For those interested in the full Q&A where the marriage topic was a small bit of the overall discussion.

And really, is this something to get so bent out of shape about? it seems like a completely throwaway feature only there for those truly interested in role playing. It looks like its there for those who want it and can be ignored by those who don't.

Fable 2 had a nice relationship mechanic, because the NPCs actually had likes and dislikes, and would like you more if they enjoyed the expressions you did most often. In Fable 3, however, you could only ever do one thing to everyone, so it was just a matter of which NPC was more attractive.

LMFAO! Nearly fell of my bed xD

OT: Meh, not exactly game changing so it's no biggie, it is a Role-Playing game so the more elements of Role-Play it can include the better i suppose.

This makes me sad... But at least they made up for the promise on the back of the Oblivion case.

SAAAAADNESSSSSS. I would rather better, more unique quests, more fun, less sims. Less Fable, more Morrowind. I don't want Fable in my Elder Scrolls, though maybe some ES in my Fable would be nice.
I doubt it will be anything like Fable. Or Sims, or Endless Online, or Second Life, or Dragon Age, or Mount and Blade, or its squeal, or many other games for that matter. Thier will be no "copying" of any other games formula to get the player hitched, it will be unique to Skyrim and most probably very well done.
Do no mistake simplifying a long post to be ignorant. I doubt it will be the same, and I doubt that it wont be done well, but it isn't what I want to see more of in the Elder Scrolls franchise. I never felt any affinity to anyone in Oblivion, and the closest I got in Morrowind was that Yagrum Bagarn was pretty cool.

I've played a lot of mods, even a few companion ones. One in particular, tried to take a relatively interesting horror mods and make one character that I was supposed to develop an attachment to, and in fact it felt just corny and pointless. It really ruined the conclusion of an otherwise okay mod.

A pretty good analogy is that Skyrim(at least all the other ES games I have played)is an action movie, and this seems like the really bad romance side-plot of an action movie and I really don't want it. It ruins the fun of the thing by shoveling a copious degree of needless shit that probably won't be nearly as good as what the franchise has been known for for ages! I felt no companionship to the companions in Fallout 3 or New Vegas, and I don't want this stupid stuff in my favorite series of all time.

I don't need a romance side-plot in my open world action game. They are much better in games with a very structured plot, a very linear game. Mass Effect did it perfectly in my opinion, Skyrim should leave it be. Unless you are limiting the choices to a select few, and really flesh those out, really make them unique, it's a bad idea. They become useless, generic, and an unfortunate blemish on an otherwise beautiful looking game.

I just think it's a bad idea. They can still do it well. It doesn't have to be as stupid as Fable's to still be badly done though, and fetch quests are nobody's friend, except maybe dogs. I don't want this interfering with what looked like such a great system.

That's my long answer, happy now?

Frankly I was more thrilled about this:

Todd Howard on Skyrim: ''The PC version also gets higher res textures, larger render modes, and a bunch of other effects you can scale up if your machine is a beast.''

*Runs around room in excitement*

Jobs, marriage. Why do people feel the need to play a real life sim ? Is thier life that shit.
Yes it is.. Now quit bitching and go watch this for the twenty thousandth time:

My reaction.

Why would they do that? Fable 3 was the worst in the series yet (4 will probably top it), hopefully they may learn from lionhead's mistakes.

It'll probably be a lot better than Fable's version of the feature, Elder Scrolls NPCs are a lot less generic, so you'll have reason to want to befriend people. I think it's a pretty nice addition. Disagree with me if you want, I just think it'll be good for immersion.

EDIT: And as it's been said, easily ignored for the people that don't want the feature.
EDIT 2: And it can probably be modded out for PC users.

Its not really important and sounds like you could play the game without doing that.

Side affects are but are not limited too
virtual wife abuse
being compared to sims
being bossed around by your wife in 2 realities is stead of one
murder suicide
Constant sex
and a irresistible urge to put a sex mod into your copy of skyrim

I do not see a problem with it. As long as it won't make it mandatory for me to befriend "Badly Charaterized NPC X" in order for him to say "WE ARE FRIENDS NOW. HERE IS THE NEXT PART FOR YOUR QUEST". Or even worse, make me marry a pixel character and pretend there is a meaning relationship hidden beneath all scripts.

That would just be stupid

Good for the roleplayers, ignorable for everyone else.
I don't really see the problem...

My awesome Breton badass can get some tail? Sounds great to me. I trust Bethesda to do this more intelligently and with more point than Molyneaux. After all, RPG does have the word roleplay in it. *shrugs*

Actually - I rather like this idea. I got rather attached to a couple of npc characters in Oblivion and wanted to take the relationship past 100% like and the same tired dialogue choices. Plus, this'll add a bit of extra depth to the npc characters, increasing the immersion factor. I'm all for it.

Correction to your thread title:
Skyrim to have Fable 3-like feature.

I don't see me getting involved with Skyrim romances (Bethesda isn't really one for making characters I get attached to) so this is a nonfactor for me.

I love the fact that everyone is whining about this.

'Itz going to be liked Fablez Ih8te fable11!1"

You do realize that getting marry in a RPG had been around for a very long time? DnD did it.

Also, who the hell will go out of their way to get marry? If yoi don't want to use the feature...DON'T.
