It kind of feels like Sakurai was like, I made this amazing game but the same way I suffered to make this game you will have to suffer to unlock the characters. Also was this to spite the competitive community because they asked for a tournament edition with all of characters unlocked.

If you equate actually playing a game to suffering,then you need a new hobby.

I don't have Smash Ultimate. Not my bag. So I have no stake in this, but I'm curious about something.

Is there some kind of DLC or such you can buy to unlock all characters in one go?

If yes, I think that's probably why most of the roster is locked.

No, characters that are locked at the moment are only unlocked ( for free) through playing the game. You cannot unlock them with money. Which make it completely ridiculous that people are complaining about this.

Especially when you compare it to any other fighting game since Street fighter 4.

Usually that would be warranted. But not in this case. It's not extra grindy,it's not paid DLC. It's simply characters being unlocked through playing the game.

The mods are biased, most posters have their head so far up their asses it's unbelievable. These forums have become a mere shadow of it's former self. Using buzzwords and twisted logic to win asinine internet arguments.

But if Yoshi wants to plead innocence and blame everyone else for the public opinion and reputation he helped craft, don't be surprised when people chime in and tell him why they think of him the way they do. That was a fantastic game! I really liked the little story it had. It was kind of bleak really. In the opening, Master Hand brings all the characters to life. Then after fighting through all the opponents and becoming the best you take on your creator. After defeating Master Hand there's an uncomfortable silence, some pretty unsettling music, and then you turn back into a lifeless doll. It's a story of hubris and rampant determination ultimately ending in your own demise, though I'm not actually entirely sure if that's the meaning I was supposed to be getting.

Ok. Can we take a step back and realize that differing opinions on the rate at which a roster should be unlocked is NOT worth getting this worked up over?

Sure, locking 63 out of 71 characters in a fighting game is a little too much. Feels like lately Nintendo has this hard-on for keeping content at arm's length. Like only enabling a couple of maps in Splatoon at a time, or selling Hard Mode separately (ie. BotW).
