I actually kinda liked the film, it was enjoyable pophorror.
I agree, I hear it isn't faithful to the games, but I loved it visually and atmospherically, even if the story wasn't that great.

The only thing I disliked was how that siren sound came from the Church, I thought it was way cooler when it was just a noise that happened when it was going "dark".

Hell, the film made me want to play the games, so it can't be that bad.

I liked the first Silent Hill and I love the games. Like someone before me said, if it was an exact film interpretation of Silent Hill 1, the gamers would be bored as hell watching it because they know all of it already and there'd be no merit in watching it. It's like the Resident Evil movies even though I hate those with a passion.

I'm such a hypocrite it seems. Ignore me.

By making Dahlia into a sympathetic woman rather than the villain, they changed the tone of the movie; it became about motherhood, and as such, you couldn't have a male Harry Mason serve in the role of the wandering seeking parent.
Okay fine, but next time put a guy in a guy's role (if not Harry Mason at least put in a guy cause it was a guy for the first game)
It wouldn't have worked, see above.

You can't stick a male character in and call it about motherhood, now, can you?

That IS a central theme of the movie.
Well then they would of changed it to fatherhood

Of all the things to complain about.... So you're saying they should just take the original stories and make them movies? That sounds really dumb to me, since why would I want to go watch something when I can actually play it.
Many people, I would even guess the majority of people use movies as a means of escaping for a while, as a means to be entertained and not have to think wicked hard about what you are doing. If you are playing a game, especially one like SH, you are constantly thinking of puzzles, enemies, and it is very tense, it is a different experience. Why would it be dumb for someone to want to experience the game in a way where you could put those things aside, and watch a cinematic recreation of the events?

I'm sick of these video-game movies piggybacking off established concepts and adding their own little twists here and there so the writers don't feel too guilty about not having enough cajones to create their own concepts. If you are going to make a Silent Hill movie and take it in a different direction, why not just make a different movie? Because then, it would be generic horror movie #1,337,069 without the built-in fan support and license to print money, but at least it would be more their own.

Nah, the first film was terrible. Not because it betrayed the game; I've never played them. But because the film was terrible.

Oh come on. Silent Hill 2 the game was the peak of the series and has quite possibly the greatest story in a video game ever told. It worked so well in such a interactive world, not as linear tale of events. Just when the games were getting back on there feet with Shatter Memories, you have to give us this.

I have seen silent Hill part one and it was great to watch this movie but I think it would be more fun to play the game instead of watching the sequel of Silent Hill.

the movie was watchable which is more than i can say about most video game renditions (i'm looking at you resident evil extinction) however it focused on the worst elements of the franchise, the evil cult also it changed quite a bit including the gender of the main protagonist also it would make little sense going with the plot line of silent hill 2 because they have used pyramid head already and he is just a part of james sunderlands twisted imagination. so hopefully they will skip to part 3 in the franchise which i care about less.

as a side point if they do a silent hill movie based on the game of silent hill two i may just have to make a fan version using nothing but the lines in the game as dialogue so i cant funk anything up.

I read this thread because of the brilliant title alone!

Regardless, I enjoyed the skin ripping, barbware sodomising first Silent Hill movie. I had to supress the rage at them taking extreme liberties with the story; but as a whole it worked.

I didn't love it, but it was pretty faithful and didn't give me a hernia. The acting was really good, even by the kid (she's awesome), the monster designs were completely amazing, and the plot... well, it didn't make the slightest bit of sense to anyone who hasn't played the games. There were some details that only someone who really understood the games could have picked up on and used, and some details were actually better (the whole thing about a mine fire as to why it's abandoned and haunted, for example. Damn, Christoph, that's clever and makes more sense). The only gripe I had was the stupid DeviantArt contest that made the movie poster. Overall, I liked it.

This film, though, better be a brand-new story building up from the basic premise of an Otherworld that presents delusions in monster form (etc. etc. complicated stuff).

I'd still rather just re-watch Jacob's Ladder though.

While not a perfect game nor could it do horror without being frustrating, it was a great story with an unique take on the series. This looks like it will whore out Pyramid head like Origins and Homecoming did, and try to do nothing that the marketting deparment doesn't think is "safe."

I want to see stuff from the game put into the movie. That's why I came to see the movie. That's what this film did. It had balance, something new for Silent Hill fans while still giving us that overall feeling that we love from the games.
I just wish people would be able to recognize that, and stop whining.

Hell, if they wanted, they could put Sean Bean as the main character looking for Rose from the first film. That'd be a throw back the games while still continuing this fresh, new story.
I would enjoy that. I liked Silent Hill, and am quite excited for the sequel. I would love if they put Robbie in there somewhere, sitting lifeless in the background of a scene.

As long as you don't screw it up, make the movie. I'll see it in theaters. The movie was good, but is mutilated and put in a rusty cage for eternity by the games. If they make a sequel to the first movie, good. If they make a movie based off of Silent Hill 2, make it good. If you screw up James Sunderland, I will go berserk.

It was quite good (by that I mean pretty decent) for a videogame movie. Just ignore the "ZOMG THEY BASTARDIZED PYRAMID HEAD!!!" screams from fanboys (let's just accept him at face value, he WAS the executioner for the town, after all)..

To be honest most "gamers" are loud-mouthed idiots that don't even understand exactly what they are moaning about. "Fans", however, are by far the worst of the bunch. I'm not going to go into detail, because that area has already been covered by Destructoid.

http://www.destructoid.com/videogame-fans-need-to-shut-up-about-everything-164476.phtml

Needless to say these movie execs should go ahead and make the film - what exactly do these "gamers" want anyway - I'm near certain they don't know themselves; they just want to moan about something, because of course they know more about what makes a good game film than those that create films for a living...

How can you know that? are you a gamer yourself? obviously not. i'm not trying to cause any offence, but this film will be terrible, just like the first.
