Why would anyone try to beat the game that fast? Isn't the whole point of a Bethesda style game to explore the terrain, find hidden secret stories told through the environment and experience the rich expanse of side quests and adventures to be had that have nothing to do with the main quest? I put hundreds of hours into Oblivion, and I fully anticipate putting hundreds more into Skyrim. I mean I get the idea of a speed run, but with a game like this, that almost doesn't seem like an accomplishment.

EDIT: Or at the very least it defeats the purpose...
why? pie. pie's why.
but the point of the GAME is to see cool shit.
the point of this is to see how fast you can do it. also pie.

OT: well... good for him i s'pose.

What concerns me about this is it makes me suspect that once again the enemies abilities scale with your level. I'm not a fan of enemy scaling. I rather enjoy the feeling of grinding and eventually becoming a walking drizzt do'urden killing machine that fears nothing.

Let me see someone beat Dark Souls in two hours... then i'd be impressed :p
Didn't someone in the thread already say that the record for that game was ~1hr?

At least it's nice to know that, compared to his Fallout 3 speed run it is over an hour longer. It seems just yesterday I was waiting 3 months for Skyrim, now with less than a month to go, I actually can't wait :D

Demon's Souls can be beaten in less then an hour. Therefore, Skyrim will be better then Demon's Souls. Right?

Also, There is a one-on-one conversation between Todd Howard and Markus Persson. (AKA "Notch" Minecraft's creator) Todd mentions that the QA testers learn to speedrun the game so that they can get to certain parts of the game very quickly. They do this so that they can test weather certain bugs and glitches are still present in the newest iteration of the game.

At least they aren't lying about how long the game is, like saying call of duty is 8 hours or portal 2 being 9

Ugh ... Speed running through a game always bothers me for some reason. Hopefully they're trying to see just how much core content they have as a dipstick for time investment for power gamers?

no, nevermind that would be silly :D

This. I have over 300 hours played in Oblivion and I've never finished the main quest
Exactly. Most of the content of RPGs is all in the miscellaneous side quests, sight seeing and just general screwing around

Considering you can beat Oblivion in just over 10 minutes, I'm glad this is an improvement.
what? I know its damn short, but sitting through all the fast travel loading screens alone probably took that long.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but conclusively proving that the main content of your new epic RPG can be beaten in less than two and a quarter hours is NOT something you should be this proud of. What are they trying to tell people? "Yeah, if you're looking for a good story, this is basically not worth it?" Great marketing right there.

I don't think anyone with half a brain cell thinks that, so no I don't think they are.

You run it at a certain speed that minimizes loading times, do a wall trick to skip some of the intro, fast travel to the cathedral as soon as you leave the tutorial, then use paintbrushes (or a jump bug like in the video) and wall glitches to jump over it, which automatically teleports you to the very end of the game.

video is here:

O, well thats hardly counts. Im sure exploiting glitches in Skyrim will allow your to "complete" the game in an equally ludicrous time.

Wow...that's some time. I guess I know what I'm gonna try and beat now, probably ten or so games in...

It's enough that people beat games in absurdly fast times, but doing it BEFORE THE GAME'S COME OUT? What the hell is going on!? o_O

It seems pretty pointless, afterall, to comment on an article that one hasn't taken the time to fully read and understand. Kind of like, oh, I don't know....
No one reads the OP fully is something I've conclusively proven to be true, which has made me very happy.

OT: 2 hours compared to 75 minutes is very promising, considering I spent quite a long time on Fallout 3. I'm assuming stuff like side quests was left alone too, so this is awesome entertainment-wise, and terrible for my social life if I buy it.

Bernstein, who can be seen basking in the august rays of victory above, received a small trophy for his troubles as well as a pie of his choice, baked by director Todd Howard. Bernstein also won the speed run competition for Fallout 3 back when it launched, finishing the post-apocalyptic RPG with a final completion time of 75 minutes.
The only other Bernsteins I know of are the reporter who won various awards and Rugal Bernstein, SNK fighting game boss monster.

Pictured: Not the reporter.

Therefor I must believe that all Bernsteins everywhere are in fact next to invincible. If they are not warlocks then clearly they must at least be in league with warlocks.
No Leonard Bernstein? THE american composer?

The guy who wrote West Side Story? WHAT?
