Used to like them, had all their albums, even had (still have actually) A vinyl of some of their Pre-mainstream work (prior to the release of the album "Slipknot"). But over the years I lost interest... they just didn't appeal to me or resonate with me in any way.

I think my love for them was relative to how frustrated I was as a Teen (angst and all that malarky), but I can't stand them any more. They are like nails on chalk boards. Same goes for Korn, disturbed and so on... I had pretty predictable tastes.

I remember my interest in all these bands just plummeted after listening to DragonForce, and completely vanished when a friend let me listen to some Black Label Society. Still listen to them now, plus a whole mess of other bands I wouldn't have considered 5 or 6 years ago.

The band itself is just... so... average that I find them almost painful to listen to. Also, I really, really do not like most of their fans....

Slipknot: A band angsty teenagers and pre-teens listen to and act like they are the most br00tal band on earth and the greatest musical endeavor ever to grace our ears. I'm so tired of hearing about them. At the risk of starting some pointless flame war i'll stop there.

If you hadn't noticed i strongly dislike them.....

Edit: Alright i'm off the rage train to say that Corey Taylor does actually have a nice voice in Stone Sour, honestly, he should stick to that and not metal, and, like many people here, i listening to slipknot a lot when i was younger but even then i knew their stuff was utter crap but they had good rhythm and, why not?

Other then this song and maybe a few others, meh. There are far better, more innovative metal bands out there. I have to admit I haven't explored their discography yet. I listened to most of Vol. 3, and I didn't really like it.

What I probably don't like the most about them, is the fact that they have 9 members, and they hardly do anything with them. They have a guy playing custom percussion, but it's so sparse and low in the mix, they have a guy playing turntables and samples, but you hardly hear those either, and I think another person or two doing other things besides the core guitar/bass/drums/vocals of the band. Why not use it more? It could make their sound much more exciting and original. Countless bands out there play metal, but there's less that have a second percussionist that could add another layer and more intensity to the music, or a guy with turntables and samples.

Slipknot=lol

But seriously, I just hate the Nu-metal genre of music. And before the whole "music is all opinion" bullshit argument gets thrown at me, let me make it clear that Nu-metal sucks. It capitalizes on the simplest elements of metal, hard rock, and grunge and is purely for marketability. It's accessible for masses, and is composed at an extremely simple level. I used to be a huge fan of Slipknot (I never succumbed to being a dipshit and calling myself a "maggot") but once I got into better music, I discovered they were incredibly bland and predicatble. Yes, they have a few good songs but so does every band.

To give one shred of credibility to Slipknot, they are a great gateway band. Like I said, once I got into good music I stopped listening to them, but they did help me get into the wonderful genre of metal, so at least they have that on their side. Also Corey Taylor can fuck himself.

P.S. RIP Paul, you were the only good member of the band.

What is precisely wrong with Slipknot in comparison to Cynic, or whatever, yeah Cynic is much more complicated but I'm gonna go ahead and say Slipknot's music is gonna work more with dynamics as popular music often does. Just because Cynic or whatever bands you like are better in some areas doesn't mean they are indisputably better.

Having said that, I don't even like Slipknot, so I'm not entirely sure why I'm arguing against you, I guess I just don't particularly like musical snobbery.
Cynic is just more complicated?

It kind of annoys me when people brush off really talented bands as 'just complicated or technical,' when that's hardly the. That's not all there is too it, they work with dynamics and other musical ideas arguably more then Slipknot.

Sure, music is subjective and everything, but Cynic is a very innovative and talented band, much more so then Slipknot in my opinion.

Personally I though Subliminal Verses was their best album, although I like all of them. But they tried some new stuff on Subliminal Verses, and succeeded for the most part.

Slipknot is an example of true musical genious and anyone who says otherwise deserve to be slapped upside the head :)
Snuff, Vermillion, Psychosocial and Duality are among some of their best <3
You're kidding, right? Please, please be kidding.

Absolutely awful in my opinion. The epitome of stylised metal pandering to the teenage try-hard metalhead demographic.

Not that everyone who listens to them is a try-hard metalhead, simply that in my opinion they never have seemed genuine, instead seeming to just try and slot into that crowd to make a buck, besides this they seem to me to be rather musically poor.

I will say that it's not like I view it as a crime to like slipknot, if you like the music you like the music, but respect and liking the band are not the same thing, I personally both dislike the band and don't respect them, as for me personally they fail both on a music level and an artistic integrity level.
Summed up my opinion pretty well. Another thing I would like to add is Joey Jordison. I get so pissed off when people tell me he is the fastest and best drummer in the world because it's in the Guinness book of records. Sure, he is a pretty damn good drummer, but not even close to being the best. Or the fastest.

Honestly wouldn't say they're "musical geniuses" but I do like them a lot.

I've seen them twice and have all their albums, so that says something, but "musical geniuses?"

No.

Ok then, please explain to me what you consider musical genious?
Lady GaGa? JLS? Lil Wayne? What?
How about you stop assuming that we all think Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne are musical geniuses. Slipknot is a good band, and I wouldn't mind listening to them or even going to one of their concerts. But musical geniuses they are not. In my opinion, the geniuses in the rock/metal side of music would be Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon, Tool, Dream Theater, System of a Down, just to name a few.
