Eh, I learnt to never get to hyped about Bethesda games since they kinda suck at the whole AI deal that tends to break immersion over the knee.
And story, and dialogue, and largely animations, and world/dungeon/quest design, and game system design (how horribly broken Oblivion got if you picked two "wrong" skills...)

I'm not sure why they are being regarded that "highly" either, it's probably because Morrowind/Oblivion were the "premier" WRPGs on consoles and they only had to measure up against the likes of Fable and Two Worlds instead of the Baldur's Gate Trilogy, Fallout Series, Planescape: Torment, Vampire: Bloodlines, the Gothic series, The Witcher, Ultima series and all the Fantasy-setting MMOs out there (AoC, DAOC, LOTRO to mention but a few) etc.
Actually, Morrowind had some pretty nice lore and somewhat unique culture being portrayed in a mainstream western fantasy game for the 2000's. But whatever originality they had kinda disappeared around Oblivion.

I also think they have gained a lot of favour because Fallout 3 as well that is a pretty good sandbox game. But what gave Morrowind all that extra fame all those years ago was how easy it was to mod and that you could pretty much add anything you wanted to it.

But their RPG's are becoming more like run of the mill action games rather then trying to retain their own identity and gameplay. So I don't see myself getting all excited about Bethesdas future releases if Skyrim will turn out the way I expect it to.

I'd just like to see better and more fluid combat as that was very stiff.

As to people being negative about it, well, if nobody was negative nothing would get improved. Negative feedback is much more important than positive btw.

I don't care. I thought Oblivion looked fantastic, and I still don't mind Morrowind graphics. All they have to do is nail the gameplay. Which I think they did. It looks fantastic. Anyway, it will look better on PC.

Lol maybe the AI can be fixed but grahpic wise it is just stupid to ask for more. We all know that Skyrim is going to have a gigantic world. The only reason the best graphic games have the best graphics is because the world is smaller so it won't destroy the computer/console trying to play it. I personally wouldn't like to sit there watching my pc/xbox load every 2 seconds.

Same "issues" were part of Oblivion.
I enjoyed the fuck out of Oblivion

Ergo, I can't see why this suddenly would be more of a problem then it was before.

I've said this before a while ago for Skyrim, but the same stuff keep popping up so here I go

Where's the wood? All I can see are these damn trees!!

Sure, the AI maybe sucks, but we judge games on more than one thing don't we? I want to see a few improvements over Oblivion: Mainly nicer-looking NPCs and better story. number 1 has been delivered, lets wait for number 2.

The game's 3 months away, this is probably footage from a late alpha or early beta build. So relax, and reserve your judgement for when the full game comes out.

I agree somewhat. The enemies just don't react to things like they should. If they at least staggered a bit rather than just opening a bag of red dye and ignoring you, it would look better.

However, I've pre-ordered it, and it still looks like a fantastic game.

I don't really care. I have always liked the Elder Scrolls games and I am sure I will enjoy this too. Also you should probably take note that some of these issues might change before the game is released and if you are really that worried just wait for a few weeks and the modding community will have sorted it all out.

You could say exactly the same thing with Fallout NV but we still saw and had some major bugs and still some bad gameplay now didn't we?

I think you're just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking. Here's what I want you to do. You go and find me a game as big as Skyrim that is completely bug free with perfect AI, you go do that for me and I will gladly call out bethesda on this.

Also considering this is just the demo shown at E3 Bethesda have had plenty of time to smooth out the AI since then, so I don't think I have anything to worry about. Even if the AI is still not that great, I don't play the Elder Scrolls games for the AI, if I can love Morrowind as much as I do (and look at the AI on that) I think I'll be just fine with Skyrim.

And seeing a lot of the posts in this thread, it makes me laugh at how many people don't realise how old this footage of the game is.

Obsidian made Fallout Vegas not Bethesda. :/ So no we can't say exactly the same thing.

These are some of the pettiest complaints I've ever heard.

He smashes through, then stands still for two seconds, also perplexed by the wall in front of him, perhaps the AI is so smart that it is amazed by the visuals you say? I think not.
He just came back from the dead and popped out of his coffin. Maybe he needs a second or two to wake up...

Not only does this skeletal chap have a stupid AI system working against his favour, but he also appears to be some kind of ghost or spirit, the player slashes and stabs with his blade and the guy doesn't seem to move or react at all to this.
Uh, he's an undead zombie. I doubt pain is a big deterrent for him.

not rotating, not flipping, not even cursing the dragon as he is pulled by the unrealistic gravity of the oh so wonderful Bethesda's Creation engine, another enemy lost in the midst of Bethesda's bugs.
He does rotate and flip... the angle the dragon chucks him at is just not very condusive to extensive ragdolling. I saw an hour long demo at Gamescom - trust me, there are ragdoll physics.

The game looks great in terms of gameplay but I think the graphics are a little ugly (possibly due to early build or console its running on) And I would really hope for a nicer looking new UI

Point taken, TS, now...

Point me to the nearest immersive, open-world, first-person fantasy adventure game that does all this RIGHT and I'll gladly call Bethesda out on these issues.

I was going to say Borderlands until I saw you typed fantasy. However, the point still stands, that in my opinion Borderlands is awesome and I would much prefer to play it than any Fallout or Elder Scrolls game.

ehh I wish I could get excited, anyway I feel this is a bit nitpicky, though it does make me wonder what could have been if they plished things up a bit (NV though I know that wastn beshdesa)

speaking of which Im thinking of getting NV for PS3 (patch...definetly) and replaying just for the DLC....but there are parts of that game Ive felt like i played over...and over...and over..and over...the very Idea drives me insane..that game is HUGE
