Are you trying to tell me that you can start a family in Skyrim? My gaming priorities just shifted considerably towards Skyrim...

And army of children at my command...

Oh, God.

No Leonard Bernstein? THE american composer?

The guy who wrote West Side Story? WHAT?
I simply see this as a testament to how incredible Bersteins must all be, when even one I didn't know about can be so acclaimed.

why advertise this?! this makes the game seem short! I WANT TO PRETEND THE GAME IS 400 HOURS LONG
You could pretend that beating it in 2 hours is a godly feat that was only accomplished because of a fluke and years of training.

Crisis averted.

So skyrim can be beat in 2 hours and 16 minutes, and morrowing can be beat in 4 minutes. That means skyrim is 34X as long as morrowind. Confirmed for longest game ever.

...So a playtester made a quick runthrough of a game that's not even out yet?

THIS IS NEWS??!!!

Seriously... I'm as excited about Skyrim as any Bethesda fan... but this is so much publicity overkill that it's ridiculous. You don't have to print every single thing that Bethesda's PR department send out, guys!

Huh. I was all prepared to say "bah, if it can be done, then Skyrim must be another linear mission game that won't last 20 hours".

And then I cross-checked against a game I know the "normal play" length of - http://speedrunwiki.com/Deus_Ex.

So, 33% longer than Deus Ex 1, hmm? not bad.

I would have thought that this kind of accomplishment (like the now-well-known fact that Oblivion can be "beaten" in under 8 minutes) would in and of itself count as a "bug" that needs to be fixed.

Im glad I dont come back to these topics often to read how ignorant everyone is...

SPEEDRUN? MOAR LIEK HOW LONG THE GAME IS!

Also Im not sure how Skyrim and Dark Souls has anything in common...usually when games kill me Im not amused...

S p e e d r u n...meaning he beat the game without looking in every nook and cranny...body...peoples stuff (not yours now is) etc etc...So there could be "The Hand of Howard" the best weapon in the game that looks like Todd Howard's hand and he would never have it because he SPEEDRUN the damn MAIN QUEST

Also means he doesnt have a vast library lodged in a desk or a kickass house for all his cool stuff...

So in exchange for a free pie and a small trophy, this poor guy ruined the entire Skyrim experience by racing through it as fast as humanly possible?

That's horrible. This guy clearly liked the series, or he wouldn't be in the contest, so why in the hell would he make his first playthrough an extreme speed run? Skipping all the dialogue, ignoring the scenery...it's just not worth it for so meager a prize. It cheapens the entire experience for him.

Skyrim Beaten In Just Over Two Hours

One of Bethesda's QA testers has beaten the highly anticipated RPG in an impressive two hours and sixteen minutes.

To a given value of "beaten," of course. Presumably QA tester Sam Bernstein didn't see too much of Skyrim's verdant scenery as he scuttled from quest to quest in a bid to beat development team rep Jeff Browne to the end credits. Bernstein's final time was a lightning-fast 2:16:10 - twenty seconds faster than Browne's effort. The speed run competition was held to celebrate Skyrim's imminent launch and cheats were not allowed. Bernstein, who can be seen basking in the august rays of victory above, received a small trophy for his troubles as well as a pie of his choice, baked by director Todd Howard. Bernstein also won the speed run competition for Fallout 3 back when it launched, finishing the post-apocalyptic RPG with a final completion time of 75 minutes. Not bad.

Of course, regular gamers who haven't been playing Skyrim non-stop for the past year - or designing it for that matter - probably won't get through the game quite that fast. Bethesda has claimed it will take players around 30 hours to beat the game's central quest, not including the time it takes them to father (or mother) a dynasty of lizard children.

You can take your best shot at Bernstein's record when Skyrim launches on November 11th.

Why would a guy who beta tested Skyrim for a year do a speedrun? Beats me.
