Probably because people who have Skyrim are playing Skyrim, people who have Zelda just want the world to know how good it is.
No, people who like Skyrim were too busy posting about how they took an arrow to the knee.

All this contest proves is that, among users of G4.com, there are more Zelda fans than Elder Scrolls fans. This poll isn't indicative of any trend beyond the group at g4tv.com

In terms of raw sales, Skyrim has outsold Skyward Sword thus far (granted, it has been out longer) but I wouldn't be surprised if SS outstrips it come the holidays.

Still, this poll only proves that G4 users enjoyed Skyward Sword more than Skyrim by about 2%

Honestly, I don't really care, about G4 or that compitition. I don't need a compitition to tell me what the Game of the Year is because for me it's Skyrim. Also I was reading the comments on that earlier and it seemed, going from the comments, that fans of both games were making multiple accounts and vote bombing, so it wasn't exactly a legitimate compitition.

Also considering that the Game of the Year is entirely subjective I always find competitions like this pointless.

I don't see why I should care about who wins some G4 contest. G4 sucks, and they would still suck even if they agreed with me about Skyrim.

Considering this is the same poll where Gears of War 3 beat both Deus Ex and Dark Souls, I'm taking any and all results from them with a grain of salt. Still, good for skyward sword. I've only played a bit, and it's not bad. I personally like Skyrim more, but hey, tomato, potato.

I think the bad Skyrim PS3 lag (now affecting 360's too) hurt Skyrim a bit. Shame; the game is great, but it fireballs itself in the foot with its technical problems.

Zelda, though? Pure bliss. Gaming at its core. Though, geez, Fi, shut up and stop stating the obvious. I know how to climb a stupid ladder.

I voted for Skyrim and it lost... boo hoo?

It keeps me from voting between Assassins Creed and Skyrim, which would've been a far more difficult decision for me then Skyward Sword. While I would've been very happy if Skyrim won, it doesn't really make a difference since I'll never play skyward sword anyway.

Who cares really? Why should I care? Who should anyone care?
Nail meets head.

Skyward sword is my favourite game this year, but I care of this not one jot. Popularity contests mean nothing.

I used to fly through Skyloft on my glorious winged mount, then I took an arrow to the knee.

I like both games; I really don't see why people feel the need to argue over which is better = \

I've sunk more hours into skyrim so far (mostly because I got it a week earlier and Ive been too busy with exams coming up to play zelda), but Skyward Sword seems like a pretty fun game so far.

Well, I don't really care.
But I still post.

Because I think that a game that has to be valid as Game of the year has to run on a majority of the systems. Not just WII or PS3 exclusive. If a game can't bother to be ported to the other systems it's not worth being named game of the year.
You might call it PC Game of the year or Wii Game of the year but anything else is just ridiculously senseless in my opinion. Feel free to disagree but that's my personal prequisite.

So what you're saying is, no Nintendo game should ever get game of the year, regardless of critical reception or popularity? = \

Would this standard have counted back in the day when almost all games were exclusives?

What? Some internet poll says Skyward Sword is better than Skyrim or something like that?

The only thing sad about this is the fact that people still watch G4. The network is such a joke.

OT: Skyward Sword felt too "samey" for lack of a better work. It just has the mentality that I've already done that several times. Still haven't finished because I get bored so quickly when playing it. Skyrim on the other hand has me hooked, haven't been so into a game since Mass Effect 2.

Well yes, exactly.

It can be "Nintendo's Game of the year" but not the game of the year.

Or we stop all this commerical bullsh*t and start making only plattform relevant awards. Because if I never going to experience Skyward Sword (because the Wii just isn't my type of console) I can never support Skyward Sword as "best" Game of the year.

I love how if you look at the comments in the final vote all the Skyrim fans are crying bloody murder because Skyward Sword beat it. Some things you'll see: calling all people who voted for Zelda "little girls and gay faggots", encouraging everyone who likes Skyrim to vote for Assassin's Creed just so Skyward Sword doesn't win, claiming that Skyward Sword only one because everyone who voted made 6-7 different accounts just to vote, saying "If they see anyone playing that shit Zelda game then I'm gonna go Dark Brotherhood on their ass", and various other vulgar things.

Yep, I'd say that the game rated mature definitely has the more mature fan-base of the two on G4...

OT: Skyward Sword is not only my GotY, but my new favorite game of all time, so it pleases me greatly to see it in the finals at least. I don't care whatsoever for G4, but I'm glad that Skyward Sword is at least getting some recognition it deserves instead of being completely bulldozed over by everyone obsessing over Skyrim.

The results are in, Skyward Sword has beaten Skyrim. And speaking as someone who has not bought a Wii game in a year since getting an xbox 360, I have one thing to say. "Good job." Rattle on about how unoriginal Nintendo is, but in reality Skyrim is part of a long running series too, and if more people liked Skyward Sword instead of Skyrim, then they won fair and square. It was close anyway, 51% to 49%. Well played Nintendo, I may have left you but I can see that you presence over the decades has not faltered. Let's see if you can take it all the way, Assassin's creed is all that stands between them and the title of Game of the Year.

P.S. Skyrim has a bunch of problems anyway, it's fun VERY fun, but far from perfection. Don't get me wrong though I still give it a double thumbs up.
I would completely agree with this....

If Skyward Sword's controls weren't utter ass. The motion control is garbage and uncomfortable, and not nearly as precise as it should be. I can see what they were going for, and it's an admirable attempt, but it still falls short.

Fair enough.
I've never cared so much about game awards either way = \

as far as the wii system goes, Ill admit Im a little disappointed in it overall but there are a few really good games that might make it worth it's current price.

I personally disagree. There has rarely been a moment in which the controls didn't exactly do what I wanted it to. Aside from the occasional centering, it worked very well. Sure it wasn't always perfect, but I have not yet played a single WM+ game that did motion controls as well as Skyward Sword.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Skyward Sword fanboy. It's not nearly one of my most favorite Zelda games and it probably isn't even my GotY. I also believe it to have its fair share of flaws (such as ridiculously low difficulty, extremely linear and its repetitiveness and lack of originality), but its problem isn't its controls IMO...

OT: Don't really care. Good for them. Both of them have their fair share of annoying fanboys and both games have their fair share of flaws, so I'm not going to attack one side or the other.

Skyrim versus Skyward Sword, that's fair, it seems. Different community, different results. Revelations beating Saints row, and[/i] Dead Space 2 beating Infamous 2? I call mistrial. Gears of War over Deus Ex? Ha! Not freakin' likely.
