Thanks for some fast responses guys.

Rednog, your idea is worth a shot, I'll see what happens. I really hope Deep Silver fixes these gamebreakers, there are diamonds at the bottom of the elephant shit pile that is this game.

I wonder how long we'll have to wait for the devs to admit they released the game FAR too early.

Well they refuse to have their own forum on their site in regards to the game...so read into that in terms of if they will ever admit to or fix anything.

Level scaling, while annoying, hasn't been a big problem for me due to careful weapon management, but I agree with the criticisms all the same.

My Xbox version of this game is broken. I am so seriously pissed off guys, and I would like to know if others have suffered the same problems I have.

I had finished all missions in the Resort Map when Sinamoi gave me the mission to armor up the armored truck to move on to the City Map. Nevermind that when I continued that time it started me at the beginning of the Hotel (that was annoying enough because i thought I lost all my progress), but then I turn on my xbox on today, and my continue plants me in the Northwest corner of the city with none of the map opened to me, and the Russian Sat Phone guy with no dialogue icon for me.

The game officially screwed me. I was lost, getting shot at by human NPCs, and had no idea how to return to the map I had spent 11 hours exploring.

If there is a game developer section of hell, these people deserve a place in it.

I've been scouring the internet for answers to my glitch problems but nothing has surfaced. Because of this, I will NOT play my game again until the dev acknowledges or patches this. This experience was too jarring and infuriating.

Is anyone else getting their missions skipped and themselves teleported to new areas just by continuing their game?
There's a handful of gamebreaking glitches in the game, ign posted one where a guy got spawned inside a hut with an unkillable zombie in the door way that just stood there. I personally got Jin laying on the ground an refusing to get up even on reload she spawns on the ground. Just have to do the trick to create a new character and have it be the same character you had before, you might lose a few levels but you'll be near the last progression point.
...lololol. It wasn't a glitch, but it reminds me of a point in the Prison where I had a Ram blocking the door forward. Frontal attacks only do 1 damage to Rams and they have metric shittons of health. When I FINALLY somehow managed to widdle it's health down, I walk out...and a SECOND Ram runs out of nowhere, slams me back into the room, and blocks the entrance. But now I have no un-broken weapons. Major 'FFFFFUUUUUUUU-' moment.

That and so, so much more.

Pretty much the only way to fix it at this point is to jump into someone else's game and just play through until you reach Act II and open up some stuff there...
Actually I'm not sure this would fix it, I think you're only allowed to go into a person who is as far as you or lower, if they formed a party the game would start them at the lowest progression point and not farther.
That was the point...he joins someone at the same point in the story or a bit earlier, then work up to where he is now. (Because of his glitched spawn)

Higher levels and stronger zombies should equal more high level weapons and more frequent ammo spawn.
They don't really want you getting ammo unless your fighting people with guns first so you use them sparingly but weapons to level with you.(Mostly the game sometimes drops low level weapons.)Ok some weapons don't get levels at all like rusty pipes, paddles and hatstands but those are last resort options you should be keeping your weapons in good condition often carry a few Molotovs they are great for crowd control just find a few places on the island that has items you like in the open and when ever you go back to those areas again after sometime or going far enough away they will reappear to be looted again at your current level like the warehouse in Moresby always has a (knife, baseball bat & hammer)if you fast travel back and fourth from the church.

Because the two Rams are supposed to be in that room. It's just...I took too long leaving, so they walked up the stairs to where I was fixing my weapons up. `-`

I was referring to this glitch And the glitch I had, Jin got hit with my friend's nade when we were at a checkpoint and she just lay face down on the ground and we couldn't do anything to get her back up. We reformed the party, she was still on the ground.

Dead Island is one of the best ideas for a game that I've seen in a long time.

It is also, hands down, the most poorly executed game I've played in a long time.

And it's not just the level scaling; there's a mile-long list of fuckups and failures that haunts that island. The bugs, the controls, the mechanics, the textures, the animations, the dialog, the characters. From beginning to end, playing it was an exercise in frustration and raw determination. All I can say is that I'm ever-so-glad I only rented Dead Island from Redbox and didn't buy the damn thing.

Some of my favorites:

- I cannot make modified items from weapons beyond white quality, as there is about a 50% chance that if I do, the resulting weapon simply vanishes from my inventory. If I attempt to mod a unique weapon, that goes up to 100%, without fail.

- Escort missions sometimes result in the escorted randomly dying. Mid-stride, without a zombie for miles, they'll just keel over dead. Though that's still better than:

- The person I'm escorting will simply stop. Just stop. They won't move, they won't respond. They'll just stay there. Restarting at the last checkpoint does nothing. Switching zones does nothing. The only way to fix the problem is to quit the game and shut off the console. This was most notable in the Laboratory zone, where the Ode or whatever the fuck his name is would get to the ledge he's suppoed to jump, and then run back and forth between it and his starting point endlessly. His daughter also had the same problem, where she refused to go up stairs.

- Quest givers dissapearing. Their icons were still there. The "glowing trail" still leads to where they should be standing. But they just aren't there. Like above, the only way this was solved was by shutting off my goddamn console, and also like above this happened most frequently in the Laboratory zone.

I didn't have a problem with the scaling, mostly because if enemies stayed at a lower level in an area It would be boring just one shotting things. And it never makes me feel like a Zombie slaying god, so it stays scary when fighting a group of zombies and not knowing when one will fall (I play without enemy damage and enemy healthbars, those take away from the experience for me.) Now, I did have a problem with the Infected being able t find me from one side of the map and just tearing me apart, but that was because I am terrible at fighting more than one.

It's good to hear that others are experiencing game breaking glitches (unlike me but mine are severe inconveniences), I thought I was just insane. Now to shelf my game for several months until it's no longer an unplayable alpha.

I have beat the game and I feel it gives me a sense of being more powerful without making the game stupid easy. I like how as level 39 I can still get my ass beat on the resort level, but I also like how my crit skills I purchased make my electric sledgehammer launch a zombie 10 feet into a wall and make his arms and sometimes his head explode into gooey goodness upon impact with said wall. I surely wasnt that badass at level 12 so....

I've bee thinking about it a lot lately, and I really think that I honestly could have made a better zombie game than them if given the resources and staff.

Funnily enough, the RPG element was one of the things that ruined this game. #called it

I don't see what your all complaining about i'd rather play the underdog in terms of weapon levels then be the almighty indestrutible zombie killer, if you easily kill zombies since your higher than them then it takes the atmosphere away, simples.

The game may be a little buggy at times (sometimes a weapon will randomly disapear from inventory (or at least my co-op buddy had that issue)), but it's a really fun game and as to those complaining you have weapons below the zombie levels all i have to say is a single word... "UPGRADE" and always keep your weapons maintained, they do f all when there badly damaged.

Oh and if you can't find weapon's you must not be looking at all to be honest when i first started before going up the stairs to get the keycard i found 4-5 weapons just lying around on the beech (paddles, broomsticks, etc.) and i wasn't even looking to stock up since i didn't know about weapon durability, by the time i'd reached the keycard i'd found several more better weapons (knives, iron pipes, etc.).

I've had the PS3 glitch a few saves, and send me back a few levels. Luckily I read about these issues before buying so I'm reluctant to get too carried away with the game until it's patched for saves. And the last patch wiped out your saves anyway.

That said, I can't stop playing it and just monitoring the biohazard save ident, (it disappears after a few saves, but you still get the checkpoint), means I can stay slightly ahead of any major fuck ups.

I found a way to manually save. When you want to get off, go to options and set your fighting style from Digital to Analog (and vice versa) and exit the pause screen. It will manually save.

Also, for the love of all that is holy, delete the 31mb patch. It fixes nothing and even makes things worse.

I like Dead Island, but I hate the level scaling, or the "levels" in general.

It should be more about survival, with places in the world being static pockets of 'danger'. Going into the hotel, for instance, should be deadly. It messes up co-op as well, because if you join someone lower than you, you overpower everything in the game, it's really absurd.

Though, it's just the zombies that scale, along with weapons. You can be level 30, fighting level 10 zombies, and they will still wreck you if you let them, but your weapons disintegrate them. So all you do, is have your lower level co-op partner hand you some level 10 weapons. Then it evens it out a bit.

Weapons scaling is retarded it just doesn't work, If I hit you with a crowbar I bloody hit you with a crowbar there's no difference wether it's shiny or not.

Monster scaling is usefull for gameplay but you should take the players skill/ability into account

Do it the oblivion way or don't do it at all

Anyway, for discussion value: How do you feel about level scaling? Any ideas on a better system of allowing enemies to challenge the player? It gets bothersome when you're decked out in glowing legendary armor, but looters in cloth rags and wielding rusty, chipped daggers have more health than you do...
The curve just needs to start differently. In games like this, early on, you should feel like you need to run and retreat from basically every fight. As you gain experience, you get the ability to break free of a tough situation... so that you can run and retreat. Then you get the ability to take a few down on the way. And only at the top level are you really in a position to fight it out. In the early levels, your XP wouldn't come from kills, but from completing survival tasks.

The problem with this? Players would get too frustrated too early on, because we're too used to games in which it's easy to kill all of the zombies super fast. "Zombie survival" is just "zombie hunting." Players don't like to start the game outmatched.

The need for level scaling just means the player has been started at too high a skill level, or that the levels are being gained too quickly. This could also be fixed by changing the leveling system (as many games have done) so that not everything goes up when you "ding."

Great example of all of this? Dead Rising. You don't level up by killing zombies, and it's usually beneficial to try to avoid them--especially at first. And at each level, you get one thing better (maybe it's damage, maybe it's health, maybe it's inventory...). By the max level, you feel far more capable... but you're not SuperGod.

And, of course, zombies aren't the only enemy. Why scale up the zombies, when you can instead just toss in some human enemies to ramp up the challenge once in awhile? In a survival situation, zombies aren't your only opposition, there's also "the other guy who wants that stuff you want."

Level based zombies?

Why, I thought this was going to be a visceral examination of how you would survive your family getting infected...

Oooh, look, I've eaten a brain. Ding!
