I agree, I hear it isn't faithful to the games, but I loved it visually and atmospherically, even if the story wasn't that great.Spaceman_Spiff said:I actually kinda liked the film, it was enjoyable pophorror.
Well then they would of changed it to fatherhoodDracoSuave said:It wouldn't have worked, see above.Quiet Stranger said:Okay fine, but next time put a guy in a guy's role (if not Harry Mason at least put in a guy cause it was a guy for the first game)DracoSuave said:By making Dahlia into a sympathetic woman rather than the villain, they changed the tone of the movie; it became about motherhood, and as such, you couldn't have a male Harry Mason serve in the role of the wandering seeking parent.
You can't stick a male character in and call it about motherhood, now, can you?
That IS a central theme of the movie.
Many people, I would even guess the majority of people use movies as a means of escaping for a while, as a means to be entertained and not have to think wicked hard about what you are doing. If you are playing a game, especially one like SH, you are constantly thinking of puzzles, enemies, and it is very tense, it is a different experience. Why would it be dumb for someone to want to experience the game in a way where you could put those things aside, and watch a cinematic recreation of the events?Jonsbax said:Of all the things to complain about.... So you're saying they should just take the original stories and make them movies? That sounds really dumb to me, since why would I want to go watch something when I can actually play it.
You liked Shattered Memories, and you think this is going to hurt Silent Hill? Not G. Ivingname said:Oh come on. Silent Hill 2 the game was the peak of the series and has quite possibly the greatest story in a video game ever told. It worked so well in such a interactive world, not as linear tale of events. Just when the games were getting back on there feet with Shatter Memories, you have to give us this.
While not a perfect game nor could it do horror without being frustrating, it was a great story with an unique take on the series. This looks like it will whore out Pyramid head like Origins and Homecoming did, and try to do nothing that the marketting deparment doesn't think is "safe."PrototypeC said:You liked Shattered Memories, and you think this is going to hurt Silent Hill? Not G. I just wish people would be able to recognize that, and stop whining.TheDrunkNinja said:I want to see stuff from the game put into the movie. That's why I came to see the movie. That's what this film did. It had balance, something new for Silent Hill fans while still giving us that overall feeling that we love from the games.
I would enjoy that. I liked Silent Hill, and am quite excited for the sequel. I would love if they put Robbie in there somewhere, sitting lifeless in the background of a scene.TheDrunkNinja said:Hell, if they wanted, they could put Sean Bean as the main character looking for Rose from the first film. That'd be a throw back the games while still continuing this fresh, new story.
It was quite good (by that I mean pretty decent) for a videogame movie. Just ignore the "ZOMG THEY BASTARDIZED PYRAMID HEAD!!!" screams from fanboys (let's just accept him at face value, he WAS the executioner for the town, after all)..-Zen- said:I actually kind of liked the first film. Maybe this will be decent as well.

Needless to say these movie execs should go ahead and make the film - what exactly do these "gamers" want anyway - I'm near certain they don't know themselves; they just want to moan about something, because of course they know more about what makes a good game film than those that create films for a living...
