mass shootings, rather than the occasional murder over a long period.

And a lich named Zykon has essentially posted the same as me just before I was ready to hit Post Reply.

Yet another reason to be disappointed in modern society. There's no class to just walking into a movie theatre and open firing vs evading the police for months/years. Serial killers in the past were hot stuff, Ted Bundy got married mid trial and had a kid while on death row. Tell me, who's going to want to marry someone who shoots up a school or drives a van through a crowd?

I took a few levels in ninja before I ascended to lichdom.

They're usually dead by the end, so maybe really committed goths?

Humanity has a weird relationship with the animal kingdom doesn't it? We want to be so far removed from it that the concept of being compared to an animal is dehumanizing, and create complex creation myths to try and distance ourselves from everything else. And if we do acknowledge that connection, it's only usually in relation to some horrible depraved act committed by one to another.

We even have the concept of "anthropomorphic" to try and describe what we see in happening in animals as merely a reflection of what we ourselves do...

But...

The flipside of that, in a cynical way, is that animals are too...stupid, to actually come to the conclusions that we do on topics to arrive at the same point that we can anthropomorphize them, which just feels dumb, y'know?

I've been living in Stockholm for half a year now, and I've observed that there sure are a lot of people with disabilities, and also really poor feet/leg health in general. It only recently occurred to me (not quite in a shower, but while taking a dump) that this is because in the Philippines, if you have disabilities, you're just kinda fucked and forced to stay home. I see more people disabled people here because they can actually go out and live their lives normally.

The feet/leg health thing, idk actually. They seem to take podiatry pretty seriously here, and everyone is forced to be less sedentary, but I see a lot of bow legs and collapsed arches. Maybe preferences for narrower tighter shoes?

The answers in Jeopardy aren't written at all like answers. I was in the same room as my grandparents watched Jeopardy every week for around 20 years and I never realized that the questions were supposed to be answers and the answers questions until it was explicitly pointed out to me.

Here's some examples written question and answer form:
Q: What is Verona?
A: 16th century painter Paolo Cagliari was known as Paolo Veronese because he was born here.

Q: What is a cannon?
A: Molly Pitcher is famous for carrying water & firing one of these at the battle of Monmouth.

Q: What is Gimme A Break?
A: It's the only TV series we know that had "Gimme" in the title.

I would hate to have to ask any questions of the person who comes up with these.

The responses are baited questions, with the answers/clues being "the bait." The whole schtick of Jeopardy where the answers are the questions is mostly for the gimmick anymore; you could flip the format and have a rote trivia show, but "it's Jeopardy," so they have to do the thing that makes it Jeopardy.

If I had incidental music randomly play when I went somewhere, I think music from James Bond would be my favourite. Not the theme, just incidental music from any of the early film. The music is often different, but would all make me seem cool when walking into a room. Even the most 70s and 80s Roger Moore music.

The franchise is called Street Fighter, yet many fights don't take place on the streets (some parts of Alpha [mainly 2], III and VI especially mostly fixed this), nor are most of the cast actual street fighters. Or they don't have street fighting as their style. The only people who count or are considered actual street fighters are Birdie, Cody, and Poison. Characters like Guy, Maki, and Kimberly are considered "street ninjas". Yet, the other fighters who martial artist in their respective fighting style/discipline aren't afraid to play dirty. Though if certain fighters tried the dirty tactics like they did in their actual tournament fighting or a professional career/sanctioned match, it would get them kicked out, banned, or disqualified.

Makoto for example is a much more grounded/realistic take of an actual Shotokan practitioner. No fireballs, nor spinning kicks, but I highly doubt a punch to the groin or a headbutt would be considered legal in her area of practice or in a more professional karate tournament. At least two moves Dudley does in SF III or IV would be considered illegal in an official boxing match. It's a conundrum that sometimes keeps me awake at night. I've been thinking about this I was a teenager.

Isn't that crazy @Worgen, @Xprimentyl, @thebobmaster, @The Rogue Wolf, @hanselthecaretaker2, @Chimpzy, @Old_Hunter_77, @Drathnoxis, @Dreiko, and @ExtraWildGames? I know not all of you are major fighting game players, but the thought must have crossed your minds once?

Basically you’re probably reading into it too much lol. The thematic stuff gets layered on after so many games, but more important is how well the gameplay is balanced (yes I know, Max’s latest video had something to say about that but haven’t watched it yet).

You're not wrong, but it seems evident to me that the "cool factor" of the name Street Fighter outweighs all of that.

Didn't the Street Fighter series have a different name that was more related at some point during development?
