who ever said i was closed in? i never made that statement. i tried to argue that society's look on people who keep to themselves should not be classified as a judgment.

personally i stay either at home or at uni doing different things. but, especially after prolonged exposure to people, for instance a party, i need to get back to recharge. this does not constitute that i am afraid of people; i'm not, and where i come people love me. but still, my mind needs time to analyze and process events. i consider it a form of meditation, and will gladly spend sleepless night just sitting and thinking.

it's all to do whether you're more introvert or extrovert. i am extrovert much to not mind people at all, but still introvert enough to recharge. there are others who might not be neither extrovert or introvert enough to have these traits, or have just the traits from introvertedness (fear of people, dislike of being around people), or the traits from extrovertedness (need of people, need of conversation with people).

I'm trying to be a shut-in, but things keep making me go outside; paying bills, work, girlfriend needs a lift somewhere...

sometimes i get into sorta shut in "bursts" where ill just decide not to do anything, but most of the time just go outside at every given chance as they arise, works for me anyways.

Minor shut-in. I don't leave the house to go outside unless asked, school and such. If I got a more comfortable chair I would never leave my ass-print to be changed/warmed by another.

Do know, you can mess up the foundation to house.. Or even worse you may sink the neighborhood if its built on top of a cavern.

Yeah, except for school, rugby training/games, and the occasional kick about, I stay in my bedroom/living room a lot

If friends invite me outside, I have school, or exercise (tennis) then I'll go gladly. But all of the rest of the time I play, when I have games, or just post in different forums.

I've just come back from going to an all girls private school, where my friends girlfriend goes to and where a lot of my "friends who are girls" go. It was pretty awesome, i go out almost every weekend though but i used to be a shut in. I used to hardly ever go out, but i like it this way.

I do spend a fair amount of time playing games and on this forum but I don't think I'd class myself as a shut in by any means. I spend a fair bit of time walking around the town before and after Uni with my friends/girlfriend and I'm always out on a Saturday night and usually have a few other activities planned on week nights and weekends.

A couple of my friends are real shut ins though. One of them, the only contact I've had with him for 3 months is through MSN messenger. He seriously only leaves the house to go to university. Another of my friends is pretty much housebound thanks to a combination of chronic asthma and a very prolonged bout of the flu.

I think I'd go mental if I didn't have stuff to do outside my room.

I see what you did there. I don't think it's necessarily 'evil', and Vitamin D is good for me.

You need to find reasons to go out. Stay shut in for too long and you become a bit 'weird'.

...

You have to push back as soon as possible. If you retreat from the world too much you can find yourself very lost.
This guy knows what he's talking about.

That was starting to happen to me, spending a lot of time in my room and gradually withdrawing from more and more things until I would've ended up completely withdrawing from life as a whole. Then I found (and now live with) a great bunch of new friends who drag me out and try to make damn sure I'm not wasting my life. I love 'em for that because I don't want to think about how much I would've sabotaged myself by now if they hadn't arrived in my life like a whirlwind.

You want to know the number one way to prevent someone from being a shut in (speaking from personal experience)? Don't have stable internet at home. Ever since high school, I haven't had stable internet at home, forcing me to go out, either with my laptop or whatever. But now I'm a coffee house bum, so it isn't much better >.>

This break, I'm a shut in. I come home to my parents house to find that nearly all my friends are working the entire break or didn't come home or whatever. So I just sit in my room, writing my English paper due in half a month, listening to Itunes, and trying not to feel bad about how crappy this break has become.

But hey, it could be worse. I could be subscribed to WoW still...oh wait, I resubscribed a week ago. Damnit.

Well, if I'm at home I'll sit on my laptop. I have MSN, music, a TV nearby and my games sytems and the internet. But when my friends call me up I obviously drop what I'm doing to spend time with them. Wouldn't call myself a shut in.

Extreme shut in x)

No gf, no job, live with parents...dont spend money on anything except occasional extra supplies and cola...

I only leave the house to get said supplies..which my parents usually get.

i've only left the house in the last 2 weeks to look for a new leather jacket for xmas...which we ordered online in the end.

As the old saying going "The evil daystar is trying to kill me."
