Rent it; In the second half there's a MAJOR wall in difficulty...

Fight one hunter? Hell no, fight fifty.
Travel to one military base? Hell no, the one across the map! Twice!
Destroy one hive while defending a tank? Hell no, destroy four while defending the tank from fifty hunters every time!
*snip*
Also cheapest bosses ever.
Exactly my sentiments.

However that's not all, get used to:
"WE NEED AN AIRSTRIKE!"
"WE'RE GETTING DESTROYED CALL IN AN AIRSTRIKE!"
"HOLY SHIT WE NEED AND AIRSTRIKE!"
"OH CHRIST! MY NOSE ITCHES! CALL IN AN AIRSTRIKE!"

Then get reamed by 2+ tanks, shitloads of soldiers, 2+ Helicopters, and whatever amount of mutants that just so happened to be there.

Hmm well if I buy Prototype then I'll officially be on a Sandbox streak.

First Saints 2 with its GTA-killer style game design and it's Yahtzee-Grade gameplay. By far the best story missions, even though it was a bit easy, but I'm not complaing.

Then it was Red Faction: Guerrilla, (made by the same people who made Saints 2) with waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many side missions, and not enough story missions becasue of this, but with enough of Saints 2's good game design to make it just as fun and with GeoMod 2.0, the sky was the limit when it came to destructive fun.

So, in summary I may as well get Prototype, to see the city evolve before my eyes and to unleash awesome weapons from within Mercer's body, (kind of G-Virus style [watch Resident Evil Degeneration and you'll understand])but it's good he still looks human most of the time, and the story seems very interesting. I just hope the difficulty curb doesn't kill me, but as long as there's regenerating health, I'll be ok.

And it's kinda wierd how I can't find Prototype on Xbox Live. It's been a bit odd since the update.

Nooooooooooooooo, or at least not yet
Because it is a 1 player game the prices of it will drop faster than... something fast.
If you can wait a while the price will probably have halfed.
Heh, that's my plan too.
I have it, and this is my advice, wait for a bit. It's really good, but I feel as though it's not quite worth the full price.

If you like games like Assassins Creed and Crackdown you should get it, the running around a city that is slowly tearing it's self apart is pretty fun, and so is the combat especially the already mentioned helicopter karate kick. The Story is stupid and so is Alex Mercer the protgonist but if you can get through the story then you can run around running up buildings and killing various people in even more various ways.

If you enjoy replayability and fun rather than strategy and story, I would suggest the game. As for the difficulty curve, it will get a bit over the top. Although if you truly enjoy a game because its fun, you would adjust and adapt towards the game's premise, no matter how cheap it becomes. IMO, if a game tends to become cheap, it gets more satisfying to kill such cheap enemies rather than get annoyed. Maybe its just me.

As for the price, its a single player game without any future DLCs or patches. It will lower its prices sooner or later. Wait for it cause this game doesn't deserve the full price.

I also am waiting for it to lower its prices. The only risk is if it would still be available in my game store's shelves, along with InFamous, by the time I think the prices wouldn't get much lower.

It's a hire, not a buy.
Over here in Aussie I don't think many people rent games. My local video store only rents old PS2 games.
I live in melbourne, and I've not walked into a video ezy or blockbuster that didn't have game rentals in over 10 years. However I don't know of anywhere that rents computer games (they only deal with consoles).

I'm also on the fence about it too.

Looks very alike to Ultimate Spider-Man. Though, I loved that game so maybe. The only issue I'm going over right now is wether it will get boring quick.
It is similar to Hulk Ultimate Destruction (the old PS2/xbox game not the new movie cash in crapfest).

I've heard that inFamous is better, at least story wise, but I don't have a PS3 so...

Anyway, I'm certainly getting it if I can. I'm a big fan of Spiderman 2 and Hulk ultimate destruction, and this just looks like more of the same without a recognizable hero.
Too bad. Infamous it a little better overall but a completely different game. Not worth comparing the way people have been.

If you liked Hulk UD, you should probably try this one out. You may want to rent it on account of it being kind of short but it's the kind of game that gives you that god-like joy of destroying everything. This was actually made by the same guys who made Hulk UD.

That's what I heard. Hulk UD was great fun, so hopefully this should be too.

As long as your not looking for a strong story, and can enjoy just running down slaughtering your enemies (and innocent people) then prototype is a good time.

Yes.

If you're looking for a game with depth, avoid this thing like the plague.
Is that story based depth or gameplay based depth? It has both... in fact, many of my friends have discriped the feeling of "confused" due to the amount of story and attack combos.

So, forgive me if I'm not impressed by another third-person game full of parkour and mystical powers in a sandbox which isn't really that much to talk about.
Are there really that many sandbox games with parkour and mystical powers? I can't think of any others, except maybe inFAMOUS.
