You could have just been nice and said you didn't agree with him.

Too much patronising bullshit on the forums these days.

Companion mod.

honostly, this has been an evolution of things seen in the game already.

Oblivion... no companions. so some one added a companion mod.
Fallout 3... simple companions, limited personalities and interaction. based mostly on your morality.
Fallout: New Vegas... deeper companions with individual personalities.

I was more attached to 'Cass' in New Vegas because of the interaction and diologue we had through out the game. an evolution of this to create an acctual relationship which may result in marriage seems like a normal 'next step' to me.

i doubt it will be like Fable where i can 'heroic Pose' 3-4 times and have some one head over heels for me, or where it would be more of a burden to marry then a blessing. In all honosty, it sounds like a more evolved companion mod where you can recruit a person to follow you and the longer they follow you the closer they grow...

Sounds good in theory, and the roleplayer in me rejoices. I trust Bethesda to implement that better than Lionhead did.

SAAAAADNESSSSSS. I would rather better, more unique quests, more fun, less sims. Less Fable, more Morrowind. I don't want Fable in my Elder Scrolls, though maybe some ES in my Fable would be nice.

I doubt it will be anything like Fable. Or Sims, or Endless Online, or Second Life, or Dragon Age, or Mount and Blade, or its squeal, or many other games for that matter. Thier will be no "copying" of any other games formula to get the player hitched, it will be unique to Skyrim and most probably very well done.

Yeah, I could have, but then I had to level a character in Oblivion.

What's the big deal? This is fine. Not sure on the whole marriage malarkey, but the friendship thing sounds better than something as bland as good karma/bad karma or faction allegiance.

More importantly, it confirms house ownership. Fuck yeah! Now here's hoping you can customise it, or at least display loot appropriately.

I don't really see a problem with new features being added.

In fact, I've liked nearly everything I've heard about Skyrim so far. I'm very excited for it.

However, the major, MAJOR exception is the further reduction of armour slots; merging armour and greaves? What were they thinking? What if I want to have a topless Nord barbarian run around like Conan, but still have him wear trousers?
They're going the same way as with Fallout 3 huh... well, if they still have the extra, mostly unused slots (Body Addon 1-3) then modders will fix it. Unless you're planning to play on a console, that is. But who would want to do that?
Wasn't the merging of the cuirass and greaves done to reduce the amount that needs to be rendered and avoid clipping issues? being able to have more people on the screen and more types of armor is also a +1 for the game.

Plus, how good did your character look when he wasn't wearing chest and leggings of the same set?
Yeah, but they should put in a 'hide cuirass' option the same way you can hide your helmet in some games.

I'm down with this idea. I always thought it was a bit odd that I had a free roaming game, do anything I want, except no one has sex or gets married except in books.

As long as the "relationships" you develop with people don't come down to making fart noises and other such idiotic "exchanges" that pass for human interaction to a group of no-name npcs that might as well be pieces of cheese as characters, I might actually get behind this...

Meh, adding a feature like this should be easy to ignore for those who don't like this kind of thing, cuz I doubt the devs will force a marriage upon you

If do so however then I think many people will be pissed

i like to role-play in role-playing games. call me weird if you wish, i just do. and if i want to role-play as a dragon-hunter trying to cope with the strain of divorce (or added work of marriage if you cant get divorced) then now i motherfucking can.

How are these 'fable 3' like features?

See what I did there?
i think youve hit the problem. its not the relationship features people dont like (in some cases) its that its fable.

This is good, it adds depth without being intrusive. If you want to ignore it, do so and enjoy what will undoubtedly be a fucking amazing game, but I'll at least give it a try.

I always found Oblivion a bit cold and sterile, and after playing Fable 2 I wished Oblivion had some of its warmth and charm. This seems to be an effort to make the world seem friendlier, which is good.

The more features the better I say. If you don't like it, don't use it. Or if you really hate it, vote with yer wallet and don't buy the game.

I don't really get all the crying here.

Fable didn't invent housing and marriage in games, though. It's been possible in D&D for ages.

Joke aside, that in itself doesn't bother me, maybe that means that the whole social interaction bits in Skyrim are less wooden compared to Oblivion.

You're not looking at the big picture. PC gamers should rejoice. If there are wives in the game, and the game is moddable, that means you get to construct your own wife. Every scientists' dream. And something tells me that PC gamers tend to be into science more than console gamers. I'm gonna make me a Jessica Biel wife.

As much as I detest Fable 2 and 3, I'm remaining optimistic about this. Hopefully they can pull it off well to a point where it's interesting and has an actual use. If it doesn't then I just hope that it can be safely ignored.

I think there's just a bit of over reaction when it comes to this topic. I doubt it will play a key role in the game, and seems more of a love it or leave it aspect.

As long as they take it a bit more seriously than fable did, I don't think it will be a bad feature to have.

Also, I don't think it's fair to basically say it's using an idea from fable. I mean, marriage is a real thing, and I assume the characters in TES universe have been marrying for years. Just because fable used the feature in their game recently, doesn't make it their feature. I mean...harvest moon had marriages (though, they were pretty big features in the game). Let me know if there is some deranged female mayor with dark secrets; though, then I guess we can consider differently (off topic slightly: Wouldn't it have been cool if Fable really had the marriage concepts added announced originally?)

Overall, I say it'll be ok, and easy to ignore.

seems pointless but.... complaining about extra features seems even more pointless. and who knows, maybe they will implement this in a way that is actually useful.... (i doubt it though)
There are in-game tax benefits.

Interactions with NPC's could absolutely be more meaningful. Marriage has been quite a successful institution, to the point where alot of people have heard of it, it makes sense that it would find its way into RPG's.

It's not real-life-simulation exactly, that's a pretty cynical way to look at it. It's there to flesh out the world a bit more, so you feel less like all the NPC's are 2-dimensional and only there to have a problem you can fix for them.

The possibilities are endless :D
