I named my Oblivion character Mr. Tibbs so I could imagine people asking my name and replying "THEY CALL ME MR. TIBBS!"

I named my rival in Pokemon a lot of things, but the most notable were probably Asscrac (because the k wouldn't fit), YourMom, Dumbass, and, in a rare fit of maturity, Akiko. (Which is still a girl's name, but hey. At least it's a name.)

In Twilight Princess I named myself God and my horse Balls.

The first character I had on WoW was called Harenko, something completely random of the top of my head which I later found out meant ''I have cow'' in another language.

I just played through Final Fantasy X. Usually, I leave names alone, but once I named Tidus Billy H. (Short for Billy Hatcher), things went downhill.

A lot of the names were homage to stupid shit I saw on Youtube/the internets.

Valefor = Jimmy N. (As in, Jimmy Neutron)
Ifrit = T. Alan (As in Tyrannosaurus Alan from that stupid water commercial)
Ixion = MK.HRMNY (Inspired by Robot Unicorn Attack)
Shiva = M. Luigi (THAT'S MAMA LUIGI TO YOU)
Bahamut = CREEEEEED (Whenever I was having difficulty in a battle, I'd 'deep strike' him in! He's my tactical genius! *Shitty Warhammer40k joke*)
Yojimbo = GuySelby (Really, really long inside joke story.)
Anima = McGiygas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_okvanf7W9I&translated=1)
Magus Sisters (Cindy, Sandy, Mindy) ("Disapoit", "good." , and "BABBY?", respectively. Don't ask.)

Well, my brother and I found them funny. : (

Well, I always name my character in Shin Megami Tensei series "Sama Abedeus". So when they speak my name, it's either "Lord"/"Sir" or a welcoming with a high dose of praise.

NO I'M NOT FULL OF MYSELF GET OFF OF MY BAACK

I called my Soul Silver rival Assface, it works well when you call yourself Twatman cause it opens up funny Dialogue "Yo, Twatman. Prepare to be destroyed"

I called a Cubone Puff Daddy 'cause he reminds me of a little pimp with his little pimp stick, all he needs is a purple hat with a feather

I called link in ocarina of time I am gay. Do it and you'll find out why. It's very funny.
"Hi I am gay! how are you?"

If you could fit it, you should make I am gay for you

"You're our savour, I am gay for you!"

All of my characters in Fallout 3 were named a variant of "Steve". Steve, Steph, Stella, and Stewie. Stewie, naturally, was the file where I used the door glitch to wander around the wasteland as a newborn baby.

In Pokemon Red and Blue, my characters usually have names like "Sexxy [mn symbol]" or ??D?w?y for maximal abuse of the Missingno. glitch. If x or w is in the 3rd, 5th, or 7th slot of your name, you will encounter Skeleton Form Missingno. If y is in one of these slots, you will encounter Ghost Form Missingno. If the [mn] symbol is in one of these slots, you will encounter and battle Professor Oak. If D is in one of these slots, you will encounter Mewtwo. If ? is in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th slots, these encounters will be at level 230. Good luck.

Haha, I did this for Mass Effect 2.

Thane was Agent 47. Jack was Butch. Legion was Robocop.

The craziest name I've given to a character?
Bob... No, no, wait even better!... TIM!
Monty python reference?
I too abuse fable 2's nickname thing by finding people with jobs and naming them verbs. "stab the blacksmith, burn the stylist, strangle the gypsy, hang the town crier" and so on. I also named my dog "hero" so that when people (THERESA) neglected to use my title I could assume they were talking to him.
In KOTOR 1...
after seeing my brother play a bit and learning the dark lord's name, I named myself Revan thinking I would carry on his tradition. Imagine my surprise...
I made a custom class called "Useless prick" in oblivion to adequately portray the collective NPC attitude toward the player before doing their bidding.
I tried out Yahtzee's "Isay" Idea in twilight princess. "Isay, get on fatso(epona) and find those kids!" "Isay, what's happening?" "Isay, it's good to see you!" Funnier when I imagined the foghorn leghorn accent as well.
Last time I played a pokemon game, I named the little freaks after food. "coconut uses harden!"
Naturally, there was the final fantasy (9, I think) cast of swear words in all caps.
I named Shepard "Wolf" in Mass Effect to give ambiguity to my moral standing.
Finally, I named the mabari "Chopper" in Dragon age. The overwhelm ability comes pretty close to my vision for that name.

The first Pokemon game i had was Crystal, and because you met your rival before you got to name him, when you first meet his name is displayed as ???.

When I was later asked what his name was, I thought I was supposed to report what I had seen. And so, my rival was named ???.

I was about 9 at the time, though.

This is an obvious one...

I don't think I've ever abused the name entry function in a game, however that comic cracked me up, esp. their faces in the last panel.

When I bought Pokemon Pearl, I had an overwhelming urge to name my rival Fagballs. So I did.

I never really got crazy with names but my bro made a WOW character called: Imaman and had her dance naked on top of mailboxes.
