Watch:

Skyrim to have Witcher like relationship features.

See what I did there?
So...female nudity?

I'm sure sales would skyrocket if that was included in the game (somehow I doubt that'll happen).

Back on-topic, being able to marry an NPC was a feature in all Fable games, not just the third. I don't really see the problem since it's optional.

Well okay, I do kind of see a problem: are they going to allow you to "tie the knot" with any race? I consider myself to be progressive-minded, but I can't help but be a bit weirded out by the prospect of an Imperial marrying the likes of an Orc or Argonian.

I like the idea of making friends to bring adventuring. Maybe then I can make up a platoon of my own hand-picked soldiers. Lets see you arrest me now Town Guard!

Screw it, I'll set myself up as lord of my own barony.

This seems like it will be a great addition to the game! I mean, after playing Oblivion for 300+ hours hacking and slashing through dungeons, I wanted to do something a little different. So I downloaded the Viconia mod here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36902 . Made my game MUCH more interesting.

Building relationships, making friends, getting married. I'm pretty sure The Sims did it before Fable.

I think I'll actually use this feature if it's done in an immersive and compelling way. And for the love of God, if I get sick of my family and lose my mind, please please please make the kids mortal.
Legal issues stop that in the raw game mods can fix it. Yes it's werid that that line is drawn there I recall times when it wasn't and you can still buy those games here. So i'm unsure who they are pandering to law wise. But that is the issue.

If anyone tries to befriend me in Skyrim they will probably end up dead. I don't like annoying NPCs...

Also I'm not playing the game until a killable children mod is made.

This is the dumbest idea ev- *marries an Argonian*

or

This is the dumbest idea ev- *marries a Kahjiit*

Either way, I'm happy. It's just a random feature added to pad the game and give you more stuff (and people) to do. I'm glad it's an option.

Oh no! A completely optional feature that you don't have to do if you don't want to!

Seriously you guys? If you hate it so much then you don't have to do it so I don't see why you're complaining. Overeactive, much?
I think they are worried that it is diverting resources from the hacking n slashing.

What a completely worthless feature. The time would've been better spent creating more items and zones to explore.
Other than the voice acting involved in making this happen, I don't see that this would share any resources with the level designers or spreadsheet workers necessary to make those things. This is pretty much a simple programming trick.

Yeah, god forbid they try to make the boring-ass characters from Oblivion interesting in some way and who react to how you treat them. What a horrid feature.

/sarcasm

And it's nothing like Fable's relationship system. I read nothing to suggest that you'll have to fart, dance, and pose your way into people's hearts. Instead you'll have to do actual things that would cause them to like you more or less. Which is miles better than Fable 3's system.

Calm down.

I don't see the problem with it. Fable's interaction options with NPCs weren't bad because interacting with NPCs is bad. They were bad because the interactions were shallow, boring, repetitive, meaningless & forced on the player, especially in the third game when you had to deal with each NPC individually. If Bethseda can take the concept & flesh it out with more depth & purpose, then it could vastly increase the immersion & rpg potential of Skyrim.

I'm not really seeing a problem with this at all. I got rather attached to some NPCs in Oblivion and I wanted to take them into dungeons and be friends with them. And now i can! I can also marry someone, which can really add to the immersion. And if you don't like it, you can ignore just as easily.

When I heard about the romance features I decided to play a bosmer instead of a khajiit becuase the latter would make me feel a little wierded out....

The difference between this and Fable is that Bethesda's not pushing this as a main feature.

You guys seem to be the ones who are reacting to it. It was one sentence in a fan interview, it's not a game-changer.

The other big difference between this and Fable is that in the Elder Scrolls, NPC's have more complexity and character than completely generic faces. I can see my character wanting to marry an NPC in the Elder Scrolls a hell of a lot more than an NPC in Fable, simply because the former have more unique personality.

I bet it has autosave as well, just like all the countless other dumbed-down, consolized games out there. This franchise has turned into a cash-cow.

...

P.S. See those highlighted words up there? If I were ruler of the Earth, I would ensure that people who use them would get slapped every time they utter that sort of BS.
How about we take over together? I'd hate to have to kill you off as competition when you have such good ideas.

It's all in the implementation. Bethesda is great at implementing things- Lion Head is shitty at it.

I like this. It will add to the actual role playing elements of this role playing game. Namely, the reason why I play role playing games at all instead of popping in Halo and killing shit all I want to.

Let's fool ourselves into thinking Fable invented this, and that it's Fable-like, while I wonder if I can do the Fallout-like thing, and sell her into slavery cause my Elder Scrolls characters are bastards.

I couldn't care less about the romance thing, but the ability to get people to follow you into dungeons shall surely bring about the lulz.

Comparing it to Fable is just baiting the fanboy responses.

I'm sure it'll be done in a way that doesn't detract from the experience.

Wait, did I here you correctly? you mean to tell me that a game from a series built around immersion is including an immerse experience? And, what's more, not only is this experience totally ignorable, but based off of a popular mechanic from a popular game where it was also completely ignorable?

Oh, for shame! Clearly we now know that Skyrim will be crap.
